Swidermajer are houses which are unique to this part of Poland, with an architectural style of the late 19th and early 20th Century. The name combines two words: The Swider River, which runs through the town of Otwock where these houses can be found, and Biedermeir.
Biedermeir was an era in Central Europe between 1815 (the fall of Napoleon) and 1848, which saw revolutions across Europe. This 30 year period was one of stability and return to domestic values -- with a focus on home life, arts and crafts, interior design and architectural styles. Though the period lasted only 30 years, its influence lasted a 100 years or more.
So, these Swidermajer: They are wooden villas and summer homes which combine local elements with the Swiss style of wide roofs. Russian elements are seen in the wooden porches that are enclosed with windows. The Podhale region of Southern Poland (The Carpathian Mountains) is reflected in the many decorative elements around the windows and under the roofs.
