Love Otis Redding nicknamed the "King of Soul". Sadly he died in 1967 in a plane crash at only the age of 26. But he left us some beautiful music. "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" is one of my all time favorite songs. Other hits he had were "These Arms Of Mine", "Try A Little Tenderness", "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long" etc.

Otis had recorded this exact song and died in the plane crash in San Fran Bay before it was released.

You’re correct Otis was a huge inspiration to The Bee Gees. In fact The Bee Gees wrote a song for Otis “To love somebody” but he passed away before he could record it.

Mugs, I was BLESSED to see Otis live at the Monterey Pop Festival. He wrote this about Monterey. There’s excellent footage of his performance there from the festival itself in 1967. He was backed up all the great Stax house musicians- Booker T and the MG’s. ❤❤❤❤

When Otis began writing this song he was convinced it would become his first #1 at Billboard. He called co-writer/guitarist Steve Cropper like in the middle of the night super excited and told him this song will become a #1 hit! Turns out Otis prediction was right unfortunately he never got to experience it since it was released posthumously. Stories tells that he was Mr 100 % he always went all in regardless if it was in the studio or on stage.

He and 5 members of his band died in his private plane on the way to a gig in Wisconsin on an icy cold winter evening. Only 2 survived.
