Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZbin, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZbin. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZbin, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. This song is a classic of classics. Otis died before the song was released, because the studio kept tinkering with it, long after Otis singing was completed. Everyone above 50 knows this song. It's just one of those songs, like Sinatra's New York New York, even little kids know and have heard somewhere on a tv show, radio, or movie. Thank you Shawn Keep on truckin' Brother!

This was the last song I heard before I walked into a treatment facility for help to stop drinking which had kicked my ass. I had a loneliness few others would know, a line from the Big Book of AA. That was over 36 years ago. No more loneliness and I have a life beyond my dreams. This song will forever remain in my heart.

Loved Otis great singer. The BeeGees wrote To Love Somebody. For Otis sadly he past before he could record it. So the BeeGees recorded it. Beautiful Song

Steve Cropper is still alive and recording. He’s the guitar player for so many Stax/ Volt classics (and for the Blues Brothers, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd) and also wrote or co-wrote many of them. Otis walked in the studio one day and asked for an audition. Steve Cropper listened to him sing “These Arms Of Mine”, then got the boss and made sure they signed Otis up. I don’t know if Otis knew his time was short, but they say he had a sadness about him, and always, once he had it, carried large amounts of cash. They also say his ghost haunts the lakeshore where the plane crashed.

Love Otis Redding nicknamed the "King of Soul". Sadly he died in 1967 in a plane crash at only the age of 26. But he left us some beautiful music. "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" is one of my all time favorite songs. Other hits he had were "These Arms Of Mine", "Try A Little Tenderness", "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long" etc.

This song has always touched my heart. My mom died in 1966 and I was 9 years old. This song was somehow comforting and soothing. It remains a favorite of mine all this time later. It's like an old friend

Steve Cropper was an amazing musician whose career spanned decades. As part of Booker T and the MG's, and backup on many Stax recordings he helped create American rock. I know you don't usually do videos, but if you want to see him in the 80's check out the Blues Bros. cover of "Soul Man" (which Steve played on the original version). He's the lead guitarist on the left.

Otis often recorded with the band Booker T. and the MG’s (follow the rabbit) two of the members Steve Cropper and Duck Dune joined. The Blues Brothers (guitar and bass). At the start, a sign “Stax” was a studio, in converted theatre, in Memphis. A lot of great music recorded at that studio.

This is what is so different and so endearing about you. Most people would simply say "oh, he's dead" and be done with it. But you try to understand the life of these artists who died long before you were born in order to put a person to the voice, to the song, to the music, to better understand it all. That is searching for the humanity in music. That's a level of thoughtfulness that most people don't bother with. I love it because it's a way to bring them back to life in our minds, to try to "meet" the artist, even if it's only for a few minutes. Their music will never die and the artist will never truly die as long as their music is alive. I was also taken aback when I heard that he died 3 days after recording it. That brought you to a dead stop and I really appreciated that pause to let in sink in. I like the song but Otis Redding was just before my time and I didn't know that. It really does make you think about the man and the song. Great reaction!

View the “Monterey Pop Festival” film, 1967. Lots of great music talent. Otis, and his band, B.T. & MG’s do a blistering set…so did The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin - an amazing festival film.

The guitarist was Steve Cropper who also co wrote the song with Redding. Redding died in a plane crash 3days after the song was recorded. Steve Cropper is a very underrated guitarist who has played on many hits from the 60’s and 70’s. If I named the songs you would know them all.

Love this song. I was in kindergarten in the late 60s and my parents had this record. I have vivid memories of playing this record on my parent's Zenith credenza record player and singing to this song over and over. I must have scratched the hell out of it. I swear this song built the base of my love for music... and whistling.

Your parents had a zenith credenza stereo too huh. So did mine. A blonde wood stained beauty. You could stack up a half dozen albums and they would play for hours. No one seemed to consider the destruction to the surface of the albums when they changed. I laid in front of it for hours.

I'm sure you've read this from other people, but The BeeGees wrote the song To Love Somebody for Otis. But he died before he got to cut it. So the BeeGees recorded it instead

it was sad. He had tons of fans, and we all came to love the tune in the months and years after the plane crash. Dock of the Bay was a change from his Gospel roots R&B style. So yes, as you just read on the screen, Monterey Pop Festival is important. There is some amazing footage easily found online of many people, Joplin, Hendrix, The Who among others. That audience was blown away by Redding and all the rest of them. Steve Cropper is the telecaster player featured in the Blues Bros movie, and famous for many reasons, like being part of Booker T and the MG"s who were house band for Stax Studios.

I've always loved the late Otis Redding's iconic song - it so perfectly evokes the imagery of the lyrics. You mentioned debating whether to go to a Home Free concert. Always loved this song but sadly never knew the story of his death. I was born in 68 so obviously I wouldn't be aware. This fact just moves this song up in my heart and soul. It doesn't make the song any better, but I just love it more for some reason. It breaks my heart when someone doesn't get the chance to realize how something they created had an impact on so many millions of people, (and growing). Same with Janis and Peace Of My Heart. That song skyrocketed and she never lived to see it. Never lived to see that millions of people had fallen in love with her. Very tragic indeed.

RIP: Ottis Redding 💔🔥🎤U R Missed "One of the true icons of soul and R&B music" I thought I'd suggest another music icon the late great "Billie Holiday & Count Basie - God Bless The Child" (by the channel: eugenecheese) -- Billie Holiday was an American jazz and swing music singer; she made a huge impact on the jazz and pop music industry. Her vocal style influenced a whole generation of new artists due to her ability to use her strong melodic vocals like jazz instrumentals and vocal phrasing as well as tempo that brought a fresh new sound to jazz and pop music. And in turn this signature style was unique and sought after. She was also known for her improvisational skills. Count Basie was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader and composer. In 1935 he created the "Count Basie Orchestra" and in 1936 took them to Chicago for a long engagement and their first recording. He led the group for almost 50yrs. Under his direction, many black musicians came to prominence. This brought back such wonderful memories, thank you, brother.
