I do too, but the most emotional moment for me is when his face changes and you can see he is remembering his dad and wishing he was there. Rami has mentioned in a few interviews that he respected and admired his dad so much and his father always stressed to him and his brother and sister that they were capable of achieving great things. Rami was still just a struggling actor with only a couple small parts when his dad passed. His sister is an ER doctor and his brother is a teacher.

If any name other than Rami Malek had been called I would have thrown my remote through my tv screen. Bohemian Rhapsody was simply phenomenal. From casting to producing, screenplay, graphics, sound- it was just incredible. I noticed during the Live Aid performance at the end that the older woman next to me was softly crying and I asked if she was okay. Turns out, she was actually at Live Aid and saw Queen perform. She didn’t expect Rami Malek’s performance to be so incredible that she remembered what it felt like to watch Freddie Mercury perform that day. That’s how incredible his performance was. Had anyone else been cast instead of him, the entire movie would have bombed. It’s like he was born to play that role. There’s a video of Rami Malek performing as Freddie Mercury at Live Aid with the screen split to simultaneously see the real Freddie Mercury’s performance that day. You can barely tell them apart. It’s almost like the ghost of Freddie Mercury possessed Rami Malek.

Excellent casting choice . Growing up following Queen I was reluctant to watch the movie , I had the impression no one would be able to do it justice in a way that would capture the emotion , struggle with personal identity drive and vigour I have read about in many books about Freddie . An emotional rollercoaster of a movie , the highs , the lows , grappling with self awareness , the fear of not being accepted . This movie hit the right notes in every level. I had the pleasure of meeting Freddies mum before she sadly passed , living not far from me , in a local supermarket . Looking so frail sitting while her daughter was shopping , I approached her and just said " many of us still miss him too ".she looked at me , smiled , saying thank you . Priceless !!

Regardless of who you think should have won or what movie was your favorite, I think it's important that we all appreciate how monumental it is for a first generation Arab American to win an Oscar for his portrayl of a bisexual Indian immigrant who meant so much to so many people. I don't care what anyone says, Rami is the rightful winner to me and the perfect person to carry on Freddie's legacy. A true champion.
@JonathanHilierChannel5 жыл бұрын
Maybe you shouldn't look at everyone as a set of labels. Naturally bisexuals and immigrants would be minorities and thus there will be fewer of them in everything. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and I am a huge of Freddie Mercury and Queen's music. Also liked the acting, but didn't like the editing, it really shouldn't have got an award for that.

Queen have become a favourite of my six-year-old nephew. He was born the year "Bohemian Rhapsody" was released (2018), and loved "Fat Bottom Girls" from the moment he first heard it, along with "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", which his mother sang to him because she couldn't think of any nursery rhymes. She was surprised that she remembered all the words. My nephew is six now and the Queen song he loves singing at the moment is "We Will Rock You." I've learned to never turn Queen's music down, because my nephew will say: "No! Turn it up!"

I wrote my undergrad dissertation a year ago and it was inspired by this speech. I titled it 'The Power of the Immigrant'. I had just lost my Dad 6 months before, I was broken and could only think to honour him in my thesis for the intellectual he was. I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody with him the year before and he cried from start to finish because it was the 'soundtrack to his life', where Queen's music helped him through the loss of his own father. As Rami Malek says, 'the fact that I'm celebrating him and this story tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this.' My father was a first generation British Asian immigrant and stories like his need to be told. It still hurts that I was never able to share my dissertation with my Dad. But I believe the fact I was able to write it and graduate is a testament to the strength my father instilled in me - a testament to the power of the immigrant.
