I was fortunate to pick up the three disc set THE OTIS REDDING STORY back in 1993. I think it had 60 tracks, and most are amazing. I remember "You Left the Water Running" and how much I enjoyed it. It almost sounds like an outtake; It's as if they weren't sure they would keep/release it. We are so lucky that they did. I am torn between Otis Redding and Sam Cooke as my favorite male vocalist of any genre...😊

I’m 36 and coming up on a year of listening to nothing but Stax/MS/Motown soul. I always loved the basics, but I overlooked the greatest music ever made for most of my life, and now I’m head over heals for it. Otis is my all time fav, right above Wilson Pickett. I can’t believe how many amazing songs this man left us by age 26. His prolific nature was a gift to mankind

This piece is a rarely heard gem. One of my very favorite Otis Redding songs. And you are right, he was simply the greatest soul singer who ever lived.

Otis saved me, pulled me out of a terrible burn out; I listened to him day and night, literally, because I had to in order to save the project. I´ll dedicate him a song one day, when I have a melody I believe he might be satisfied with.

I can't stop listening to this song since I bought the August issue of MOJO magazine! The free cd that comes with it is called: "You Gotta Move! The Rock & Soul Sounds Of Muscle Shoals, Alabama". It has some wonderful music by Fame Gang, Wilson Pickett, Arthur Alexander, Eddie Hinton, The Swampers, James Govan, Bettye Lavette, Drive-By Truckers, Jimmy Hughes... and, off course, my favourite - "You Left The Water Running"!

This song, "Mr Pitiful" or "These arms of mine"? They are my 3 favourites from this great legend of soul. All his songs are great, these are my 3 favourites but I cannot pick just one. they have to be joint #1 and the rest joint #2. A great talent gone too soon who achieved so much.

With all due respect to greats like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, etc., by far the best recording of this song is the one by Maurice & Mac. Give it a listen!

Big O, Sam and Dave AND The Wicked Mr Pickett ALL covered this tune...THAt fact sez it all re this song being a masterpiece of "unknown" soul...It is very tough choice, but I'm going with Otis as the winner...This is first take demo for a Wilson Pickett session...I originally dug this on Wilson Pickett LP I bought 'em as young teen ager...

Is this a duet? Can an additional voice that comes in on the chorus be attributed to an overdub Otis made at Muscle Shoals? Dave Marsh sheds no light on the possibility. Maybe I'm hearing things.

I couldn't find a good version of this on youtube, so decided to put one up. Unfortunately, the sound has been blocked. Hopefully, the record company will reach an agreement with youtube, because it is a great song. In the meantime we can spend some quite time enjoying a slideshow of Otiis Redding in silence...

not as good as Barbara Lynn, but just about as good as Maurice & Mac. Isn`t this a bootleg on Stone?

I think Barbara Lynn's version sounds more like a Tamla recording. I love Maurice and Mac's version but, for me, Otis still steals it
@PaulDA200012 жыл бұрын
This sounds pretty good. I've never heard of it though. I never thought the band behind Otis was very tight, it sounds generic to me. While I loved a lot of soul growing up (James Brown obviously, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Joe Tex) I never was much of a fan of Otis, Aretha, Solomon Burke and some others.
