Can you make a video talking about why the super popular loved/graveyarded maps are unrankable? I see replays and I just don't know what's so wrong about them
@Ramsiccletzz3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand most loved or graveyard beatmaps can't get ranked because the mappers chose not to rank them or the map is just impossible to be ranked due to it's quirks

Very helpful and informative! I'm a beginner mapper (currently working on 5th mapset) and so far, my main 'goal' is to just have fun creating maps, and try to let others have fun in the process. I'm trying to improve and am experimenting with different music, bpm, difficulties, patterns, everything i can think of. It is very difficult and can be frustrating and time consuming, but is very fun and can be relaxing in a way. I haven't gotten many mods because whenever i have, the person modding has told me to gain more experience by watching (whaddya know) your videos, and practice. I definitely understand that my mapping is far from perfect, and am absolutely always open to critisism and tips from others, because i want to improve. I won't stop mapping anytime soon because its fun, and i want to create things that others think are fun. I want to be proud of the maps i produce and truly be satisfied with what i create. You are a big inspiration for me, and the main cause of why i started mapping. I will keep watching your videos for information and tips because I look up to you and want to create maps that you, and everyone else i admire, would enjoy. happy mapping, pishifat. keep making quality content.

The issues I found in mapping in general is not the making of one, but the modding of one. Most knowledgeable modders and mappers are reluctant to check on new mapper's map. Well, even if it's not the case, there's this invisible barrier that separates the new mapper and the hardened ones. It's like, once you're a veteran/hardened mapper, it's hard to reach out to you. Opinion from guy who's interested in mapping but don't know where to bring his map to. It's like making cookies and you want to know how it taste but you know that you are not a capable judge of yourself and there's no one to ask opinion to, in the end, you kinda throw the cookie away or just forget about it. That's how I see it. P.S : I'm no expert in the matter (heck, I'm still learning the ropes until now). It's a lonely place in the mapping community without connection. Anyone wants to be my friend here? Maybe taught me a bit while we're at it
@pianojoe66986 жыл бұрын
I can totally see how that would be the case. The forums seem pretty intimidating for someone new. I've been playing for a bit over a year now and just started mapping my first map set the other day. It's a lot of fun so far, but takes a while. I'm obviously new to mapping, but if you ever want some feedback (and maybe try my sets if I ever finish?) let me know. osu name is ShowMeYaMoves if you feel like adding me.

I've been getting better but the one thing I can't understand is that most maps have notes going off to the far sides, and whenever I try to make a map it's limited to the square sized grid and I can't go any further
@Alignment894 жыл бұрын
I don't like how you keep mentioning the idea of new mappers going to struggle, fail and make shit maps as it is some kind of given, because it's not. However I think the whole idea of doing something for the first time equals a bad result has encrypted itself into peoples minds and therefore they have that as a starting trigger everytime they are testing something new. This needs to change so that people DON'T live with that unecessary limited, negative, expected outcome and instead embrace the positive creativity and GOOD expectations that also exist alongside the unwanted ones. Time to choose if you want good or bad. I choose to not think limitations and expectancy of "failure" because everything we do and try is all learning anyway and it will always be. Failure is merly a concept created by us designed to well mock ourselves in our trying for whatever dumb/wacky reason..

Basically; Don't try to rank your first map. You won't succeed no matter how hard you will try, how many mods you will get, how many guest difficulties; It won't work. Give mapping atleast two years of time before trying to rank something yourself. When you're feeling satisfied with your progress and when people actually acknowledge your maps, I think it's finally time to rank something.

Question about mapping: How much should I rely on distance snap or grid snap? I see you not using them, but realize that you have years of experience that I don't.
@ElMustaccio6 жыл бұрын
I'd say you only really need to use distance snap on easy and normal difficulties, with hard being debatable. If you don't use distance snapping however, you should have consistent visual spacing between objects. As for grid snap, you can do whatever you want, but I'd recommend not using it because it really limits your object placement options, especially if you're using distance snap on top of it.
@ilya24686 жыл бұрын
Kr0n[]5 I use gridsnapping mostly for slidershapes, bcs it's more convient make it with a grid on (yea). Else i use it to put an object perfectly in a centre. DS also has many uses, like putting objects on the same distance (i use copypaste though), correcting streams a bit et cetera. Well, just use those as you like, but mapping grid on succs

I would say don't try to rank a mapset until you know that you suck at mapping. At that point you will be able to actually progress effectively and hopefully rank something your newfound experienced eyes judge to be good.
