Taken from seat 4L onboard AA969 from MIA-DFW. Crank up the volume and listen to those Rolls Royce Trent 892 scream to life and power out of Miami for the short flight to Dallas.

The greatest thrust required and most fuel consumed is at take off working to lift over 300 tons of load off the ground, once that’s established and maintained, full throttle is no longer needed. Engines were not designed to remain at full power for a long time rather than it will reduce their life time. The higher the plane flies the faster it goes through the air particles and less fuel it burns for one reason. Air is so thin at higher altitudes. It’s just physics put into art.

Moved out of Miami twenty years ago, but for more than twenty years before that move, i flew out of MIA regularly. That view crossing the coastline at BIscayne Bay is still special, but many more tall buildings are now downtown, more complex expressways are now operating, and that town is far gone in memory. Landing east or west, it is still georgous, and i have seen so many stupendous clouds from my cockpit. Hard to believe i got paid to fly. BEautiful city- far too damn crowded. Once was flying out of JFK to heathrow on a 777. As soon as the engines spooled up for take off the pilot suddenly did an RTO and even with my seatbelt on, my face still hit the small screen infront of me 😂😂...Then we hear the flaps extending and went off again.

Thrust reduction happens with and without noise abatement. The only difference is when the reduction and the acceleration for flap retraction happen. Engines are not designed to maintain take off thrust for a long time.

@@samanthaanne246 Long Ago a flew AA 10 hours non stop in the most ratty economy seat possible and the noise was insane, like almost the plane was about to fall appart. Not joking. I couldnt get 10 minutes of sleep. Very noisy cabin. Probably interiors were not dampening the sound properly I dont know. It was a 777. On the retunr one, there was a cracking sound everytime the wing flexed bad due to tubulence. I know that is not the wing, just plastics moving ... still it was like a joke. I love this beasty sound, but 10 hours onboard with -10 legroom you start to hate everything. I them took a 3 hour combination in a pretty old AA jet, probably a 737, leg room was like a mansion. I feel asleep like a baby, much quieter jet. Probably I was exhausted too .... If I need to fly again to US ... AA is out of the list. I would rather fly Iberia.

As soon as the plane lifts off and heads toward the clouds, I tear up and feel a sense of the Lord. Not sad or fear at all but probably looking at the world from a different perspective. I only fly once a year or so for the last 25 of my 55 years but I still enjoy the flight.

Aircraft take off at 28 seconds almost without exception. High altitude may add a few seconds. But from the time the engines spool up and the beast starts its roll, count 28 seconds, and it's off. Years ago I flew on a Mexican DC6 (prop) from Mexico City to Merida. Mexico City's airport is at 7300', and the props don't have the power of the jets. That plane rolled on and on and on to the extent I thought we were going to taxi all the way to Merida! Eventually, it developed lift and the pilot yanked the wheels off when we were about 10 feet off the ground! The end of the runway passed beneath us. Gawd what a nail biter.

@palonazo
@palonazo 7 жыл бұрын
ron oswald I meant what you said makes no sense. You said you can't see the wings because you can only flex metal so much till it breaks. As if material stress depended on you seeing it happen. Airplane wings can flex A LOT. In fact, far more than the most extreme flight conditions would ever bend them. They're tested. Also, nobody cares if you fly first or coach.
@FredtheDorfDorfman1985
@FredtheDorfDorfman1985 5 жыл бұрын
@@palonazo yea, in testing they clamp a test wing's root into a large clamp, and use a large hydrolic piston to bend the wing tip up until finally around an upward bend angle of about 70 degrees the wing spar fails with a loud bang! The whole test rig jumps and shutters when it happens. That's a lot of flex and energy that it takes to break a modern airliner wing, especially if it includes titanium and composites that flex more easily than aluminum. That's why new aircraft development costs so much money. Test wings to bend and break, fuselages and windows to blow up for pressure, decompression, and bird strike tests, and landing gear to slam down on hard touchdown test rigs. Just like the engine industry taking expensive turbofan engines and destroying them in blade out tests to see if the casing contains the loose blade(s), ya have to know what it takes to destroy an aircraft/engine so you'll know if they'll be safe.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but in nearly all of these takeoff videos on different channels, the camera stays centered on the engine. On some videos it takes up almost all of the frame. Are the photographers not interested in the scenery? The engines are just sitting there and not going anywhere
@FlyHighPhotography
@FlyHighPhotography 7 жыл бұрын
MrCrapmatic not a dumb question at all in my opinion! I can say for me, my focus, or passion if you will is for the airplane. The scenery is secondary for me and a plus in some cases but not all that important. With that said, sometimes the scenery ties into what is going on with the airplane, I guess a good example would be like landing into St. Maarten and seeing Maho Beach from the plane. Seeing the plane from an engineers perspective working the way it was designed it pretty cool too, watching the wing flex and the engine move on the pylon, extremely geeky just but still kinda cool. In the end though the focus is still the plane. It's a little strange I'll admit but it's just one of those things.

The KLM stopped in ATL and almost all pax disembarked. Change of crew as well. Between ATL and DFW, I was the only person in First Class. There were two pax in Business, and a smattering in Coach. The plane probably had very little fuel aboard. The pilot put the pedal to the metal, and that plane rolled about ten feet then shot into the air like a fighter. The acceleration was phenomenal! It felt like we were going 500mph before the end of the runway. Exhilarating!

it's amazing to think he is carrying 2 737 under each wing. the engines are the same diameter as the 737 fuselage.

It is a powerful engine on the Boeing 777-223(ER). But many planes have 2 engines, but the A340, A380, and 747 have 4 Engines.

I can remember the days when the pilots didn’t instruct the cabin crew to be seated for landing or takeoff...and some were standing:walking during both. 🤷‍♂️

@@FlyHighPhotography the pilots clearly state that when they're about to take off they tell all passengers and flight crew to fasten their seat belts at all times standing and walking during takeoff is against safety protocol

@FlyHighPhotography
@FlyHighPhotography 7 жыл бұрын
Herbert Carillo I just use my iPhone 6S and to keep it stable I basically hold the phone in my hands keeping my hands as a buffer between the window and the camera. If you don't do that, and just push the camera against the window, you'll pick up all the awful vibrations. Hope that helps/makes sense!
