This is a comparison video to show the differences between the OTOFIX D1 Pro, and the D1 Lite diagnostic scan tools. Both of these scanners have full bidirection control and full live data on all modules in most vehicles. The D1 PRO scan tool does have a few more software capabilities than the D1 Lite but most of those are extras are for makes/models that are not sold in the USA, with the exception being Audi and Volkswagen vehicles. However, the D1 PRO has a larger screen, bigger/faster processor, double the RAM, and double the storage, a much larger battery, etc, etc. Overall, the physical hardware of the D1 PRO makes the tool feel much snappier and quicker than the D1 Lite (and the Autel 808 series) and it gives a much better overall user experience. Both of these scan tool are capable both capable of doing the same work 99% of time but the D1 PRO is much faster a nicer to use. The one notable difference that I have personally noticed, and I showed in this videos, is the speed of the full system scan. The D1 Pro scan speed is absolutely incredible. Be sure to watch my demonstration in this video. I'm sure you'll be surprised, too!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Brian. I was looking forward to this comparison video between these two. It's good to know the budget friendly D1 Lite is pretty much just as capable for the home DIY'r. In a shop, time is money so the D1 Pro would be the obvious choice though. Maybe in a year or two the D1 Lite will have upgraded hardware to make it more zippy too but still be budget friendly.

I purchased the D1 Lite first and was ok with it…there are a few drawbacks as you mentioned, but it’s very good for the money. However, not long after buying it something shorted out inside and it wouldn’t turn on anymore, I returned it to Amazon and purchased the D1 Pro. It’s a much better tool, I use it at work daily.

I agree. If I only had the LITE I would be happy with it. But knowing the PRO is even better, it's hard to go back. I've had several Autel 808 models over the years and I would take the D1 Lite of any 808, if I had to pick between those two. Thanks for the comment.

I had the same thing happen to me just the other day! I had just gotten it in the mail and tested it for a bit, then decided to shut it down and let it charge. Tried booting again and nothing. Trying to return but support is slow to respond.

I have these exact two models that’s what brought me here , I’ve still yet to use them & activate the D1 Pro but when activating the D1 Lite , admittedly it did take ages to update so will see how quick the D1 pro is but looks as quick as my Autel Ultra Lite , which is rocket fast , updates quick & boots up in no time .

I have a question about the wifi, it said they both support the 2.4 and 5 ghz bands, but the D1 Lite only supports the 802.11n (wifi4) standard. The 5.0 Ghz band wasn't introduced until the 802.11ac (wifi5) standard. What one does the D1 Lite support? When you load up the wifi networks at hone can it connect to 5Ghz only network?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 10 ай бұрын
You know, I wasn't sure about that, either... In fact, I googled to see if 5.0 GHz existed with wireless N because I thought it wasn't introduced until Wireless ac, just like you said. I ran across a website that mentioned a wireless N router having both 2.4 and 5.0 wifi bands. Maybe I read it wrong..... But I do agree with you, I thought 5.0GHz was introduced with wireless ac. Anyway.... YES, I can see both of my WiFi bands here on my home wireless network. The D1 LITE does indeed support both the 2.4 and 5.0GHz network bands. I am looking at it right now in front of me just so I can be 100% certain. Thanks for the question.

@@SlipFitGarage Thanks for the response, I had to do some digging, but apparently 802.11n(wifi4) supports the 5 ghz band, though not all devices did support it. The Data sheet is likely correct even though it wasn't common until 802.11ac(Wifi5). Thank you for your help! Looks like a nice little tool for a DIYer.

Does the lite do bidirectional tests? Website for ottofix says it doesn't but Amazon says it does?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 10 ай бұрын
Yes, it 100% does bidirectional tests, resets and relearns. (you can watch my D1 Lite video to see for yourself. It is linked below this video) It all changed last summer. It was June 1st, 2022 that Autel came out with a major update that gave all Autel 808 scan tools bidirectional control. When that happened, pretty much all the 808 sub models became the same tool. Also, any other tools that competed with the different 808 models became the same tool. And specifically anything else that runs on Autel software, such as the OTOFIX line of tools, for sure received the major update, too. That was the day when the OTOFIX D1 Lite pretty much became the same as the OTOFIX D1 (non lite). That major update changed the entire scan tool world. For example, on August 1st last summer (two months later) XTOOL had no choice but to send out a major update that gave their D7 full bidirectional control. (The D7 is a direct competitor to the Autel 808 series of tools) And other brands like Topdon and Launch (and others) had to either quickly update their mid level tools, or release new tools with new model names, in that same price range, to compete with the Autel 808 series of tools. Pretty much all scan tools these days in the $400-700 (give or take) all have full bidirectional control now..... and it's all a result of Autel's major 808 update last summer. Why did Autel do this? Not exactly sure... but it's probably because someone else (another company) did it before them and they were just trying to keep up. So, long story short, when you see marketing literature from OTOFIX that says the D1 Lite does not have bidirectional control, it's because that literature is old and still lingering on the internet from before the June 1st 2022. Same with Autel 808 sales literature. It's old marketing material that is still everywhere on the internet. Unfortunately, people still see that information today and they have no ideal it's all wrong nowadays. Or, they see the old marketing material, and then they see the new marketing material for the same tool, and then become confused why they are seeing two different list of specs for the same tool. Now you know why.... Thanks for the question.

