Netero technically never beat Meruem with his own power either. That bomb was surgically inserted into his body as a fail safe in case he was gonna lose, which he did. With his own power, he couldn’t even match Pitou. This makes Gon’s transformation even more impressive.

The netero after his training recouped a bunch of his strength. Remember hes been inactive for 15 years, and has not trained or done anything worthwhile, plus he was continuing to age. His age at this point is near 300 years. and ON TOP of that as well he himself said he was less than half his original strength. When he trained he got back to around half of his original strength. Netero dusts pitou after his training.

Cool thing about HXH is that power level doesn't matter in a fight for example uvogin vs kurapika and gon vs genthru. Also it doesn't matter how much stronger you are and how good are you techniques because someone out there had an ability to perfectly counter or kill you instantly like nanika

even with less half of his prime, netero is way stronger than any royal guard, but he prefer to say he is not and avoid fight to kill queen, maybe inspired by goku vs fat buu, goku said he dont know if he can kill fat buu to avoid others to count on him... when he started fighting kid buu he warned bejita that he could have kill fat buu easy. we know that HxH is inspired by DBZ
