Speaking of mandates indefinitely, I’m old enough to remember when the Ontario Nurses Association celebrated their victory of arbitration of vax or mask mandate in 2016: “The VOM Policy The contentious VOM policy forces nurses and other health care workers to wear an unfitted surgical mask for the entire flu season if they choose not to get the influenza vaccine. ONA’s position has always been that receiving the influenza vaccine needs to be a true choice and should be part of a more comprehensive, evidence-based infection control plan. Publicly “outing” nurses who choose not to receive immunizations with mandatory mask-wearing unfairly punishes them for a personal health decision.” Where did these policies and notion disappear in 2021?

I was out for almost 2 weeks. I went several days without eating or drinking and lost about 10 lbs. One data point, I know, but I have had people in all seriousness tell me what happened to me didn't happen to me. I told my doctor about it the next year and all he said was that happens sometimes and maybe I should just skip it. That was about 7 years ago and I haven't had a flu shot since and haven't had had the flu since either. Another data point, about fifteen years ago my son was threatened to be kicked out of kindergarten if he didn’t get the chicken pick vaccine. His dad wanted it, and I let it happen. I developed a rash that looked like chicken pox. The doctor told me I had chicken pox, and I must have been exposed and it’s just a coincidence that my reaction came as my son was immunized. I told the doctor I’d had chicken pox as a kid… she told me that’s impossible. The literature agreed with me. A vaccinated person was “rarely” contagious. I read Malignant and found the proposals for FDA reform quite sensible. I really wish it had designed trials for gathering trial data in efficacy of masks and vaccines instead of depending on the pharmaceutical companies that have disincentives to find efficient solutions. From Pfizer or Moderna perspective asking for 4th booster in all age groups makes sense just to increase their potential market. FDA could have required larger trial size for younger age groups instead of the current tiny size of the 5-11 age data. The original trial data in 2020 was large, and I can't help but think that the newer data set was so much smaller for a profit motive like fear that a high power trial would show marginal benefit or rare negative effects that would torpedo potential sales.

This has become a bit like ECT, but in reverse. The ECT of the past was horrible because it was OVERUSED at max intensity. It seemed to work for a number of people because early implementations of ECT effectively lobotomized some people. Modern ECT works well because it is low intensity, controlled by sophisticated monitoring hardware, and it's only used AS NEEDED FOR PEOPLE WHO SUFFERING THE WORST TYPES OF MENTAL HEALTH DISTRESS. If we could kind of fast-forward and match the lessons learned from the use of ECT PERHAPS we could develop a more reasonable policy towards subsequent boosters. I would like to clarify something really important that you missed. While it’s true that the spike sequence in the vaccines is not from the “currently dominating strain”, this does *NOT* capture the reality of the situation. The strain from which that sequence is derived is *EXTINCT*. There is a massive difference between immunizing against an antigen that is around but not “dominant”, and immunizing against a target that no longer exists. “The dominant strain” is not a term from evolutionary biology. Yes, there will be cross reactivity, it’s the same species after all. I was (and am still) in favor of the first series of vaccines and one booster for certain populations, (this gets rid of immunological naivety). That said, this would be the 4th shot within a year? With low quality and low quantity evidence? Without the randomized trials? For people who already have background immunity? Targeted against an extinct sequence? In the backdrop of ómicron that has immune evasive properties? Bruh, they want to sell us immunity against a ghost. Look, I’m currently a grad student studying RNA biotech, so I’m as biased in favor of mRNA (or rna anything) as one can get, but this is ridiculous. There’s already data showing original antigenic sin. We should not accept a Wuhan-Hu-1 (the ancestral strain) based 4th booster vaccine, full stop. These companies bailed humanity out of this pandemic with the first series of vaccines; I believe that should be rewarded. But at this point, they’re being greedy and just trying to squeeze out the juice out of this already made product by exploiting EUAs and an overly relaxed/biased regulatory body. They’ve made millions (billions?) of dollars; they can afford to design and properly test an omicron specific vaccine or better yet, make evolutionarily robust vaccines. The whole point of RNA is that the same platform can be used for different vaccines by just changing the sequence. Manufacturing will be the same, the only cost is in the new design and running trials. I say: Go back into the lab and comeback when you have something good with the data to back it up! That or gtfo.
@ms-jl6dl2 жыл бұрын
"Bailed humanity"? 😂😂😂 Really? Where? In Vietnam,India,Uganda,Namibia,Kazahstan? You know 5 billion people that never got vaccinated and did fine. Are you familiar with other deseases including flu? The narrative has gone so far away from the science, even this comes across as sensible. First, get everyone healthcare. Work on BMI and vitamin D levels. Do some real RCTs on those 'alternative' treatments. And have a vigurous open public dialogue about who, if anyone, benefits from these covid vaccines.

