We had this Land Cruiser in for a bunch of oil leaks. While we had the valve cover off I thought it'd be a good time to make a video on replacing the distributor o-ring.

Love all the videos. Happy I came across your channel. Do you ever slightly advance the timing to get a little more power?
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried advancing the timing on a 1fz. I played with it some on an old 7MGTE that I had in a Supra and it was a struggle keeping the knock sensors happy. The 22RE in my 4Runner loves having the timing way advanced but I have to run 89 or better octane to keep it from pinging.

Are you able to do a step by step video of a SERIES 80 Rocker Cover Gasket, Cam Plugs Replacement & Spark Plug Seals, the difficult part is having the confidence to disconnect & reconnect the Throttle Body

Your videos are great and a big help! I’m currently replacing the o-ring, cap, rotor and wires and plugs on my 94. What if my distributor rotor is not at top dead center.... let’s say it’s at the six/seven o clock position. When reinstalling the rotor do I place right back to the same position?
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 3 жыл бұрын
You're best to turn the crank and put the engine at top dead center before pulling it. That way you can use the alignment marks to reinstall. You can mark where it is before removal and match it back, it's just not as foolproof.

So I marked where I removed the the distributor and removed and installed all new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I went to to reinstall it and I went to turn on the engine it just cranks over strong but doesn’t fire up the engine. I installed all OEM parts and followed all of the specs .031inch/.77mm for the gap and checked all wires to distributor and still nothing.

It's, likely not in time. You can check with a timing light while cranking. You're probably a tooth or more off.

Great video. I assume it does not need to be top dead center though if you just mark where the rotor is before pulling it off? Assuming you're doing the project without the valve cover off.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 8 ай бұрын
It's a lot easier to do at TDC since there's an alignment mark on the distributor gear and housing. Valve cover off makes it even easier since you can see Cam timing marks too and know you're at TDC compression.

Does the valve cover/timing cover need to be off to do this job? My distributor has a leak and I'm trying to figure out if it can be done without removing too much
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 4 жыл бұрын
You can do it with the valve cover on. It's a bit more fool proof with the valve cover off since you can see the cam timing marks. We do it all the time just pulling the distributor though.

Hello good day! I have a problem with the Toyota 80 series 1996 distributor. I changed it and when starting the truck there is no problem but when starting it a jingle starts and this was not done before installing the new distributor. Could you help me to solve this problem? Thank you!
@OTRAMM

I don't know, noises are hard to diagnose without being there. If it started with the distributor change I'd check everything that was touched there.

Is the only part needed to do this job the single o-ring for the distributor shaft?

I have a distribuidor leak I purchase the O ring and took it to a shop to get the O ring replaced since I don’t know how to mess with the timing and I was told that the leak will not stop by just replacing the ring and that I have to replace the entire distributor. Is it possible that the distributor can leak from some other area?
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 4 жыл бұрын
It's possible that the distributor is also leaking internally. We don't see the internal leaks any where near as often though.

@@aeski25 I would only use a Toyota distributor. The aftermarket electrical items are usually garbage.

Timing adjustment isn't necessary after doing this job, correct?
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to set the timing since you'll have had the distributor out. Even with marking it, timing will be off.

Are these types of distributor able to be rebuilt or recalibrated ? Is it worth it? Always looking for a few extra miles outta the fuel tank :)Cheers.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 3 жыл бұрын
They're completely electrical. No weights and springs like the old stuff. No way to recalibrate them, I doubt there's a way to economically rebuild them. I've seen rebuilt ones for sale but they're usually garbage.
