I am trying to listen to every video I can find with Klaus Mäkelä! He is humble, grounded, smart, and perhaps above all has the ability to extract the essence of a work, translate his intent to the orchestra, and then to the audience - superb. I myself played 'cello for many years in a community orchestra, and we had a conductor who was similar. It is amazing what je ne sais quoi (it is far more than "sound" and cannot be quantified) a conductor like Klaus Mäkelä can "get" in an orchestra. Thank you Oslo Philharmonic and Mr. Mäkelä from the bottom of my heart.

He's on point. He may be young, but he has gained wisdom and continue to do so. ❤️💕 He is right that it is the conductor's duty to understand the journey of the composer and recreate the experience of the piece, and it is important to listen to musicians/colleagues too

I believe we all knew that this man would achieve great things as a conductor. Two years after this video was produced we know that in addition to leading the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris, he will soon be leading one of the great orchestras of the world, the Concergebouw in Amsterdam. I watch every performance he conducts that is available on KZbin and am never disappointed. And yes, his interviews are always filled with charm and intelligence. Going back to his training with Jorma Panula is possible as well... seeing him as a teen preparing for his amazing career. What am world in which we live, with such wonderful music available to us. This orchestra especially, has given us beautiful music during the pandemic. Makes me proud to be a Norwegian... though I've never gotten closer to Norway than a winter visit to Copehagen... decades ago.

Klaus Makela is the best conductor ever! I hope he stays with the Oslo Philharmonic for a long time; it's my favorite orchestra, and he's my favorite conductor. I'd love to be as knowledgable in the classical field as he is! I love the way he conducts, he is amazing at capturing the true beauty and mood of classical music. Keep up the astounding work!!! 🥰 Maybe someday I'll be able to see him conducting in person! 🙏❤🙏

I just heard Makela tonight in San Francisco conduct Shostakovich 10. Immensely exciting. He whips up a big, bold sound, but also has very sensitive phrasing. He's so young -- the sky's the limit. Reminds of Karajan's early start when he was known as "Das Wunder."

Your economy of hand and body movements while you conduct reminds somewhat of Fritz Reiner who was famous for an often invisible beat. Except you don't terrorise the orchestra the way he did. You love your musicians as they love you. Reiner knew the score and so do you. The result is great music making. I'm looking forward to hearing you conduct more music. Thank you.
