The first time I heard this song (which was the first time I ever saw and heard OTEP), I was mere weeks away from escaping my abuser. I was a s-x sl-ve from 14 to 19. If I ever meet Otep Shamaya, I’m gonna let her know she’s what planted the seed of what fueled my courage to finally risk it all to get away. I drove 12 hours straight to California in the middle of the night. I played “Rose” by APC and scream cried and ROARED the words the whole time. I wanted to turn back so many times cuz I was scared shitless but Maynard kept singing “I ROSE, I ROARED…” That’s when my Lion Mentality (as I call it) was born. About a year later I found this song again (Blood Pigs) when I had the freedom to listen to whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I’ve been blasting OTEP regularly ever since. I am 36 almost 37 as I write this. If I didn’t have music, I wouldn’t be alive today. ART SAVES! SEVAS TRA FOREVER!

@@俺は誰でもない I turned him in and wasn’t believed by the police. I was arrested for False Report to a police officer. I was 18 when I turned him in, and I had proof that I was living there as a minor, but they still didn’t believe me. It was “some crazy story” according to them. So crazy it “couldn’t be true” they said. There’s documentaries and investigations being done about that exact BS that cops do to young women. It’s easier to charge a girl with False Report than to do an entire investigation, apparently. I truly thought I was the only one until I stumbled upon a Netflix doc about it a few months ago. That bad man STILL contacts me to this day saying he shouldn’t have let me get away and I was the best thing he’s ever had. It’s been almost 20 fkn years and he makes new FB accounts to msg me from cuz I block him every time. I have a folder saved on my hard drive with ALL the stuff he sends me and I email everything to my best friend cuz I bought gun. I will be armed with proof up to the DA’s eyeballs that he’s been stalking me ever since I escaped. I wish this man no harm because I have learned compassion is the only way we will ever progress as human beings, but I won’t let him touch me ever again. If he tries to break into my house (like he did 18 years ago), I will not ask questions. I learned the hard way that sometimes you really MUST put yourself first. Because I can’t call the cops on him ever again thanks to that False Report arrest. The DA who prosecuted me was the same DA that refused to let Daniel Villegas free (an innocent man who was wrongfully convicted of murder as a teenage boy). He was recently released (FINALLY!). The corruption runs deep in my city’s Law Enforcement, but thankfully he’s no longer our DA. That documentary is called “Victim/Suspect” on Netflix. What happened to those poor girls is EXACTLY what happened to me when I tried to get help. This is exactly why I fled the state and didn’t just go to a different town. I wanted a new life where I wasn’t seen as some liar (honesty really matters to me).

Otep always has meaningful lyrics with a great delivery vocally, but we have to give Moke or however you say the drummer's name a ton of credit!! He is the one that is ridiculously underrated! I haven't really heard another drummer with as many different influences in his playing making his sound so unique! Otep was telling about his influences in an interview and mentioned five or six that he tries to incorporate in his style, and still loves to try to learn more and keep exploring which is unusual since the band has been in the game a while!
@IDontKnow-wf7vu8 жыл бұрын

@nevadacampbell48598 жыл бұрын
I Don't Know 0123456789 I agree that Bug is underrated, but I don't think that any member of the Deftones would be considered underrated! If anything, some of the members would be considered overrated because the 'tones have been put up on a pedistool and respected by all in the music world!
@nevadacampbell48598 жыл бұрын
I Don't Know 0123456789 Also, if this is the only song you listen to of theirs, then you need to give some more songs another listen or listen to them for the first time because they have some great songs! This is a band that tries all different methods of combining instruments, mixing totally different influences in one the same beat which means nothing ever sounds the same for the most part! I suggest listening to Crooked Spoons, that is one hell of a unique song! The Lord is My Weapon is a interesting song with killer screams, and most everybody loves the beat to the song Smash the Control Machine!
@IDontKnow-wf7vu8 жыл бұрын
Nevada Campbell I agree everyone respects Deftones, but they're far from being mainstream, so I'd still say they're underrated, because lots of people don't know they exist.

Aww the memories, thanks to my friend Vito who went to Ozzfest the year this album came out and handed it to me and said,"Put it in and just let it play" From that day forward I have been a fan and will always be and I am still listening in 2019. Thanks Vito 🤘🎸

I remember the first time I heard this...my jaw dropped at that first scream. I was like...that's a chick on vocals?!?!? I know there was probably some editing work done on the vocals in studio but it's still nuts how a girl can scream with such a low and deep vocal like this.

(Used) (Blood pigs) (Blood pigs) I'm sorry I'm ugly All that I am and I can never live up I'm failing, I'm angry Afraid of the ways they pretend to be us It's fucked up, I'm different Words remain my only escape Art saves all of me Evolving And now you're walking away! I'm so afraid And now you're walking away! I'm so ashamed And now you're walking away! Map mange ou sans sel (voodoo curse) My mistake was trusting you Blood pigs with creating my fate With poetry and suffering I cannibalized every ounce of my pain I'm still afraid, everyday These greedy worms, they devour my plagues I'm not your slave, I'm conquering You see me rise And now you're walking away! I'm not ashamed! And now you're walking away! I am not afraid! And now you're walking away! (Bridge & tunnel) You can't hurt me anymore You can't hurt me anymore Fed from the wound from which we were bled Vomiting filth in our soft cave heads Chewing on tissue, tendon and fat Destroying the things they do not understand! Tyrant Betrayer Parasite Traitor! ...And still you feed them ...And still you need them I'm sorry, I'm ugly Dangerous can't describe it enough I'm failing, I'm angry I use my fear to empower my hate I'm fucked up, I'm different Words remain my only escape Art saves all of me Evolving And now you're walking away! I'm not ashamed And now you're walking away I'm not afraid And now you're walking away! And now you're walking away! And now you're walking away! Map mange ou sans sel(voodoo curse) My mistake was trusting you! Blood pigs, with creating my fate! With poetry and suffering I cannibalized every ounce of my pain I'm still afraid every day You still suckle my plagues I'm not your fucking slave So why're you walking away? Blood pig! Why're you walking away???

The setup that they had outside the Key Club Show in Los Angeles the year that they released this album is the most memorable of any in my mind of the Sunset Strip. The tall sarcophagus-like statues with light beaming from them persists in my mind to this day, and I am happy about that! And the album makes me feel like I am witnessing (or even in) a rocket launching when I play it. Thanks for the ride!

The feeling I get when I hear this song (and listen to the whole album) really is similar to what I remember feeling as a kid after stepping off a roller coaster. Seriously. A Big 💯%👍!

Met this band at a small venue called Jester's pub in Fayetteville, NC, along with Mushroomhead and Suicide City (bar is sadly gone), and the hotel party was so fun! Getting to interact with the real humans behind this awesome music was inspiring, and also a reality check as I refuse to commit to use my talents publicly with a contract. It's a real struggle to live their way of life, so appreciate their sacrifices to bring you great music

I don't think I've seen such a massive vocal range on a metal singer. She can do all the regular high female vocals you'd expect as well as get as low on the scream as any guy. So cool.