@@ms-jl6dl everyone doesn't have a car. everyone does at some point need to see a doctor. insurance products historically came out of the spice trade when owners needed to offset their risk at the possibility of loss. these are for single incidence coverage based on perceived risk of loss. insurance, as a product, makes ZERO sense when considering full population coverage. That's one of the main reasons healthcare costs in the US are the highest in the world by a wide margin, while outcomes are the middle of the pack by country. So individuals pay the absolute highest per individual for healthcare with less than average results. So yeah, I already do pay for it. And so do you.

So nice to hear. The same people that are ramping up are the ones still asking people to get tested at their work. I work at a University and still am mandated to get tested once a week. I don’t work with the public or students. I work in a building that comes in contact with no one. I hope at some point they can stop this and let everyone be, but I don’t think these universities will do that. I am unjabbed but had Omicron. Me and my kids were all fine. We live a healthy lifestyle, continue to take the supplements recommended in the Covid protocol including nasal and mouth rinses. I would love to see more people educated on health and taking care of of themselves rather than a shot every 4-6 months.

Do you really all get Flu shots every year in the US? I've never had one, in the UK it's only ever for the elderly and presumably the immunocompromised! So if the argument is that we should treat these vaccines as we do the flu shots then I agree.
@Micg512 жыл бұрын
I think it’s mostly recommended for seniors and immunocompromised in the US. I’m mid 20s and have probably got the flu shot 5 times in the last 10-15 years. Also didn’t get boosted and have no intentions on doing so.

People who work in health care in the USA may be mandated to get the flu shot depending on their employers policies. As a retired health care professional I did not always get it nor was I required to wear a mask. Then big corporate medicine facilities started mandating flu shots or making you wear a mask if you didn't get it. I expect that to continue. But I'm out of the business now and so happy to be free from corporate medicine ball and chain.

Great analysis of current situation and the knee jerk responses we have come to expect. I think its also ironic that the VP ( Kamala Harrris ) is out their touting the expansion of the internet access to children and how important the "passage of time is" even one day is important. The administration is constantly signaling how much they care about children and the passage of time while their teachers unions have done a lot of harm to children's future with the school restrictions.

I told a coworker about my frustration with the policy of the medical facility where I'm scheduled for a routine screening procedure. The appointment scheduler advised me that I would have to be tested for covid the day before he procedure _because_ I'm not vaccinated, or boosted within however many months, even though I had covid and have natural immunity against Omicron which is far better than vaccine immunity. My coworker said she went through the same thing, being told she'd have to wait until the week prior to the procedure date to be called with her testing appointment time. You can't call them to schedule it, and you can't go somewhere closer to home or work to have the test, it has to be done at the hospital they're affiliated with, and if the time slot they give you doesn't work for you then the procedure will be cancelled. She told them to forget it, then, she'll wait until the restrictions are lifted to go in for that screening, because she can't take _two_ days off work, nor even a half day for testing, and she definitely can't give short notice the week of because it's difficult enough to get coverage on long notice, and near impossible to get it on short notice. So they told her they'd work with her and just do a rapid test when she arrived for the procedure. She went to the same facility I'm scheduled to have it done, so I spoke with them and gave the same story she did. They decided they'll work with me and give me a rapid test the day of the procedure, _if_ they still require testing by the time of my appointment. They said cases are way down and dropping, so it could be over by then.

Years ago my frail mother (who has since passed away) was advised to get her regular flu shot. I had seen a few studies, casually, over the years though I felt motivated to dig deep. I intensely studied over a dozen studies of flu shots across many years, across countries, several meta-analysis, etc. Lots of different perspectives and some variations in method. My conclusion: the flu shot at most offers very little benefit during the most vulnerable years. There’s a good chance that on average it does nothing or has negative effect. The most optimistic studies used to hype flu shot effectiveness are just as bad in quality as many recent studies on masks or anything the CDC published recently. Historically the CDC has publicly admitted to using deception to advance their pro-vaccine agenda, specifically for flu shots. With what we’ve learned since COVID-19 I encourage you all to do your own deep dive on the flu shot and see if it’s as good as you thought.

Well done. I did the same thing, read every single adult flu vaccination study on the cdc's website. The lack of efficacy is actually quite stunning! My best friend's son got the flu shot in his early 20's and got Guilliam Barre syndrome. It was pretty bad and it took a ton of rehab for him to get better. This pandemic has definitely gotten me thinking on these flu shots since they never are that protective if any.