This is an awesome scan tool, but for the cost of these, there should be topology and individual graphing capabilities. I see that you can graph single pids in a sense, but you have to scroll up and down if you have more than a few selected.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 9 ай бұрын
I agree, the live graphing should be better.... and I have told my contact at OTOFIX about it. I also told him that several of my viewers have mentioned the lack of multiple graphs on the screen at one time.... I also gave him some example of competitor scan tool models that WILL show multiple graphs. He said he would pass it along to the Autel software engineers. As for topology, I also agree. And again, I also mentioned this to my contact at OTOFIX. I can see the D1 Lite not having topology, but the D1 Pro should absolutely have it considering some slightly cheaper scan tool brand/models currently have it. My contact said he would pass along everything that I suggested to the software people at Autel. We'll see if any changes are made in the near future. Fingers crossed. Either way, I'm still a big fan of the OTOFIX line of tools... Well, anything that runs Autel software. Of all the scan tools that I've had the pleasure of using, my personal scan tool is still my Autel 908. I love that thing..... and it hasn't been updated since like 2020 (give or take) This new OTOFIX D1 Pro will take it's place. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, is the Otofix D1 Lite & Pro still your go to or favorite scanner? I work on my own cars but for example I’d like to buy a Infiniti that has keys missing. I’ve read many instances that the D1 Lite asks for XP1 Pro to be bought to make a key. Also in earlier videos you said the TopDon Phoenix lite was your favorite and they also updated it to have Topology. Is that a better all around bi directional and capable of making keys for most manufactures? I know it’s about $550 more as well. Does the OTOFIX Lite program ECU’s & PCM’s?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 4 ай бұрын
If you're looking for Topology, and you're not looking to spend well over $1K, then the Phoenix Lite Pro is a great Choice. The Phoenix Lite pro video came out about a year before my OTOFIX videos. It may sound like I have multiple favorites at the same time, but these videos can be made years apart from each other. Currently, my favorite is still the OTOFIX D1 Pro, of all the scanners that I currently have.... That doesn't mean it's the best scanner on the market, it just means it's MY (personal) favorite of the scanner that I own. Your favorite scanner can (and probably will) be different. Making keys is NOT my specialty, I'm not really the guy to be asking about that topic. One thing I do know is..... when it comes to keys, it's 100% dependent on the vehicle (year/make/model) so when someone asks, "does it program keys" The answer is yes, on some cars.... and not on other cars. When most people talk about programming keys, what they are really asking is, "can this scan tool program the vehicle to accept a new key", And generally, basic mid-high level scan tools should be able to do that. (again, depending on the vehicle) But what they are technically asking is "can this tool program keys?" And that answer is, "probably not". To install a program into the actual key itself requires a programming dock for the key to sit in while it's being programmed. Some scan tools can do this, but you would still need the programming dock. Again, every vehicle is different. There is probably a reason whey they make a dedicated scan tool just for doing key work. And again, that's why I am far from a key expert. As for "programming" modules.... Well, just like "programming keys" that can mean a few different things, depending who you ask. Typically, most guys use a laptop computer with a J2534 pass-thru device for actual "programming". Like when modules are replaced and they need to be "programmed" with the vehicles VIN number, and current software versions. I've seen some guys use high end scan tools for programming, but most guys use a laptop. You need a subscription to the vehicle manufacturers tech system to have access to their software.... it's much easier to do from a laptop. Even if you did use a scan tool for programming, you'd still need a J2534 pass-thru box and those are $1000 to $1800 by themselves. If you're only programming 1 or 2 modules, it's probably MUCH cheaper to have someone else program it for you. With all that said, SOME vehicles allow the scan tool to "clone" certain modules so they can be "replaced". Again, this is dependent on the vehicle. Thanks for the questions(s).

According to Otofix, the D1 Lite doesn't have bi-directional capability. Their website states, "The difference between the D1 and D1 Lite lies in their diagnostic prowess. Only the D1 can perform Bi-directional controls, active and functional tests. Meaning with the D1 in hand, the technician can command and test every computer-controlled vehicle component and relay including those of the fuel, HVAC, and braking systems. And, only the D1 can perform advanced module servicing as coding, IMMO and adaptations."

You're reading an older version of the OTOFIX website. (or it hasn't been updated) The D1-Lite has full bidirectional control. It all changed last summer. It was either June 1st 2022 or July 1st 2022 (I can't remember the which one right now) when Autel sent out a major update that gave ALL Autel 808 scan tools full bidirectional control. And since the D1 Lite is a direct competitor to the Autel 808, and it happens to run on the same software as the 808, it ALSO received the same update. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the D1 Lite does indeed have full bidirectional control. I own one (the D1 Lite in the video is mine) and have personally used it. I can personally confirm it DOES have bidirectional control.

@@mammonbeezlebub2427 Well, I don't have the standard D1 in my possession so I can't answer that with 100% certainty. However, looking at any sales literature that can be found on the internet, I really can't find any differences. I always wondered why they would still be selling both the Lite and the standard once the Lite received it's upgrade at the same time the 808 family received it's upgrade. I will send my contact at OTOFIX an email.... I have to ask him another question anyway. I will ask him what the difference between the "lite" and the "standard" is. I will post back here when he replies with an answer. Thanks.
