I just rewatched this and I have a logic problem with nature (trees, wind, rain, any other Captain Planet forces) killing people in groups. The zookeeper, the soldier and the old lady die BY THEMSELVES as opposed to large groups (the zoo audience, either group in the field, Marky & Zooey). I'm also with you as they were surrounded by wind. There's three directions of wind in the scene you guys argued for 20+ minutes.

After recently finding your channel and watching an absolute shedload of your Wrasslin vids, I decided to give this a go hoping that there would be some kind of 'wind' conversation involved. :D I remember the good doctor Mark Kermode finished his review of this all those years ago by posing the question ' What's causing the wind?' ... I think it's quite simple. M. Knight isn't intending to infer that the wind is inherently evil or 'in on it'. It's just a case of incredibly bad filmmaking decisions that led to that being a necessary inference. Bottom line: he needed a way to make plants menacing...cinematically. And to do that he needed them to at least seem to be an offensive threat rather than a passive one....and to do that he needed them to move, and the only way you can make plants move is with wind. And so an ill-thought out premise, becomes a multi-million dollar turkey with a plot hole you could fly Red Dwarf through. (kudos on the Despair Squid ref) :)

Shamalamayan films are well shot and have some great set pieces to ramp up tension and that fear, better than anything else I've watched for a while. His ideas are also pretty cool. He hasn't written a full storey or an engaging script since sixth sense and you can't enjoy something that thinks its Citizen Kane when its actually ended up being The Leprechaun. As for Marky Mark and Zooey, they just didn't give a shit because the script was shite. Fair play on them for half arseing it and not caring about their characters because no-one else was going to by the end of the film.
@lilypalm57928 жыл бұрын
So, in reference to the two winds, what could have happen is that one wind has the toxin and the other doesn't, and the two winds kind of balanced out the toxins thats why it didnt affect them
@zumzum747 жыл бұрын
The very first interpretation I get with the wind scene is that it's being specifically manipulated. Either the wind itself is doing it on it's own or being manipulated by the plants but OOC is definitely wrong. /Something/ is manipulating the wind to trap them

My take on the Wind thing is following and i think its hard to argue with that: Plants are living organisms. Wind is not so therefore its just random. BUT there is one thing that can maybe explain the "Wind is on it" Theory. You know how you can throw a rock in a pond and the ripples start coming from the Impact Zone (see what i did there?) So "nature" could start attempt to manipulate the wind to behave like this to some extent. But i thinki its highly unlikely. Im with OOC on this one, its just bad writing.

Trees can help change and move wind not only because they are solid, but also because of temperature changes caused by being alive and the things trees do. Also i would say that most of the movie would look like a slide show if it didn't include the wind. I would conclude that the wind is in on it,but i would add that moisture is the true culprit. water.

I heard Signs was originally written to be demons rather than aliens, and honestly? The movie makes 10X more sense from that perspective. Lack of visible technology. Falling from the Heavens. Abducting people for unknown reasons. Harmed by "blessed" water (the little girl is referred to as angelic repeatedly through the movie). Normally I don't put much in "fan theories," but this one just flat-out works. And might be legit, but I can't recall...

He was Nicolas Cage hammy in this movie, and rightfully so. What was M. Night Shyamalan thinking? Then again, what is he ever thinking when decides to make a movie? Also, why is Zooey Deschanel the only one wearing a coat, and why is Mark's ring so gigantic? It was super distracting. Just random observations Speaking of awful movies, have any of you guys ever seen the The Room? If not, you should check them out someday; it's amazing!
