This short captures anger and resentment against a family member so well. Her thinking back, wishing she had swerved the car, but then thinking far enough to realize how horrible the consequence could have been, and how she would have missed her sister, very realistic and oddly relatable.

The car had an accident because the tire burst, which was not under her control, so this really happened. I interpret that scene as: She wished that her sister would die, then they had an accident and she nearly did die but she saved the life of her sister (in real life maybe reanimated her) because she didn't really want her to die.

The fact that short came out only 30 years after the invention of television and the fact the two sisters were seen watching T.V as children implies their dates of birth to be in the late 1940s. Meaning that at release the scenes showing the elderly sisters would take place into the far future around our current time today.

I think an interesting detail is that the sister who 'stole' the other's man didn't end up marrying him. If you look at the picture, the man she's hugging is completely different, which meant she broke it off with the previous boyfriend at some point. If she'd died, she never would've gotten to meet this man and experience that joy of being with him and having children with him, and it all would've been for a man she didn't plan on staying her whole life with anyway.

Getting divorced. Problems with children. There was a time when she was had money and I lived in my car. Later, I had money, and she had nowhere to go but to me. The long, difficult deaths of both of our parents, one at a time. All of my "friends" come and go, but we are friends forever. This makes me tear up.

I'm wondering. Was there another release of this short? Growing up seeing this in the 80's I remember it Entirely Different. I don't remember it being in Color and there was a scene when the sister with the glasses falls in love and her sister takes her man. On the latter, I remember it ending on her face with tears streaming down and then it goes back to her being old and her sister just comforted her. No car accident or her saving her sisters life. I remember the animation not being so fluid either, it was a bit choppy and missing frames. It may have been a ruff cut I'm guessing, but still. The biggest difference (In remembering) was the Nude scene. I remember it because my mother was concerned by it but my dad just chalked it up as 'It was only a cartoon' and let me continue to watch it. It was at the part when they were in the field of flowers and in the one I watched they were Quite naked. The ending, I thought, was them just walking off through a door then it panned off into clouds. Giving a hint that they were both dead. I've look this video up because it just popped in my head after So many years ago. I'm now 45 and my father passed away 4 years ago. I was getting reminiscent of all the time we spent together. Thanks for posting it, even though it may not have been quite what I remembered it to be.

Maybe the one you saw was an extended cut? As for it being in colour, maybe this was remastered or because of it being monotone it looked b/w on the TV. I am curious, so now i am going to look it up and see if they made 2 versions. UPDATE: Sorry i couldn't find anything ..no reference to a longer or different version. So probably just how you remembered it was different.

Im about as atheist as it gets but... How has no one noticed that they were in purgatory? They were basically going over their life choices, sins and regrets in an empty room. Then once the sister resolved her issues they both got wings and left.
@Char10tti3
@Char10tti3 Жыл бұрын
I think they were just there reminiscing rather than it being a one off event. When the angel in white came in, she didn't have wings until she turned and seemingly both sisters knew how to fly and properly exit the room. There isn't too much similarity I see to purgatory more as in they're reliving their lives together.
@NotTooGoodAtReading94
@NotTooGoodAtReading94 Жыл бұрын
Well, your atheism is certainly on full display here 😂 not only were they clearly reminiscing before things took a turn (the wine, the laughter?) and were also called back by the angel, being already familiar with the concept of flying, but purgatory as a concept has no Biblical basis. It actually goes against the Word. The book of Revelation makes it pretty clear what will happen in the end. That said, it seems strange to me that an atheist would be speaking with any degree of authority on concepts that are the antithesis of their beliefs.

There was a controversy about who gets the Oscar, Originally the studio head (like Walt Disney) got this award the same as Best Picture today. Producer Cilia van Dijk complained that Ring should get the Oscar, but the Academy denied her request. In her acceptance speech, she was gracious and added "I have some people to thank, the writer: Borge Rong, the designer: Borge Rong, the animator: Borge Rong, and the director: Borge Rong". A year or two later the rules were changed to give the award to whoever is most creatively responsible.

It's life. I have loved two sisters, although it was decades apart. They both broke my heart. They are both still very special to me, but ultimately their relationship was the priority. As it should be.
