My turn off to the temple was in my 20s. I came home from my mission got engaged to a sweet girl that the "spirit" told me to marry. She broke up with me because her abusive mother hated me irrationally not knowing me. My mom in her infinite wisdom asked me to transcribe names for the temple. It was page after page of people who shared her last name. Then the last time I went to the temple it was with my ex wife. I felt the "spirit" and it said that my ex wife was not my ex fiance. I couldn't marry because her mother abused her into marrying someone else. My ex fiance was already married to a pathetic man who her mother had already decided on a full month before she and I thought to marry. I never wanted to go back to the temple after that. To me the temple is just a slavers den where a loved one of mine was sold for nothing but hatred.

@bobicusrex15 күн бұрын
@KendraAndTheLaw yeppers you have to pay tithe which was never meant to be a commandment in the first place. Tithing that is supposed to build Zion. Building Zion is supposed to be building people up not buildings. The church is tearing people down to put up buildings.

Rebecca, Bill, RFM, the lyrics you need, I wrote. Clearly, I was inspired, months ago, for this moment. To the tune of the primary song that starts "Jesus came to John the Baptist in Judea long ago" (the one with the high notes that shatter windows), here it is. Sing along! Just last night I had a vision In a dream she came to me: Australopithecus Afarensis, Sweet young thing we named Lucy. “Can I too be saved?” she asked me, “Come to heaven if I want? Will you give me true immersion In that oxen-circled font?” Now we know that we must also Baptize for Denisovans, Homo Erectus and Neanderthals, Just as well as Sapiens. Seriously, my friends, your podcasts need opening hymns. Believe me, I've got a lot of them--enough to trigger TBMs, exmos, all of us.

My sister has a special line to people whose obituaries she’s read. She hears from them in dreams. They are sooo damn lucky to have that conduit to a worthy Mormon.

I remember one time doing initiatory work and commented to the woman that I thought the name had been done but there was a new family line with their Finnish and Swedish names using the non-English words Hansdotter and Hanspoika etc. The woman informed me that some of the names have probably been done 8 or 9 times but that was just the way it was. I thought, crack, what am I doing spending so much time researching and documenting if crack, the work has already been done and it is crack, unnecessary. Crack, is all of this just to crack, make me feel crack good?

This was HUGE for me too... the incredible sacrifice of my time, not to mention opportunities foregone, to attend the temple, & names are redone 6+ times? Absolutely not. The day I learned that was the last day I attended IIRC. We have the technology to track this accurately, to avoid duplication. The church has the funds to get it done, but they can't be bothered, b/c iT's AlL fEr ThE LaWd... sigh ...

Marketing 101: You need to sell a product nobody really needs or wants (e.g. temples and temple ordinances). Step 1: Convince the potential consumer that there is a problem that affects them personally (e.g. a bunch of dead ancestors who can only get out of prison with their help). Step 2: Once the sucke...er...uh...potential consumer buys into the problem story, convince them that your useless product (temples and temple ordinances) is the only solution to the fake problem that they now think is real.

The moral of the video is: you’re still spending too much time with the living! It’s not enough to serve two missions now (older couples) or to frequent the temple as patrons or temple workers. You need to set down your fishing nets (the living) and follow after the dead. Yeah, I’m pretty sure your neglect for children, parents, and others will not earn you more points.

I have a grandfather on my mom side that was baptized at least 2 or 3 times in the temple. I remember doing the endowment and sealing work with my wife for my grand father and grandmother then fast forward 16 years and my youngest son called me letting me know that he was just baptized for that same grandfather. Are temples running out of name?

Rebecca’s father ran a genealogy library for 30 years and told her names would be done 5-6 times due to amateur genealogists changing things and getting documents wrong. People would be sealed to people they weren’t married to etc.

I hate that there's no peer review process for geneology work. So much redundancy, so many errors.

The whole idea that the equivalent of a living human voodoo doll is required to perform an ordinance physically in order to transfer the ordinance's abstract power to a disembodied spirit (whose name must be read out loud for the voodoo transfer of the ordinance to work)...is so bizarre. It must have come from the immature mind of a person who believed in things like magic peepstones, handshake tests for spirits and elusive slippery treasures guarded by ghosts.

Listening to this is reminding of Isaiah’s warning of communication with the dead. Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you: Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter-should not a people seek unto their God for the living to hear from the dead?

The "waiting" argument is ridiculous. Why? Because you know who else has been waiting even longer? Our children! They've been waiting 7000 years for their turn to come to earth only to be born to parents who ignore and neglect them to spend all their time serving the dead. Well did Jesus say, "let those who are dead bury their dead". Temple "work" is the refuge for the spiritually dead! (Besides, that's the whole deal with the millineum, isn't it? That someone gets resurrected and then goes and does the rituals for their parents, who are then resurrected and do the same for their parents, too? Why waste all that time NOW when we could be helping those in need?)
@mormonishpodcast103618 күн бұрын
And so many mistakes! Why not let the Lord sort it all out and then do the work rather than do the work now and get most of it wrong!

This is very valid point, Rebecca: if we believe that God is all-powerful, then He could just wave His hand and "make it so" with no need for any mortals to build temples and do all this "work". Once you realize that, it looks a lot more like "busy work", just to keep the members feeling like they're doing something that needs them.

The old ancestor in the modern man's dream sang a modern song in a modern mode? Although there is no seer stone involved, it reminds me of all those King James Bible errors and Deutero-Isaiah anacronisms in the Book of Mormon. Even if it ain't true, the song is authentically Mormon.

Hold on ! I thought Jesus went to Spirit Prison after he died before the Resurrection, and He released those in Spirit Prison! Am I wrong ? I thought our temple work is for our ancestors and others who passed away , if they are good, they are in paradise waiting for the work to be done ! Now they are in Spirit Prison!? I never thought my ancestors are in Spirit Prison just awaiting the work in paradise. Or paradise is just for LDS people who die after doing all their ordinances? Any help here ?
