Some folk think its switching layouts. Some folk think its those inglenook shunting puzzles. But no, where it's really at is Oscars route selection. "Let's get this Princess over to the main line: snap snap snap snappity snap oops, not that one, resnap snaps more snapping snap snap". Just brilliant to watch and looks soooo much fun :) Your videos are so good to watch. One thing I do miss though: whatever happened to the groovy background music? I used to enjoy that

That mouse! I spent hours and hours over days and days trying to find it.... When my mother asked why was i staring at the cover all the time I told her to find the mouse; then she found it in minutes....

Once I explained the mouse signature, that Cuneo used, to my mother, she very enthused going through all the catalogue covers until she found all the mice. However she was disappointed that many catalogues did not use a Cuneo painting, so spoiling her persist. Happy memories.

Good morning Oscar I’m pleased too see that you are continuing with the ‘God’s Wonderful Railway’ theme! Nothing surpasses the look of a GWR locomotive resplendent in its coat of Swindon green whilst hauling a rake of ‘chocolate and cream’ coaches. The Dean single locomotive, ‘Lord of the Isles’, was always one of Triang’s best looking locos, especially when you consider when it was initially introduced into their product range. The loco looks dated now to our discerning eyes with its glossy finish and the big gap between the front bogie and main frames, but overall it’s still an attractive locomotive.

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. What a wonderful video of Lord of the Isles and her coaches. It Was a pleasure to see her today and as good as the day she was built. I thought that adding the two horsebox wagons was a good idea as verious wagons that where passed to travel in express trains did. I was just thinking Oscar, if you had the section of Hornby platform that has the subway steps on it, you could put a section on each of your platforms, so if anyone asks how the passengers get from platform to platform you can tell them they would use the platform subway. Problem solved. As always it's been a pleasure to watch your wonderful videos Oscar. Also hope all goes well with cleaning the turntable motor. Well it's time for my tea and toasted tea cake. ☕. Good evening Martin I was thinking the very same thing a subway would be the answer between the platforms, although they didn't make the platform sections with the steps going down to the subway for these early style of platforms that match the series 3 track, but I have a plan... Morning Oscar, what a lovely sight the Lord of the Isles and Clerestory coaches make. Great shots of the two Great Western trains running together, nice comparison between fishes on the locos. Totally agree with muir8009, your point snapping exercises are highly enjoyable. This is what having fun with toy trains is all about. Rivet counting highly detailed model railways are fantastic works of art, but for sheer enjoyment give me your layout every time. Best wishes to you and Roberta from Rob & Sue.

Another great start to Sunday Oscar. I've mentioned this before, if you soak that coal load in Dettol for 24 hours, that crusty varnish will come off with an old toothbrush. Dettol will even remove cellulose paints without harming the plastic, (though it will stain it if left for too long). experiment with an old painted wagon or something.

Hi Oscar, Lord of the Isles in lovely condition and a lively runner. It was quite ambitious of Triang to issue this model given its very old design but popular never the less. As always nice running and double running session. Best, Gordon

When it was released many would have seen these Dean Singles last running forty seven years earlier. Currently many models are released of locomotives scrapped by the early sixties, so over sixty years ago and so older than the Dean Singles last running. Interesting how the interest in older eras has increased over time.

Hi Oscar, Finally got to watch today's offering.. Late home from a train show and quite tired? I have never owned a "Lord of the Isles" loco.. Having a TT motor made me a bit worried about spare parts.. Also the magnet would probably not function on any later type of Nickle Silver track, but at the same time, I was also never confident that the wheel arrangement would go well on my older 'Standard' Tri-ang track layout either? IUt looks like a very nice loco, but not one I'm afraid for me? Grandson Charlie had a great day, with a display at his first show.. His older Tri-ang/Hornby collection was very popular. He received a very kind donation of some coaches and a "Hall" locomotive.. I'm not sure if the coaches were 'Blood and Custard' or GWR 'chocolate and cream'? ( I 'have a bit of trouble' discerning those colour schemes)? All in all, a very good day.. Lovely to see your locos and coaches running together on the layout today.. Greatly appreciated.. Thank you? I am constantly in awe of the choices of tracks that you can run trains on.. Mind you, all of your layouts have been great to watch? I have always looked back on the 'Super 4 layout" and enjoyed those days a lot? Looking forward, as always , to next week's offering? See you then..

