I went from what my family was called Middle Middle Class from when my parents got married in 1954, to my brother in 1956 and me in 1959, to Poor! It was then I heard for Poor being called low income, the needy, the underserved, the Under Class, the penniless, the destitute. Both parties are too concerned with making Middle Class lives better and they’re hardly suffering. They have no clue what it’s like to lose things! They don’t know what it’s like to be on the brink of homelessness, they’ve never gone a day hungry. Republicans and Democrats if they bother to even acknowledge us, we’re not called Poor but all those other insulting names as if saying the word Poor, teeth would start falling out and do their best to make life easier for Middle Class. We Poor aren’t acknowledged as people so we’re renamed every few months so politicians feel better. I didn’t notice it until I fell. The need for class stratification? In other words a stupid cast system? My family was called Middle Middle Class in the mode to late 50’s, 60’s, 70’s all the up to the end of the 80’s and mid 90’s when my parents passed, Middle Class bumping up a notch to just Middle Class that politicians are so eager to make life better for totally ignoring Poor to giving us the very least and having to jump through hoops to get and keep help. Class stratification is NOT a need! I don’t know if they still have it, but India had a caste system. Know what they called the Poor? The Untouchables! They were literally ignored! Maybe they changed it. This country refuses to, and class stratification as you call it, is just another way to be treated different. A different caste. Rich think they’re better than others, Middle Class think they’re as entitled as Rich, Poor get the scraps, blamed, hoop jumping to get help and keep it, villainized or totally ignored. I’m Poor! NOT low income, the underserved which is easy for politicians to call us because they don’t think our existence matters as much, the Under Class, the low wealth, the needy, the destitute and who knows what new names will be chosen, treating Poor like we’re nothing more than bacteria to reclassify so others feel a little more comfortable referring to us.
