Well I grew up in the mid 90's and I still tried that shit at home despite them telling me not to. I remember pretty much every single submission hurting like the Walls of Jericho. Just the move that seemed to hurt my brother the most out of all the moves I would force him to take. Was the Cunt version of the Pedigree where you hold their arms the entire way down making it so they have no way of protecting their face. Also probably didn't help that I hit him with it on a hard carpet floor. Just remember him instantly crying and lying on the ground for about 20min.

It's just your never gonna put that move on unless someone lets you or you knock them the F out before putting it on. Bull was amazing and one of the best, but not ahead of her time. It's really just the difference between US-wrestling and Japanese wrestling. Early- to mid-90s women's wrestling in Japan was incredible, because only the best survived the dojos and actually became wrestlers. Alundra Blayze was one of if not THE most prominent female US-wrestler in the 90s and she was fucking shit compared to even low-level midcarders in AJW.

@@JeremiahEcks777 Yea it makes me wish she was in her prime today. As imagine her in Black and Gold era of NXT she would have been amazing same if she got called up to the main roster and was used correctly. She would be a monster heel who could actually work as well as anyone on the roster. As opposed to Nia Jax who's just shit in the ring. Like imagine Bull vs Asuka, Rhea, Becky or Bianca those matches would be amazing. It also makes me feel really bad for women like Molly Holly, Ivory, Victoria and Beth Phoenix women who were great wrestlers but were around either during the attitude era where they could barely get screen time and when they did it was like 5min shit matches where they would have to put over someone like Sable or fucking Moolah or were around during the Diva era where again they struggled to get any time and were usually working with women who could barely wrestle.
@JeremiahEcks777 Жыл бұрын
@@wisewolftony Molly, Ivory and especially Victoria / Tara are three very underrated performers. Molly is particularly underrated I think. But Bull Nakano is just a forgotten beast. Crisp in the ring, a strong character and genuinely unnerving presentation. I didn't think much at the time as she was placed alongside Alundra who herself was presented as a bland and boring white meat baby face and the women' matches weren't particularly given any focus. Now in my older years, now I've seen good women's wrestling, I can appreciate the technical work of people like Nakano, Alundra / Madusa, Aja Kong, Sensational Sherri, Leilani Kai, the Jumping Bomb Angels, Luna Vachon, Velvet McIntyre and Heidi Lee Morgan. I would watch a match with any of those amazing women. Other more modern day women like Lita, Trish, Chyna, Awesome Kong, Gail Kim or the Four Horsewomen deserve a lot of the praise they get but women like Jacqueline, Ivory, Molly, Victoria, Christy Hemme (Not for her WWE work but her willingness to improve), Jazz, Marlena (for understanding the business), Tori, Daphne, Trinity, Rosemary, and others, often get forgotten. And they don't deserve to.

@Pineappolis Жыл бұрын
@@thepassingstatic6268 It definitely would have been the smartest thing to do if Diesel _has_ to be champion but I still don't think it would have worked. Nash at this point in his career just wasn't good enough at pretty much anything required of a babyface champion, particularly one who'd had a sudden face turn, at this point. You could get away with not being a great or even good technical wrestler in the old days but, at this stage (and this is going to sound insane at first), he probably had less charisma as a babyface than Bret. Better talker? Sure, but still not great (yet) and far more comfortable as a heel. More natural in front of the camera? Absolutely but that's a low, low bar. But Bret had an earnestness that made him so believable and almost turned his weaknesses into strengths because he came across like a real sports star who can often be like that. Diesel as a babyface was so... "plastic," for want of a better description, in his promos because he didn't have the acting chops to make them seem remotely sincere that I just don't see anyone buying them. Maybe if his face turn had been less sudden? Hard to say. EDIT: Sidebar but what I was saying feels like Vince's whole problem during this era in microcosm. He thought looking the part and having the generic charisma to fake being being a jerk or a swell guy as required was enough. Wildly underestimated the importance of believability, in-ring and out, to the fans. As stupid as that sounds given an undead wizard was one of the most over guys on the roster, silly gimmicks are fine _if_ you have the theatricality in you not to break people's suspension of disbelief.

I wish McMahon could have ran with Backlund as champion for a length of time. Imagine a zero to crazy old generation champion running roughshod through the new generation until he was finally taken down. That would have put the new generation over big time and gave them legitimacy.
@grahamcusick4294 жыл бұрын
I think you have a great point in that. It'd have to be a single new gen wrestler and win clean. Commentators could make a big point of going into the new gen, saying how times are changing and the new generation aren't sitting by quietly, something like that.
@planescaped4 жыл бұрын
Could've made Backlund a WWF version of Ric Flair. His "character" could have been that of a legendary old-timer who was unbeatable. Instant top heel that would've fit right in to the new-gen. As I am sure most people then wouldn't have remembered he had come back awhile ago. Instead they kill the idea dead.

To answer how all 5 Teamsters got counted out, there is a rule (though not at all heavily enforced) that the non-legal man in a tag match must stay at their designated corner until they are either tagged or the match concludes. If they leave their designated corner, they have a 10-count to get back to their corner or they are counted out. It's up there with the "you can only interrupt a pin once, after that it's a DQ" rule in that it exists, but nobody ever seems to follow it.

