He did not beat Pernell Whitaker. It was a robbery. Sweet P was the champ. Oscar did not take it to the champ. Now that Shane Mosley fight, Oscar got robbed. But the Las Vegas bets were so lopsided. Oscar had to lose some how.

In the long term, boxing judges have hurt the sport.
@muntee335 жыл бұрын
joseph slemp The whole organisational structure of the sport hurts the sport. The promotors need to be relegated to just being promoters and the influential dominance needs to be given to Not For Profit sporting organisations. Like a central board to the different commissions, associations and other international boxing organisations. Promoters being able to control the lions share of the financial side of things is terminal to the sport being purely a sport. But like democratic parties having major financial backers that allow them to even gain power in the first place, who do you think the party will serve? The voter or the financier? Well in boxing, the fan is the voter, the promoters are the democratic parties and the sponsors are the financial ‘donators’ or backers. The judges are basically the parties parliamentary representatives, again, you think the bills they pass are purely in the interest of the voter, or taxpayer? Or more so for the financial backer of the democratic party they are part of???? Oscar understands this better than most which is why he has sold out of the sports ideals in pursuit of addressing his own financial interests. A true germ of the modern day sport. Cant stand him.
@ceylonmooney4 жыл бұрын
moreso the folks who pay for that bullshit
@havrisen66204 жыл бұрын
@ismee Very well stated. I never could stand Oscar. He was a privelaged kid in the boxing community from the time he was in diapers so to speak. I lost all respect for him when he disrespected an old Julio Cesar Chavez. A man who earned everything he achieved the hard way, the true way, the old way. When Oscar got old and Pacman gave him a beating he gave Oscar the respect Oscar never gave Julio. Oscar also once ignorantly said “Blacks can’t take it to the body.”. How satisfying it was for me then when Hopkins stopped Oscar with a single shot to the body and dropped him like a coin sack. Oscar has never had any class and has always been overrated. He came up beating a bunch of old men and managed to lose to every top fighter in his era. I will atleast give him credit where it’s due in that he fought all the dangerous opponents. He never cowered away like Mayweather and many others. I give him that.

Trinidad had already busted Vargas up badly that to me ended el feroz even though he still stuck around another 5or6yrs..he ballooned in weight n was a star that burnt twice as bright but burnt out twice as quickly.. When Oscar beat him it was a close fight til de la Hoya got him outta there, Tito barring afew rounds controlled the fight n that's when Vargas was at his best beating quartey more decisively than Oscar, Vargas was 21? when he won his first title in 98 n was basically finished by by 06..the 2nd fight v Mosley he was terrible totally shot.. shouldve been retired after Oscar..

True story Rummy, in 2004 Oscar called my father's escort agency in Las Vegas right before the Felix Sturm fight. He was looking for some girls to party with and my woman at the time was asked for it and she partied with Oscar. When she was done with work she called Oscar and I talked to him for a few minutes and wished him luck in the fight it was probably 10 days away. Oscar talked to me like a normal human being even though it was very awkward. I told him I was a big fan and watched all of his fights and always rooted for him. Everyone talks bad about Oscar now but I wish the fighters around today were like Oscar. He fought everyone he possibly could and he fought them in their prime who else can you say does that nowadays? Oscar was a true gentleman to me and no matter what I'm going to be a fan. Love your videos! I often think when I watch Oscar fight imagine if he was 100% dedicated? You never know how great he could have been and he was great but he could have been unbelievable.

One thing I respect about Oscar, is he's pretty honest if he thought he won or lost a fight. He was almost acting like he lost against Strum, and admitted Sugar Shane won their first fight. He got robbed against Sugar Shane the second fight and beat Trinidad, though he should have put the peddle to the metal against Trinidad and sought to finish strong. He didn't seem to have the same stamina after the Quartey fight. If he got the nod against Trinidad, his career wouldn't have been as enigmatic. Still a great fighter. He was sort like Evander Holyfield. He fought basically EVERYONE in his prime and fought them in THEIR primes. I put him just a notch below Sugar Ray Leanord, but still a great fighter.

Gotta disagree with sweet pea being at or near his peak..in his previous fight sweet pea had to come from behind to ko diosbelys hurtado a heroic comeback for sure, but the de la Hoya fight was signed n sealed yet Whitaker still had to pull it out the bag, also sweet pea never had another win of note, a 93 Whitaker was the p4p master who 'beat' Chavez, so Oscar fought a Whitaker at 75% of his best. Props to both because I have Oscar as a great fighter but sweet pea all time great... Still a great piece as Im new to rummys corner I'll certainly be subscribing n checking out your previous Vids.. PS sweet pea had 2 tough fights v Wilfred Riviera b4 hurtado so he was imo on the slide 2yrs b4 Oscar.. Still all opinion eh.. We know wherever he is now he's schooling someone on how to hit n not get hit, him n Vernon Forrest having a great time with Henry Armstrong and all the other greats that have passed

To be fair, he never said that Whitaker was at or near his peak when he fought Oscar. What he said was, at the time, Whitaker was near or at the top of everybody's pound-for-pound rankings. But I agree, Whitaker's prime/peak was prolly '89, when he won F.O.Y. This fight was 8 years later, he was 33 years old, and in the twilight of his career.

Rick's Giggle I just watched it from all angles. Id call it a knock down because the punch knocked him of balance. He couldnt pull his foot back because the punch stunned him.

It's pretty funny how salty Oscar is about Mayweather x McGreggor, especially when you consider he pushed for McGreggor x Canelo

5:17 you can see Oscar’s foot is dragged out. Shouldn’t have been a knockdown

I agree, but his glove touched the ground after a punch. Regardless if it was a shot that actually hurt him or not, it should be counted as a knockdown.

The Sturm fight was robbery in front of your eyes. Of these fights besides Sturm that really pissed me off was the Whitaker fight I’m not saying this because Whitaker just passed away (RIP) in champ. It’s because Delahoya looked really bad in that fight. He was confused he looked amateurish. He couldn’t handle Whitaker plain and simple. His corner was confused and Delahoya NEVER dominated Whitaker at all in that fight. Whitaker deserved to keep his title. In the post fight interview in the ring Delahoya said he’d give Whitaker a rematch. I’m sure his management team told him in privacy to shut up and keep the title and RUN.

The Trinidad fight was reminiscent to me as the fight between Thurman and Danny. It's not mostly that Danny strong armed the round from Thurman, but Thurman took his foot off the gas and moved more giving Danny chances to push the action. I felt the same was between Trinidad and Oscar

Very good video of one of my favorite fighters of all time ODLH. He might've lost those fights but he always dared to be great. He is definitely one of the best fighters of all time. He always had heart.

I saw the Whitaker fight slowing the video whenever there was action, and I do think Oscar won the fight (won rds 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, and 12). You notice that there are a lot less punches landed by both fighters then what compubox, or the commentators, said. Example in rd 2, at 2:05, DLH gets credited with a right to the body. But the punch landed on Whitaker's forearm. 2 seconds later, Whitaker gets credited with a left hand, but the punch landed on DLH bicep. The rounds that I gave Oscar was because he landed at least one more shot then Sweet Pee, or they landed the same amount of punches, but DLH landed the power shots. Like in rd 7. DLH landed right hands. Whitaker only landed jabs. To me it was very impressive that Oscar was able to win a chess fight against a prime version of Sweet Pee. Pernell was able to turn back the clock. He was moving way better than in his previous 3 fights. He was like Oscar. They needed a great fighter in front of them to train hard and look their best.