Good morning Rob great to hear Charlie's first display went well, i hope you had a great time. These models of the Lord of the Isles as you point out can be a little temperamental but are very pretty items in the range and quite an interesting design on triangles part. They definitely don't have very much pulling power on nickel silver track. I've read that the early ones did not have the traction magnet. The wheel arrangement tends to encourage the model to drop into the frogs when the magnet is not doing its job holding the model flat on the track the point alloy blade accentuates this with a momentary loss of stick not only on the blade but the frog. Great video this morning Oscar and a great range if items, the glossy Lord of the Isles has always been a favourite of mine when I have seen it in videos, the gloss just looks really good on it, its a model I don’t have in my collection but my dad did have a Lord of the isles when he was younger, unfortunately I’m not sure if it was the gloss one and he doesn’t have to anymore, may have to keep an eye out for one myself, I don’t go for the older engines normally but as I say the gloss livery on this one just makes it look so good, keep up the great work Oscar.

Thank you Oscar for another fantastic video. The " Lord of the Isles " locomotive was in the Canadian edition of the 1971 Tri-ang / Hornby catalogue. I have that catalogue lying about somewhere in my flat. I never saw a " Lord of the Isles" locomotive in any shops here in the Dominion when I was a boy, I wonder how many were sold in Canada? Other exotica I recall from the Canuck 1971 catalogue was the streamlined LMS Coronation locomotive in the red / gold pin striped colour scheme, also some UK style passenger carriages. Anyway, the 13 year old me thought that a " Lord of the Isles" would be a great addition to my Super 4 layout. Best regards from British Columbia, Canada.

Good morning thanks for looking in. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. I've had a quick look in Pat Hammond's book story of Rovex volume one, I can't see production figures for the lord of the Isles for Canada, but indicates that it was constructed by Moldex in Australia and just 325 models were produced between 1963 and 67 it seems an incredibly small number. Might be a false memory, but I think that the ' Lord Of The Isles' locomotive was in either the 1970 or 1971 Canadian edition of the Tri-ang / Hornby catalogue. Both those catalgues I have not looked at in years, they are somewhere in a storage crate in my hall closet. Best regards from British Columbia.

Confession time. Those coaches are nice and I've found them to be quite useful when building GC clearstory stock. Cut and shut to add the missing compartment they're not completely accurate, but from a few feet away, they're passable.

The conversion of these coaches was a staple of modelling pre grouping and older era railways in the sixties and seventies. Numerous how to do it articles in the Railway Modeller and similar magazines of the time by highly regarded modellers. Hornby later did it to an extent with Midland versions and forming the basis of the four wheel coaches body sides. So you were not alone.

This the type of loco where an H&M controller with high/low resistance and full/half wave can work wonders for slow running and smoother starts and stops. Lovely loco though.

I Never Originally Appreciated Clerestory Coaches, but they Have been Fundamental in my Progression of only a Few Years (Late developer)thru the Hobby - LoTI doesn’t get much Track Time here but You may have reminded me to look her out - I have the Later version in a Presentation Box with 2 coaches to which I’ve added some Weight for Stable running - Great to See “Brown Vehicles” Running in a GWR Rake 🙌🏻 - Happy Sunday Everyone & Many thanks OP 👍🏻

I prefer the GNR Stirling No. 1 Single Wheeler. I don't see any LNER steamies on your railway. I'd like to see something like Tornado (new-build Peppercorn A1) running, if you wouldn't mind. I don't just love God's Wonderful Railway.

Hi Oscar, The Lord of the Isles works well with steel track using its magnadhesion. But on modern track it cannot pull the skin off a rice pudding. It is the same for all the big singles they made. Still it is nice to see it run well on your older track where it belongs. Another great video.