Bruce would have made it a flaming dumpster fire, allowing his sibling jealousy for Bret to overshadow a great story and the potential to do excellent business. Bret was right on the money to insist on Owen. Owen was far better in-ring, far more entertaining on the mic, and was obviously a far more gracious and humble performer, understanding that the back and forth between them built them BOTH. I can't help thinking that Bruce would take every chance to try to get over on Bret- even if it didn't make sense. Thanks to Bret, we got a truly fantastic arc.

That Diesel promo was soooooo bad and explains a lot about why he didn't draw. I saw that and thought of babyface Roman Reigns. I swear Hulk had more edge (he'd cheat and hot dog). Lex came off as a buffoon, Diesel became so lame as a babyface. HBK was always better as a heel. Austin and Rock were so refreshing.

I never realized as a kid, but if Owen had been legit concerned about Bret, he could have thrown Backlund's towel in and just cost Backlund the match. Him trying to convince his parents to throw in Bret's was some great foreshadowing to the fact that he didn't actually care about Bret. Seems obvious as an adult but as a 13 year old I was shocked. But then again, I was rooting for Backlund anyway.

Seeing Duckarse calling Pettengill ‘young man’ hit a little too close to home. My little brother and I went to a house show in Hershey back in like ‘00 or so. Not sure the exact year, but we saw a yet-to-debut-on-Raw Bautista, along with Big Show vs. Prince Albert, Test, Trish, and the like. I’m scrawny 16 with a peach-fuzz goatee, my brother is like 12. Anyway we have floor seats and the show hasn’t started yet, we’re just standing there and I look across the way and see Duckarse standing there! Did a double take - White shirt, red suspenders, bowtie, red hair, Duckarse in full geared glory! Well after 2 minutes or so he hasn’t really moved, just pacing around a bit and I have no clue why the crowd isn’t all over him. Now I knew for sure who he was, and call me naive at that age but I knew Bob was a screaming, raving, lunatic from days of watching this 90’s era WWF. So I get up my nerve and I tell my brother let’s go get his autograph on our programs.. Us 2 kids walk over to this 6’1” mountain of a maniac and sweetly ask for his autograph. He looks down at me and says “Young man, I’m running for Congress and I’m giving out my autograph for funds towards my campaign, would you like to donate $20?” and stares me dead in the eye for my response. FOK! My stomach sank, cold sweat appears immediately, what do I do? Say no to him, your signature isn’t worth my $20? Will he snap? Scream at me and my brother? Put my in the CROSSFACE CHICKENWING?! As he keeps staring, I mumble ‘yeah, ok’, slowly and shakily fish into my pocket for my cash and hand it over as tribute to his budding political career. HE takes the bill, not his associate or campaign liaison mind you, and puts it in his own pocket. He hands me a pre-signed picture of him (I hadn’t noticed but he was holding a stack), says thank you and then strolls off. After that the hairs that were standing up on the back of my neck went down, the smell of unbridled fear dissipated, we went to our seats to watch the show with the picture folded up in my back pocket. Where that autograph ended up I’ll never know, but I think that just the same as Virgil’s $10, Duckarse’s $20 at least gave me a good story.

This show brings to an end Bret's 2 most signature title reigns, and he's still only had one PPV main event! You can sort of see why he was getting pissed!
@DLRX4 жыл бұрын
@Bubba Sawyer It's sad really, after RR95 he has what he calls his worst Mania match ever against Backlund (the hilariously bad/sad I Quit Match which was their blowoff), has great matches with Hakushi (before he's turned into a jobber), feuds with Lawler and his dentist, feuds with a pirate for stealing his jacket, finally beats Diesel for his 3rd world title but can't celebrate the moment because he's completely beaten down by Nash post match, and closes the year by having a great match with Bulldog. Bret did the best he could with what he was given but it all just serves as another reason why 1995 WWF was the one of the worst. And Bruce Pritchard is the shady used car salesman of wrestling with a lip print permanently on Vince McMahon's ass.

I'm confused. Bret has has many PPV main events
@alexsamurai12304 жыл бұрын
@@christophersuswal9544 It's not necessarily that Bret didn't amass a fair number of PPV main events over his long career, its that this event really marks the point where the window closed on him being the top guy / face of the company. During his 2 reigns, the PPVs were heavily promoted around entirely different matches, and rather than closing out the show, stood triumphant with championship in hand, Bret was left defending the title in the mid-card. My argument is that in comparison with guys like Hogan, Warrior, and Diesel, who headlined every big show as the champ, Bret was never given that same faith. He was always treated as a bit of a stopgap while Vince searched around for his next big thing.

LMAO I live in South Alabama, USA, the birthplace of Mardi Gras, the theme colors of which are green, purple, and gold. A major aspect of Mardi Gras is that every parade is put on by a parading society, with a formal ball to follow the parade. There's a specific society that has a woman who wears a "gown" made of Crown Royal bags every single year. I could absolutely see the Gigolo as her date😂😂😂😂🤣🤣
