It's always good to revisit processing multi-band OSC narrowband images taken with filters like the L-eXtreme, as they provide such a low bar to narrowband imaging! Let's do this in this video!

Cuiv, it is really wonderful to have you back! Was this image shot with the Sharpstar 61? I am just now setting up my Sharpstar 61. Clear weather has not been my friend for quite some time. Have you ever done anything to get better DEC balance with the scope? With the standard small dovetail, I think that the big weight imbalance is a bit much for my AVX mount. I ordered a 9" dovetail that I am going to try to mount on top of the stock dovetail to raise the scope for the focuser to clear the mount saddle. Great image and really interesting take on processing. I have learned so much about PI processing and equipment from your videos (I also have the Sharpstar 61 and the ASI533). I'm looking to get my first astro camera and had been considering the 533MC over the last six months (Didn't have the funds at the time) but from what I can see there are newer cameras in line with the 533. Like the 294MC. If you had the budget for a 533 plus a couple hundred more what camera would you get? Where I live the 533MC pro costs 900 but the 294MC pro costs 980, it's only 80 more than the 533MC pro, it's not that much more. Opinion?

This is great- I can say that I do not get results like that with the L-eNhance and the L-eXtreme doesn't work well on f/2 optics. I will experiment with this technique a bit and see if I can get that nice color you're seeing.
@derekderek2570
@derekderek2570 2 жыл бұрын
I do feel like the LeXtreme wasn't advertised in a way where it was explained that it's basically useless to faster scopes. at f/2 you're getting less than 10% of the light... even at f/5 is drops dramatically under 50%...really anything after than f/8 you're losing a substantial amount of data with the LeXtreme. The L-eNhance is better by about one or two F stops but then you're having to deal with those flairs on bright stars and those 'less than excellent' bands that you get on the LeXtreme. It's always a give and take in AP (Unless you drop $1000 a filter on some Chroma's)

@CuivTheLazyGeek
@CuivTheLazyGeek 2 жыл бұрын
On thing to keep in mind though is that these transmission figures affects light hitting the outside of the telescope objective, but light rays coming near the center are unaffected. Effectively you are reducing your aperture, but it's not as dramatic as losing 90% of the light all around.
@derekderek2570
@derekderek2570 2 жыл бұрын
@@CuivTheLazyGeek interesting...I actually had a gut feeling that might have been the case but have been too lazy to go into research mode. Does that mean if your target sits nicely centered it won't have such a large effect on lost data?
@CuivTheLazyGeek
@CuivTheLazyGeek 2 жыл бұрын
@@derekderek2570 No, the light rays are parallel when they hit the objective lens - so it's not about where the target is in the field of view at all, e.g it doesn't cause vignetting. It really literally means that light rays that hit the outside of the objective will be transmitted less than light rays that hit the center. Effectively you're applying a mask to your telescope, and that mask gradually let's in more light at we get closer to center.
