I don’t think you understand how IMPORTANT THIS SPEECH IS!!! Sally field was a tv star for many years and became know for her role as the flying nun. For years she tried to expand her career , but she could not get any serious roles in movies because all people saw because people would see her as “the flying nun” When she was finally nominated for her first Oscar, she was still seen as a tv star, a lower class entertainer who only could do comedy. That year she won, but was still seen as a “ only tv comedy actress” who happened to win an Oscar. It wasn’t until this year that she truly felt appreciated by the industry and proved that comedic actress can be as good and as talented as any other “serious” actress. And this still happens today. many tv actors and actresses who are extremely talented, cant get roles in movies because they are seen as a b list talent.

We all wish to be liked one way or the other, but this isn't some vain nonsense that you're trying to make it out to be. Sally Field was typecast as a TV comedian due to her role in sitcom The Flying Nun. She was desperately trying to break that image and prove herself as a serious actress. Sure she won an Oscar for Best Actress in Norma Rae, but people just chucked it up as a fluke. This win established her as serious actress and showed that she had the talent to repeat the success. That's what she means when she says, "You like me, right now you like me." She's finally gained acceptance of her peers.

@janalalewicz73853 жыл бұрын
I dont think it was hated exactly but rather it was considered cringe-worthy lol. Theres such a thing as too much honesty and this is a perfect example. At the same time its incredibly sweet to lay yourself bare and to be so vulnerable. I dont think Sally Field knows how to be any other way. Shes extremely candid in interviews. This comment was like one of those things you may be thinking but what 99% of people wouldnt say out loud, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD! Over the years it has endeared people to her but at the time(and yes I was watching-yup I am that old!) people didnt know how to react to it. Wow it just blew up and you hesrd it EVERYWHERE like a punch line. Comedians mocked the hell out of her. She would go on talk shows and had to relive it and explain herself over and over again. I think it was genuinely spoken from the heart. She was so vulnerable and shared her insecurity with every single person in that room. They all knew EXACTLY WHAT SHE MEANT when she said it but instead of appreciating her for speakingbout they laughed about it cause everyone else was laughing too. Can you imagine how SF must have felt? The shame of it all is I bet she was never THAT open again. She expected to be embraced by her peers(cause after all they "really liked her" right? Instead she was ridiculed. I remember her saying later on in interviews that she was really hurt by that at the time but she didnt dare show it. Kinda like people who take a chance and are moved to leave a comment HERE on youtube....something important enough to them that they want to share it with someone else but then some hateful turd chooses to take a dump on their comment and try to humiliate them. Thats gonna make you think twice about sharing your thoughts and feelings again so openly(not me cause Im a crusty, thick skinned old broad) Heres a thought.....Theres no such thing as a "stupid comment" because someone cared enough about something to share a bit of themselves with the world and sometimes its EXACTLY what another person needed to hear at that exact moment even tho the comment had no meaning to you. We dont have to like what someone else has to say but we should respect them for taking the risk to share themselves

@@mcjl232 Mandela effect = (basically) People remember hearing, with certainty, what was popularized about a famous event instead of remembering what they actually heard or saw the person say at the time. Like Sarah Palin "saying" "I can see Russia from my house" -- a phrase Palin never uttered. Tina Fey said it in a comedy sketch, not Palin. @juancarlosfauvety5646 Жыл бұрын
I met Sally Field when I was 17 years-old, in Buenos Aires. We talked at the main entrance of the former Plaza Hotel. We were there, alone, she was alone, 7.30 Pm (school for me, early in the the following day). I said to her about my dreams of becoming an actor and dedicate my life to the movies. She was so curious about finding in there, without any journalist or anybody around, a young boy telling her those words, that he did inmediately a typical gesture with his mouth. She was very happy as well for that, we talked very close, even with a friendly distance between us, which I always remember, because she seemed to be so simple and cordial, that nobody would say she won an Academy Award a year before that. The anecdote does not finish there: a year later I saw her from my house in BA, walking up to the stage to get another Oscar. And Robert Duvall giving it to her, a couple of years before I met him a few steps from the place I met Sally, and meeting him many times then after that along the years. So this clip is about on actress who wished me luck shaking her hand so kind and smiling like a friend, without diplomacy but humanity, and an actor who I talked with many many times in the future, even inviting me to a party in Michelangelo, one time, during a cellebration he made. Of course, still, at my age an living in the wring country to keep my dreams alive, I still wait to go to the US. again and get inside definitely in that movie world in which I met and talked so many many stars and directors along all my life, as a movie fun first, a a journalist later, and as filmmaker in the last years. jcf.

I have never forgiven her for beating Mary Tyler Moore for Best Actress in Ordinary People. Spacek's role in Coal Miner's Daughter was nowhere near the acting tour de force Moore performed. One of the greatest injustices in Oscar history.

South America has always been where it is. People rarely drew it correctly, though. I learned that in middle school from a teacher who made a comment about it. But then again, when multiple alternate realities are concerned, everyone could simultaneously be right (and wrong).

I think this speech is wonderful, and I remember it fondly. Yes, it's very "human" and emotional, and what she says won't make sense to a lot of people, but remember she is being awarded for being THE BEST IN THE WORLD at her job, which must be an absolutely phenomenal feeling and not one the vast majority of us will ever understand. To have your work recognised at this level must feel overwhelming, and I forgive her for being emotional. Beautiful little speech. Lovely human.

Great speech, this must have been a tough category to predict, all excelled. Personally, for me, Judy Davis is under-rated and certainly came close on more than one occasion to winning an Oscar.

The Oscars didn't change anything. What I think people who espouse the Mandela Effect are implying is that HISTORY changed. The UNIVERSE changed. We're no longer living in the universe where Sally Field said "You like me, you really, really like me!" It's the same phenomenon among people (like me) who SWORE it was "Bearenstein Bears", when in reality they are called the "Bearenstain Bears".
@madijuls8 жыл бұрын
SwitcherooU Lol u watched Shane Dawson xD
@Multiversetraveler937 жыл бұрын
That's mainly due to people referencing the wrong pronunciation or phrase. It's like the game of telephone. Everyone knows it was spelt "Bearenstain" but it was pronounced differently. "Luke, I am your father." was again chained down to a difference quote.

@loveanimals69817 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not true. Kinski, for a GOOD five-year stretch in the '80s, worked with some of the finest talent in the land, actor- and director-wise. She worked with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Wim Wenders, Tony Richardson, Hugh Hudson, and of course, Roman Polanski. Some of her leading men included none other than Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Dudley Moore, Nureyev, and Gerard Depardieu. Usually, she was in nicely-budgeted movies, with major talent all-around involved. So often, though, they turned out to be misfires -- but not always. It should be noted that even the "misfires" often had moments of greatness in them though.
@mickthenick16 жыл бұрын
'Tess' and 'Paris, Texas', the greatest of them all. It is Mrs. Kinski's true legacy. Beautywise, she combined Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, and Angelina Jolie. Totally irresistible.
