When I discovered that occasionally hitsounds add onto maps I really liked that, so currently I decided to play with every maps custom hitsounds unless they play terrible. It's really nice, and Ive found some really nice maps with hitsounds with it! I'd be sad to see those ideas gone.

yeah, i started doing the same. i have all the hitsounds turned on, UNLESS they are actually horrible or i'm really tryharding a score. you can find some real gems here and there and it makes the maps feel a lot more unique.

what they said about the clack clack hitsounds really struck me because I can't stand them. hitsounds are a huge part of what made the game fun for me

It was really sad to see people playing with those "clacking" hitsounds when you spend so much time on hitsounds. Alternating between soft and normal hs was really time consuming, since before you had to manually add the green line every time you wanted to change normal/soft. But I can't really blame people for using those "clacking" hs, it's their choice. Normal whistle also was a big thing for me. I loved normal whiste since I heard how James uses it. I understand how it can be annoying and easily overused, but it was so fun to do rhythms with it.

I ALWAYS play with other map's hitsounds, one of my mapper friends utilizes a completely silent hitsoft on sliderends, leaving only the sliderhead with audible sound, if you disabled custom hitsounds then that effect would be completely ruined as a result.

Re: additive hitsounding - I'm not sure if this is the chronological "origin" of it, but Al-Azif's BOOZEHOUND is the first time it really stood out to me as something elevating the song above what it already had to offer. Generally, him(?), Alace and darrihuka were some huge stylistic influences around the 2009 era style imo (aside from the super obvious).

U showed me a lot of things for mapping help but the most helpful thing i learned is actually something that u never talked about and it isnt even mapping. Using a big cursor so will need to put the whole cursor in the circle to be really accurate. I've been using a big cursor for around 1 week now and i have sooo much more accuracy with kind of everything. Thanks. for the mapping stuff too.
