Regarding the voltage regulator it is indeed useful for scart tvs like you said. As pin 8 should have on the output 9 to 12v for automatic switching to the scart input with the display in a 4:3 ratio mode (5v on that pin usually triggers the change to a 16:9) this is usually not needed is just for convenience. On pin 16 it needs 1 to 3 volts to force the TV to RGB mode (so there should be a resistor after the voltage regulator if it is a 7805 for attenuation like is required for most scart cables). From what you showed it looks like that with a power supply you could use RCA cables to feed the switch and output the video with a scart cable and have the pin 16 with the proper voltage.

They must be under the weather bc of all the bad stuff going on this year, and HK a special case with extra trouble besides the Rona,, but at least they still breathing, and yes their switch rocks, for the price it is a much, MUCH better purchase than any of the insane 200+ bucks indie switches, I'd rather buy 2x Otaku switches if I needed more than 6 inputs, rather than a single of those fancy automatic ones. The only thing the Otaku needs is a better, slimmer casing, but a DIY is no big deal, I'll make one ASAP.

noting the comment at 4:59... could you get away with doubling up SCART/RCA on one input slot as long as only one console was powered on at at time? Or is that still a bad idea? Currently I am mixing and matching on this switch and it's working out great. GameCube component, SNES SCART and PS2 SCART going into different inputs... SCART to BNC going out into a PVM. Works perfectly! Only asking the above question because I'm gonna end up with 6 SCART devices + 1 component when my shopping is done. Might have to settle for a "manual switch" here and there! Or heck, maybe Dreamcast can settle for S-Video since the PVM has a separate input available for it... but I digress. Thanks again for the great video!

Respectfully, you're both fully understanding and "not getting it" at the same time. The purpose of the two outputs is for people to choose what's easiest for them to use, EITHER the RCA or SCART outputs. What you're suggesting is not the intended use. Hi! Thanks for this video, really informative! I was wondering what I'd need if I'm planning on inputting SCART RGB and using RCA to output to a GBS Control, which has RGBS (or SOG) inputs. It seems like no one's really selling RGBS male-to-male cables? I could only find ones for specific consoles.

@@RetroRGB Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for the same signal over RCA, so that I can input SCART to the switch but output RGB over RCA instead of the SCART out. Basically, if I'm understanding correctly, I'm looking for something similar to what's shown in 9:48 just without the BNC connectors, if that's possible (as I'd be using the GBS-C's RGBS RCA inputs instead of a PVM or a CRT). Here's hoping I'm not terribly confused here.
@RetroRGB6 ай бұрын
Well, I think the GBS-C only accepts RGBs over the dsub, not RCA connectors. But if so, you can just use a SCART to BNC cable with some cheap adapters: www.amazon.com/dp/B01420D28K www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sony-av-accessories/sony-pvm/male-rgb-break-out-scart-to-4-x-bnc--2-x-rca-converter-cable?tracking=5543fb4c077bb

Isin't that voltage regulator part of some kind rgb to yuv converting unit. Guessing that because on their page Otaku says you need power supply: 'Additionally to the regular 6 Port Scart Switch it has RCA RGB inputs on all 6 inputs. It is also usable as a Component Switch but needs to have a power supply connected to work in that mode. Please be aware that only standard size Scart connectors fit on this variant as shown in the product pictures.' But as I said, it's only my guess. And to be honest doubt power supply is needed for scart, because if consol is not feeding scart with voltage tv won't set into rgb mode but should have composite video insted.
@RetroRGB4 жыл бұрын
There is absolutely no RGB to YUV conversion going on on this switch.
@djrkzr4 жыл бұрын
@@RetroRGB my bad, so got no idea why it needs voltage regulator, cap, and resistors.
@RetroRGB4 жыл бұрын
I asked them the same question and still can't really understand why either. I THINK it's for TV's that need voltage to switch between composite and RGB modes. If you're using a scaler or RGB monitor, it should work without power though.

Any good place to buy quality male to make scart cable with 0.5m lenght in europe?
It passes through whatever you send it, but it won't convert the signal.

If you only have two consoles and don't need two outputs, then my recommendation is yes, start with this switch and see if it works for you. If you need dual-output, you'd need the gcomp though.

Audio dual output is totally safe. Video dual output is NOT safe...including even having more than one video output connected, even if the 2nd target is powered off. If you're a nerd like me, here's a full description of why using audio with a Y circuit is safe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ennScmWsi7-bbrM

The better more worthwhile solutions unmentioned are: 1. Autoswitching with the Hydra or gscartsw. 2. 6scart IR-Remote controller switching with the Shinybow 6:2 SCART. 3. The big ass Extron Crosspoint Switcher TOUCHSCREEN Remote Control (iPad, Android, etc.).

I have two Bandridge mechanical switches daisy-chained together and attached to one another via velcro command strips. That gives me 9 ports and works flawlessly. They were $50 each (although one was a gift) plus another $20 for the 2 male to male Scart cables needed to chain them together and hook them to the Framemeister. Only downside is you have to take them apart and cut a trace on their board because they leak power into other systems. Once you do that you're set.
