Btw, the Fairviews are being updated too! These are exactly functionally the same as the Farpoint, but with a women's specific fit. At the moment it seems some people are finding the new editions in European stores, maybe not yet in US ones, but I wanted to share this review right away so you can decide whether to wait or to grab any of the old ones in a clearance sale.
My overview of best travel backpacks: www.indietraveller.co/best-ba...

An in-depth review of the Osprey Farpoint 55 backpack (newly released 2022 version). We look at how it's different from the previous editions and if it's worth getting when it goes on sale.

Check my full FP40 & FP55 review here! kzbin.info/www/bejne/honOe6ufjN9rj68 Two corrections to this first look video: 1) I show the daypack being attached to the back with two straps going into the shoulder straps. This isn't correct! You're supposed to loop the two compression straps on the back of the main pack through the daypack to attach it. You're NOT meant to use the load lifter strap clips for this. I got this pack without any kind of manual or info from Osprey so I just had to guess 😂 2) The Daylites can't clip into the front of these packs. You can still however attach them to the back.

This was so helpful as I kept finding feedback about the older versions of the 55L. I was going to grab the 40L so that it was a carry on, but maybe I might as well grab this new 55L since it seems that its essentially a 40 with a daypack.

Good video. I own the original Farpoint 40 as well as a load of other Osprey backpacks and wheeled bags, so am familiar with them. These changes are all very welcome, I may go to my local store and see if I should upgrade. The 55 now is a really good solution for flights with 2 cabin bag option (like Wizzair Priority). There is only one issue for me still - the water bottle pockets. Osprey should put them on the side, not the front (or back, depending how you look at it). The front is massively impractical, also it moves the balance of the bag even further back.

I just got a Daylite and yes it can attach to the back. Just not quite as smoothly (you can't loop the compression straps through the pack the way you can with the FP Daypack). The Daylites won't clip to the front

Would you recommend getting the FP40+Daypack vs FP55? 1. I feel the FP44's front looks better than the plain FP55 with the daypack removed without the outside storage. The day pack will mostly be strapped on my shoulders as its much more practical. 2. Regarding the interior of FP40vs FP55 which one is more practical? I think the zipped pockets change + laptop storage
@indietraveller

I just got the new FP40. I think FP40 + daylite plus is the ultimate combo if you're OK with the daypack on your shoulders or holding it by the grab handle. FP40 is more complete/versatile
@indietraveller

Interior of Fp55 is slightly better. It has a mesh side pocket in the main compartment that the fp40 doesn't have. But laptop compartment etc. are better on fp40 overall imo

It does. It seems the clips that I attached the daypack into in the video are actually for the load lifter straps! The daypack is actually attached by looping the straps at the back through the handles on the pack

Can you remove the rigid frame of the main pack, and wash the pack in the washing machine?

Not that I'm aware, though washing machine is usually not recommended anyway. The best way is to rinse or handwash for example in a bathtub

The older Farpoint 55 model was available in two back lengths, the SM sized pack being 2" shorter than the ML sized one already met the carry on requirements. Unfortunately most reviewers only getting the ML bags missed that difference back then and instead recommened getting the significantly smaller Farpoint 40, I found all that out by accident when examining both bag sizes in the store. Thankfully Osprey now switched to one back size and made the whole bag shorter and slightly wider. The mesh pockets of the daypack are still worthless, I recommend using the newly designed Osprey Daylite Plus instead, it can easily be strapped onto the Farpoint.

@@richcole3931 I think the length of the old bag is 3 inches larger correct? I bought both of them to see which one I like better and to test the sizes. I need it to be carry-on compliant for my flights in Europe. Also the new version might be heavier?

Yesterday I got an email notification from Osprey saying that the new UPDATED FP40 is now in stock, I immediately jumped on their site and was able to order one at the new price of $185. Today I checked and they are once again out of stock, anyone waiting for this bag should sign up to get notified once it is back in stock. It seem like limited stock has been trickling in over the last couple of weeks on the FP40. I was also able to get a FP55 for $220, they seem to have limited stock of the FP55 as their website shows low stock at the time of purchase.

The day pack with the zipper attachment was the best design for travelers. Taking that away was absolutely idiotic.
@marcykaren
@marcykaren 4 ай бұрын
I have always found that if you fully pack the main that it is nearly impossible to zip on the daypack. I can understand that the from a security standpoint that the zipper method is more secure but I discovered on the metro in Mexico City that wearing the daypack in the front was actually much more secure. Someone tried to pull off the backpack as I was entering the car just as the doors were closing. Having the daypack in the front made this impossible. So from now on, in any somewhat sketchy areas I always wear the daypack in the front.
