I generally am not a fan of these cine builds with a smaller camera. If it want a small cam I would use the fx3 and if I need something build out I would prefer an fx6. BUT this is one of the best fx3 builds I have seen. I would totally run this!
@TenfoldProduction3 ай бұрын
Appreciate you! We feel the same, there are things we like better on an FX3 that we prefer over the FX6 ( which we recently sold). FX6 can be a bit cumbersome if you need some quick specialty shots. The FX3 is great for us because you can always build it up or break it down easier. Smaller profile for gimbal work which doesn't require us to get into the Ronin 2 world. At the end of the day, it's a solid tool for us and we're a fan of the safety and simplicity (for us atleast haha).

Is there a V-Mount plate that has power distribution that mounts to 15mm rods AND/OR can be mounted onto another V-Mount plate - Like a camera that has a V-Mount on it? Basically, my one camera setup is a mirrorless, and to use that, Id need 15mm rods. The other camera has a V-Mount at the back, but not enough power ports. So, Id like to sandwich this in between the camera and the V-Mount battery to have more power ports.

Hey thanks so much for showing the build you guys use! I recently got the Hollyland Mars 4K for my FX3 but, despite all of my HDMI cables being sufficient for monitors and wireless systems in the past, anytime I plug in straight to the body and not loop through monitor, the transmitter says no video. Is the HDMI you suggested the only one that works when going straight out from the camera? I'm hoping my cables are just incompatible

This is awesome, will defiantly implement some of these :) One question, is there ever any risk of frying your camera if you power both the monitor and camera with the same power source? I've heard people mentioned it, but maybe only specific camera do this
@derfla1003 ай бұрын
I've read alot about this as well but seems like it works flawlessly for some people while others have had issues. I err on the side of caution so I power via a separate NPF battery for the monitor but Ideally I would like to do what they've done here from a splitter. Another possible solution would be to have a sharkfin plate so there'd be 2 v-mount batteries with 1 dedicated to the monitor but that might be a little excessive/heavy.
@matt.banton3 ай бұрын
@@derfla100 Thanks! Yes i do the same at the moment, i power the monitor with a NPF. I also read if you power everything on in a certain sequence it will be fine. But like you said, best not to risk it! Good though with the sharkfin, i'll keep it in mind

@Supercon573 ай бұрын
Personally I prefer to keep a sony battery in the camera body and then power the camera with a usb cable As well as power the monitor and Tx with a DC while leaving a npf-570 plugged in This way you can hot swap the v-mount without having the power cycle three different devices Sony alpha bodies (FX3 is essentially an A7S3) are prone to having short term memory and forgetting settings when the battery is pulled so i try to avoid it when possible It also takes a second for the hollyland to reestablish a link Its also good in general to keep a battery in the camera as there is a small internal watch battery that remembers the time, if left unpowered for a long period of time it can wear out and it's a pain to replace

Not a fan. I appreciate how others like these mirrorless frankenrigs but I just don''t get it. You can say all day that we got this because the FX6 was too big. But when broken down to just body alone it weighs 2lbs lmao. Its very small actually. You can fly it on a little Ronin-S EASY. When I hear people say, we like the fact that we can break it down into a smaller package, I also don't understand. Be honest, how often are you truly actually breaking down this FX3 to just the camera alone on location. I'd venture to say probably never, maybe once or twice. You guys MOSTLY use this setup as a full rig, or else why even spend all the extra time, energy, and cash building it out in the first place? An FS5/FX6, body alone, can EASILY fly on a gimbal and still get specialty shots and to top it all off you keep the internal VNDs and XLR audio. FX3 is WAY to expensive for what it is imo. Easy to get caught up in this intrinsic desire to have the latest camera bodies when in fact if I showed you footage from an FS5/FS7 and an FX3 you couldn't even tell the difference anyway letter off some client who could care less. If you can't produce high quality work with an FS5, an FX3 isn't going to magically produce a better product.
