One of the most deserved Oscars in Academy history. Any other year, this might have been Mary Tyler Moore's, but there is just no topping this performance.

Agreed! Mary Tyler Moore's performance in Ordinary People was amazing. She played the emotionally cold & shut-off parent role so very well. You hated her, and yet empathized with her at the same time. What a beautiful, poignant movie that was. Donald Sutherland was great in it, too.

I was 15 and me and a friend went to see this because of word of mouth at how good it was. I grew up around country music but at 15 I was more into Rock and Roll. I wasn't expecting much of the move but man I was amazed at how good it was! Still to me one the best movies ever made. She certainly deserved this Oscar.

I'm glad to know she won that year for playing Loretta, but God - I would surely more happier if she've won for Carrie. My favorite actress' performance - As Piper should've won for Supporting Actor. Both of them were amazing in that movie, I really felt bad for Carrie and was scared to Margaret.

@w19721 Sissy Spacek was the favourite and had won every other single award that year. The film was critically acclaimed a huge box office hit and she sang all the songs by herself.

Dustin received his Oscar the year before and presented Sissy her Oscar. They star in a new movie with his son and her daughter, SAM & KATE , being released 11/11. I saw film premiere last Friday at Austin Film Festival and was very pleased with the acting and endearing story. A movie that will lift your spirits!

Dustin loves to hear himself talk doesn’t he. Shut up and introduce people. If you portray a person you have a big chance to win because Hollywood loves those.
