As I watch this on March 30, 2022, one month into Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, I’m deeply struck by the similarities between the Warsaw Uprising and the Ukrainian resistance to Russian atrocity. This was a tough one to watch, Rick, but I’m so glad I did. Human beings are flawed but fascinating creatures. Thank the Lord there is still integrity, courage and nobility among us, to battle and defeat the worst. God bless Poland, and God bless Ukraine. 🇺🇦

I visited Krakow and Warsaw last month. What a beautiful country and wonderful people! Krakow is such a charming city, though there were quite a lot of tourists, it seemed unspoilt, peaceful, welcoming, and relaxed. The people are so nice, many speak excellent English. Warsaw is also an amazing city, love those Chopin music benches along the street. Apart from Auschwitz and the magnificent Salt Mine we also paid a visit to Chopin's birthplace Zelazowa Wola, which give us an opportunity to see the lovely countryside. Will go again. :)
@isola57386 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention the food, the Polish food are tasty and rich, good for their cold winter days I guess. Pierogi and beet soup are common and yummy. Two restaurants we liked the most are Kamahda Lwowska in Warsaw (lovely Polish - Ukrainian traditional food and atmosphere, we went there twice in 3 days) and Pod Nosem in Krakow (fine traditional Polish cuisine), both food and service are superb, good value especially the former. We wouldn't have found them if not for Rick Steves' guide book 'Kraków, Warsaw & Gdansk'. It is very informative and user-friendly. In the book there is a description about Polish people, that they have a 'quiet elegance', which is so true! There are something about the Poles that make them stand out, make them proud. A lot to do with their history and culture I think.

Nice documentaries Rick. These reminded me of my corporate days with companies like Hoechst, Rousse, Schering, Rhone-Poulenc, and Bayer, when I uses to visit these countries. of Europe. Down the memory lane!

I visited Krakow in March 20017 I absolutely loved the polish people we visited The Salt Mines and Schindler's Factory but I found Auschwiz very harrowing and we should never forget what happened but it took me a few days to feel normal I just couldn't comprehend what Auschwiz held and what happened there if like me you think too much and are an empath don't visit Auschwiz it's so very very sad

Polish people have a long memory and remember what Germans done to us. Sometimes you can say that we stick too much in history but we think that history lern us how avoid mistakes. Greetins from Poland.

Karen - yes, you express it well. It's the grimmest place on earth and has a profound effect on the visitor. I went to Aushwitz 3 times but avoided Birkenau until the 4th time, and I would never go there again. Like you, it took me days to recover from the full horror of the reality of the greatest crime in history, and even now, the memory haunts me and makes me shiver when I think of it. RIP so many.

Been to all these 3 places. Loved Krakow for its quaint charm, was pained by the horrors of Auschwitz and inspired by Warsaw's fighting spirit. Thank you for such a lovely vdo

I just visited Poland for the first time to Warsaw and Kraków. first let me say i have been to close to 25 European countries and almost a hundred cities in Europe, but Poland which I am not biased, I'm Irish and Dutch from America was the most friendly, polite place. The food, people and hotel staff was very friendly in all cities I stayed in. Can't wait to return.
