I've been seeing and enjoying all the stories and poems commented on my orchestral covers so I'm starting to make a tradition to feature one every video! Lowkey inspired by seeing Natikigonis's and Fan Ost videos having poems in their descriptions, but I don't just want any poems, I want YOUR poems! So have at it. Maybe the tradition will stick, maybe it wont. Edit: Seeing these wonderful poems are so fucking cool. I’m going to have to choose one which will be so tough soon. I will most definitely add a honorable mention or two. AND even if you don’t get picked, don’t be discouraged, I read each one and love them all, and you can even try again in my other videos!

i like how this sounds like an almost cheerful song of fathoms, like this is the oscillation spoken of in myth rather that the horrible reality. my only critique is that the pizzicato strings, like your other covers, are just a bit to prominent and should probably have been smth else. otherwise i love it!

I really like the idea brought up with myth, I think that's a really cool concept, especially with all the stuff going on, there's bound to be myth and legend. Explorers and divers missing in expedition, merchants and pirates lost to sea. About the pizzicato strings, you might mistaken for the charango/mandolin I use, I've been really liking them and how they stand out, hence why I have been using them so much, lowkey have been making it a small part of my so called "style" However I understand I may be putting too much of a focus on them. If you are talking about my actual pizzicato strings, I will check them out and I appreciate the critique Glad to hear you loved it!

ok this might sound a bit ramble-y because it is late and i have so many thoughts yet i cannot put them in a coherent manner but i want to get them out before i forget them so i am so sorry i actually think your right about the mandolins, at least in a sense. the beginning is amazing, and arguably just as good as the original at making you realize just how badly you've messed up by going to the depths, just in a more epic sense. i actually think now that the problem isnt the main melody, but the dies irae section. i feel like if the mandolin wasnt used there, it would make the part where it comes back after all the more powerful. what if like a piano or violin was there instead, and then that instrument continues to accompany the mandolin in the background after the mandolin begins to play the main melody again? tbh it feels less like they need to not be used at all and more like the mandolin just needs to be used a little more selectively. i entirely agree that they stand out, and have an almost magical quality to them, but that fantastical air is lost when we are spoiled with them. its the same reason why touhou music works so well, or even naktigonis with his singing/chanting (bible readings). touhou is known for its zunpets, and yet they only feature when they need to, despite how amazing they sound. they add extra ooomph to the score but if they aren't needed, they arent used. kagome-kagome from th8 is almost entirely trumpet, and yet when the piano takes center-stage to play the main melody for a few seconds, the zunpets feel all the more powerful when they come back. same with naktigonis whenever he sings. it's used sparingly, and yet he has an incredible singing voice. he uses it to add dread or tension to a song (or to make an aboslutely banger climax) that really sells how much danger you're in. i guess what im trying to say is that using these mandolins may sound cool, but saving them for when they sound best gives them that extra edge that really sells just how amazing they actually sound. either way, the first half of this song is probably your best work yet and the second half, even suffering from mandolin-overdose, is still amazing. @@notbanditatall

I really appreciate the time you took to write this. It really does help me learn and improve. I will check out your examples for inspiration and "note taking", and I tried doing a little bit of it in my newest cover, I'm getting better with mixing so I will definitely try to implement that strategy more.

Not bad bro, but a high pitched flute woulda been better for the main motif. All the critique aside though, good job man!

I appreciate that, I did have 4 woodwinds already on the melody, and it was very hard to make them stand out, tried straight gain, amps, giving it highlighted moments, they worked well, just sadly, weren't prominent. Thank you!

A tip I can give is it takes a little too long for the piano part to start. So its a lot of the same point Which degrades the limited attention span of deepwoken players

I was thinking the exact same thing and was considering making the intro shorter by atleast a chorus or two. However I deciding against it because longer videos help the channel more, and supposedly the actual song goes that long so I wanted to keep true to it aswell. I always keep in mind to make my intro's fancy and compelling but good point, I should make sure the hook doesn't fall off in the beginning after the intro. After this video picks up speed, I will check the analytics to see the viewer drop-off rate at which point of the video and improve from there. Thanks for the advice! PS I also mentioned in subtitles when the Intro ends, hopefully helping some.

That could be very very interesting, I'm going to check out the examples you mentioned, cause when I imagine it, it seems like a tough messy project. However I think it has the potential to be beautiful if done right!
