How to support people experiencing Depression depends on the person, but always listen and support them. Try to validate their feelings, good and bad. And if you don't understand, that's fine as well. As long as they know someone cares and this feeling isn't forever.

the issue would probably be people throw those words out a lot now and it is immediately assumed as some kind sickness. It is better to see depression as a person's condition where if you have too much or too less of it, then it is bad.

"I am depressed" and "I have depression" are two distinctly different phrases. One is when you have a negative mood, the other one is when your mental state is unhealthy. You can be depressed but you might not even have depression. Conversely, people with depression might even look cheerful and normal on the outside.
