Thank you very much for taking the time to document, film and edit your efforts on your VW. Well done for what you were up against. Unless you want a showroom quality bug, great job. I just inherited a '74 Super Beetle with a top that is totally trashed and thinking this may be beyond my scale of expertise - especially since I live in a cold-weather state and don't have a heated garage. Again, thanks for comments and efforts. Enjoy your car.

Thanks! As I say, this is more of a cautionary tale. If you were to choose to do it yourself, it can be a good guide of what NOT to do and how to avoid some of the issues I encountered. If anything, it will give you a healthy respect for those people skilled enough to do a pro-level job! Best of luck on your 74! There's nothing like driving an aircooled VW. BTW - Otto has been my daily driver for two years now. The top is still on and going strong.

Way to go Jerry! Can I say, "job well done?" For sure! You were dealing with the hand you were dealt and got it done. Will I attempt to do the top on my Sun Bug convertible? probably not.

Actually, and I mean this... It IS doable yourself. (And by YOURSELF, I mean you can do it with help from family and friends and not pay a professional) You just have to do this in the summer, take your time, and don't be in a hurry. (oh, and don't make the mistakes I made in these videos!). LOL You will save yourself a TON of money, and even with all the setbacks and frustration, I had at least SOME fun doing it. And I got to bond with my daughter and my wife over a car of all things! :)

I have a super convertible 1974 and I’ve been looking for videos for years , thanks jerry, where did you get the instructions manual

I got it from Chuck's Convertible Parts website. But you can only get it with the purchase of his deluxe convertible top kit. I will be doing this again for my daughter's 72 Super this summer. I will hopefully do a LOT better job on it. :)
