11:24 yw. I put a 1/0 treble hook thru my thumbnail before. Used the tip of a utility knife razor blade to slowly enlarge the hole in my thumbnail enough to clear the barb. I also had to twist the hook from side to side like I trying to put a live crab bait on a hook using the barb itself to enlarge the hole in the thumbnail enough from the inside. Ouch, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it out, nearly had to go to the ER. My wife just laughed at me about it the whole time too.

Yeah, I've had a lure stuck in my foot before. I was preparing to go trout fishing and accidentally stepped on one of my barbed minnow lures. It was only 1 treble hook and 2 of the barbs were lodged deep inside the heel of my foot. I ended up going to the ER for surgery and they ended up having to PUSH the hook all the way through my foot to snip the barbs off before pulling it back out. The worst part is, I was awake and could feel it all happening (dam it hurt)! Funny thing is, I still don't wear shoes when assembling my fishing gear.

Great vid Sammy. Fishing with a mate at Botany Heads when he hooks a Salmon on a slug. All's good till the hooks pull 10 feet from the boat. Standing there fighting my own fish when something hits me in the mouth. Long story short I've now got my first piercing through my bottom lip. Not wishing to have me bleed all over his boat my mate cuts off the slug, leaving it dangling from my lip, ties on another lure and keeps on fishing. I, of course, caught my fish with my lip swelling up nicely. Should have seen the look on my wifes face when I came home sporting my punk look. Anyway, have a great New Years celebration and look forward to next weeks video.

Before you stepped on the hook, you showed the fish infront of the camera when it was still moving….After we gaf a fish, specially wahoo, we kill it first outside the boat. Ok so the trick to doing it on your own Sammy is make the loop hold down the shank nice and firm down to the skin then with your pliers just insurt into the loop and give it a bang. Mate i once barra fishing in Broome was hanging my lures on the side of my tackle box then hooked up stood up a d as i moved my foot I grabbed all five lures on the middle trebles. As a spectator it would've been hilarious. But being hooked up to a fish and my tackle box trying to land a fish on one foot in a tinnie isnt what its cracked up to be hahahaha. Just used the loop and pliers technique works a charm don't have to hit it to hard either. Lovin your vids man

Sammy Hitzke Fishing catching barracoota with 100gm wonder pilchard lure, lifting a meter long fish into the boat and he thrashed, I wore the lure in my face. I was about 16yo, wearing sunnies, and the blood was something to behold. It’s a long story but, yeah, I was very lucky! By the time I got to the medical center the swelling dropped and I managed to get it out. Had to have a tatanus shot though 😳😳🤣🤣🍺🍺

How did you go at South West Rocks Sammy?, ive been going down there since birth in 1961, we used to have to take a ferry across the river at Jersyville, my Grandparents had a dairy farm on the river between Jersyville and Smithtown, my god the fish we would see as kids when we walked over to the river early in the morning, massive schools of bream and mullet, the big jew smashing the mullet used to keep my Nan awake at night, she reckons it was like horses running through water, a family friend tells me the fishing is nothing like it used to be, with charter boats ect he reckons you are flat out getting a feed now, but its a truly beautiful area.

i got me some cheap on sale snow boots that are water resistant for this reason. they come off easy if you go in the piss. and never get wet feet pulling up anchor.

Another option is cut the hook just above the skin. Make a donut out of a handy material and tape/bandage it over the injury. Then go to a hospital when ya get back to shore. Doc will use a pain killer and a tiny cut with a scalpel.

I think I would use that as a worst case option if it wasn't going to come out. A lot easier to just get it out and get on with the day!

I am amazed the number of people who don`t wear shoes in a boat. Today you can buy very good quality boat shoes that are very comfortable and great to wear on a boat without any discomfort. Those crocs are so perfect ... safety should be No1priority and should be requested by person in charge of boat... He could be up for a hefty hospital bill if a pasenger had a bad experience...
