Even if he would've won only one Oscar in his lifetime, even though I'm glad he's won more than once, he truly deserved one for his towering role in Cuckoo's Nest. Truly one of the top 10 greatest performances in history.

Al Pacino gave such an iconic performance in _Dig Day Afternoon,_ but literally no one else could have won Best Actor that year. Jack Nicholson's performance in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was even more iconic.

Pacino's performance was more daring and is the best of his career. It was already his 4th nomination. But it was Jack's 5th. It was his time and Cukoos Nests' year. They both were great. Interesting note: my father swears that as great as Jack was in the movie, the best McMurphy he saw was William Devane's performance off-Broadway. Wish I could've witnessed that.

The thing is if Nicholson would have won the previous year for Chinatown, or Pacino for Godfather II, this would not have been an issue. The thing is that come 1975, both Pacino and Nicholson should AT LEAST have one oscar each

This is my all-time favorite movie. Any other film I have seen after Cuckoo´s nest cannot live up to this masterpiece. I also think Mr Nicholson has never delivered a better performance since his sublime Randle Patrick McMurphy's role. An unique moment in show-business history.

I love when he breaks out that smile as he walks to the podium. I notice that smile on other Oscar winners, who waited through a a few nominations. That wonderful feeling of achievement and recognition hits them.. Check out, Gregory Peck and Bert Lancaster, you see it there too. Still love the movie and the performance was great, but i think he is even better in The Last Detail.
