Great documentary, well deserved Oscar, especially when you consider how difficult a feat the whole event was. From Alex accomplishing Free Soloing El Cap to Jimmy's team filming it all and the story development between Alex and Sawny's relationship.

I'm so happy for Jimmy, he is amazing! Learned about him from Meru expeditions with Conrad Anker and I've been a huge fan since. People who see him only now for the first time because of Free Solo have no idea what caliber of climber and alpinist he is. Luckily he also has passion in photography and film so we got to see all the amazing places he goes to from his perspective.

This movie won for one reason. Alex Honnold's climb. The 'documentary' plays like a shitty reality-show level production of Survivor El Capitan. Right down to the cheezy fuckin music at 'tense' times. All they needed was some a few more 'confessionals', especially with the lousy girlfriend, and it woulda been perfect. Fuck they even followed them to Home Depot, while she's trying to make him buy a goddamn $3k fridge. Then he puts the slammers on that and gets a $350 fridge. Good on him. Yeah, this thing coulda been made by anybody. If ANYONE deserves the Oscar, it was the climber cameraman who recently died.
