I was the opposite, and I went from RS3 to OS on the launch, played for a few months, then didn't touch it for 10 years. I restarted and got to the mid-late game, and then came back to RS3 for a while. You'll enjoy the game itself, without the MTX. It has the drawback though of being HUGE grind into dailyscape and weeklyscape. It can be hard to play even close to efficiently without them, especially as an ironman, so beware of that. Other than that, the PVM in RS3 is phenomenal , and much different than OSRS. I think it's much more engaging, and once you get to the "newer" quests in the God line series, the lore gets so deep as well, and is a very good storyline if you pay attention to it.

Unlocking Anachronia will turbocharge your Herblore gains. The weekly Herby Werby game will give you points to buy a bag that allows you to carry noted and un-noted grimy herbs. For monsters that drop herbs this is a very convenient upgrade. Also make Bank Presets for your most commonly used combat styles and have one preset for Inventory that you can override quickly for whatever skill you're doing. I like to use Preset 1 for this and set it to only load the inventory. That way if I want to make potions I can easily switch from Marrentil and Vials of Water to Marrentil Unfinished potions and Unicorn Horn dust. It lets you automate common tasks like fletching and firemaking. Stuff you can afk while bankstanding. Another thing to watch for is the Runespan. There you can semi-afk Runecrafting. Head to Tam McGruber in Burthorpe for a free Wicked Hood and feed it one of each Talsiman. With it you can teleport to the Wizards tower (Top Floor) and the ability to enter any rune altar that you've fed it the taliman for. Plus it gives 2 teleports to any altar you have access to.
