This would probably be a better film if the entire story between King and DDP had been a Worked Shoot, and the two main characters found out at the last minute and were forced to learn to grow up. From what I understand, DDP actually tried to get that ending but the writers went through with this...thing.

So lemme get this straight...this movie not only bombed in the box office, but the PR stunt with David also killed the Slamboree PPV? man, WCW were efficient in burning money.
@joebagano4730
@joebagano4730 10 жыл бұрын
I think in this case burning money is far less of a problem than burning your own fanbase and basically begging them to either go over to Vince or just stop watching altogether. Both the movie and the Arquette stunt are saying "Our product is a joke and you are stupid piece of shit for ever having enjoyed it!" That's just... baffling, to be honest. I'm not a marketing genius or anything, but it should be common sense to avoid actively alienating your customer base.

I was a kid when this came out, and I loved it. I watched this review last night and it got me to thinking "Why did I like this movie so much?" And I have an answer now. I NEVER watched WCW. In her storyline with Alexa Bliss Bayley was portrayed much like the wrestling fans in this film and for some reason during said storyline WWE portrayed her watching wrestling when she was younger as a bad thing. What sense does a wrestling show portraying watching wrestling as a bad thing make? That was also the feud where her character was portrayed as a womanchild who didn't want to hurt people despite being a wrestler where the entire point is hurting people. "I don't want to put bruises on people's backs. I want to put smiles on their faces" my ass.

Rewatching this can’t help but notice how many top Hollywood actors (whether from a star point or an acting point) were in this. Rose McGowan and Arquette from Scream obviously, McGowan later on doing great in Planet Terror amongst other things, Joey Pantoliano from The Matrix, Memento, Bad Boys, Oliver Platt had a decent role in X-Men First Class amongst other films, Scott Caan, son of Jimmy from The Godfather, also had a decent role in Enemy of the State. Amazing they were all attracted to feature in this shit. (Which either means they were paid a lot or they really value their friendship with Arquette, the only true wrestling fan.)

TheKatanarama Still boggles my fucking mind he's gone. He's the only wrestler that has passed that actually shook me up a little.

The best wrestling movie that could be made in my opinion, is Mick Foley’s Have a Nice Day. The book has humor, drama, triumph. Everything.

Jim Crockett promotions did the tower of doom cage match back in the 80s with Kevin Sullivan and the Road Warriors and a few others, you can look it up.

Funny you mention Hart and "The WCW" line. Looking at Joey Pants' costume is giving me Lonesome Dove vibes .

Sylverias There was some interview I remember seeing (I think it was with Lesnar) where some fan wanted him to bodyslam him, Lesnar kept saying "no", but the fan just wouldn't let up. So finally Lesnar bodyslamed him and the fan was in honest to god agony.

IMO DDP is the underrated star of this movie. Puts in a great performance in a leading role.

A heads-up that you can now watch this movie for free on KZbin but honestly there was really no point in me doing that before watching this as the lads were 100% funnier and more entertaining in this review than the actual movie. Well done!

I just noticed something. Michael Buffer didn't say his line. He said "we are ready to rumble"... was that to avoid paying him to do the line???

This movie is special - it was not included in the sale of WCW to WWE. Warner still owns the rights to it. It's a little bit of WCW that hasn't been ruined.
