It's really not. This entire video could be summarized as "HP drain depends on the value assigned to it, the length of the map, NC density, and how big the gap between notes are". It's literally as simple as understanding this sentence.

4:04 actually, this only happens when you complete a combo "well". in osu wiki, there are the combo ending weird japanese characters--a "geki", which is received on the last note of a combo when all hits are 300's, gives a large hp boost, while a "katu" / "katsu" is received on the last note of a combo when the combo only has 100's or 300's hit (no 50 and no miss). it gives a smaller boost. if you get a 50 or a miss during the combo, there is no additional hp boost

Why not just scratch the whole standard HP system and make it like taiko's scorev1 HP drain? That way spinners won't be a problem, as it is a fill-up system and you won't fail a map just because you missed half a second of slider patterns. You could also just play it through even if you fail, which is much better than having to retry and fail at the same spot. The current one is bad as it is, let alone when scorev2 comes into play, which is used by many tournaments.

This, I played all mode before but now I play only Taiko on osu! because HP Drain just purely sucks, I just hope they will change it to a Battery type HP bar because this is how it's done in about any good rhythm game, though I think that having the choice is even better, generaly, Drain is much harder than what we are used to, it's not actually draining, it's just starting at 100%, you lose a shitlot every miss, and it fills up veryyyyy slowly, typically only on perfect hit

i saw a formula, calculating aspect from space, acc and more each play has weighted, i guess. the highest pp will have 100% weighted.. and it goes down as more play goes into it until 0% which technically give 0 pp even it is 100pp.. it also have algorithm.. atleast that how i understand it.. so yeah.. it is possible to lose pp if you higher score play has lower pp than you previous highest score because pp only encounts the highest score only..

because the map edit he played didn't include the low density part of the map, therefore the actual HP drain on the edit was much higher than the one of the whole map. It played out just fine on the whole map

Living Flower not true. there are many people that play the game for fun, if you just go on twitch you can share your maps with the 4-5 viewer streams and im sure theyd enjoy it if it were good. you can always ask other good mappers as well, they know quality, because they're good mappers. it doesn't even have to be a pro/well known mapper, just somebodys maps you think are good enough. saying that is just an excuse to not try and better your mapping.

IMO the whole HP mechanic is bullshit. Accuracy (and combo, to some degree) show how good you are. Why should the game artificially stop you from playing a map if you happen to mess up a short sequence of a map while rocking the rest of it? But well, it has always been like that so it just HAS to be fine. At least that's what it feels like.

What's so fun about always being able to pass a map? Although mostly unfair, specially the drain on spinners / sliders on some maps, the drain mechanic adds a lot of fun to players, for example those who go for passes like me. If you don't like losing, then don't miss that short sequence of the map you're talking about. Easy.

Because that's how it was in the DS game osu! was based on. I'm not sure why they decided to keep it in osu!lazer, and I remember when lazer's HP system resembled traditional ones (now it has passive drain, even in o!m). There was a recent change to osu!stable and osu!lazer, after you wrote this, that made it so you can't fail unless you miss a note. Final note: in osu!lazer, spins after clearing a spinner (once it starts counting 50, 100, 150...) give you double the HP gain, while in stable, it just gives you the same (even once it starts counting 1000, 2000, 3000...).
