Pre cut your tape in 1" squares and stick them to your shirt. You can do the V's first, then run your length of tape. I'm a paint contractor and that's what we do. Hope it helps. Big fan of y'all.

After setting your gauge with the length of the board, I would’ve seen how would fit 6 inches away and keep doing that until it wasn’t snug anymore. Then I would remeasure, instead of one at a time. I was always extremely detail oriented, but also consider what is most efficient. You’re a master craftsman Richard, and have been following you for years ❤.

You do such remarkable work. I'll only add that I've marked an L and R with sharpie on my stair gauges to remind myself from cutting the wrong angle--if I unintentionally flip the jig 180 degrees during marking phase on the board. Ask me how I know this. Yes, it also saves wasting material on incorrect cuts.

With smaller beams where there is t&g we have ran the t&g first snapped lines and from the backside of beam sides we pocket screw into every piece of t&g. What this does is eliminate the need to scribe and sucks every piece of t&g tight to the beam sides.

The only issue is that the boards will get scuffed from your hands (even if you keep them super clean), saw deck, hammer, stacking them, or literally anything. Gotta spray after install for a pristine finish, and Richard would not settle for anything less than pristine!

You could put the tape partially behind the tongue and groove, i've done that before, you also don't have to caulk because it's impossible paint gets behind it. After painting you take a razersharp knife and cut the tap at the seamline. I have experience that it's much faster that way

@jonathanviborg4229 Жыл бұрын
It sure looks very tidy to see the beam behind the grooves but in terms of looking authentic would it not be wiser to take the other route and mimic the beams supporting the subfloor? Or maybe this is the way it would look like if there was a subfloor and you actually dressed it up from underneat in the old days if you wanted exposed beams? Very fine work any way!
@TheFishingFL Жыл бұрын
I think the cupping goes along with that rough sawn look you have on the beams! If you wanted to fix that you could’ve run kerfs lengthwise down your boards and nailed on a couple small boards/blocks on the inside to flatten it
@davidlynch2443 Жыл бұрын
Well would you not have to allow for expansion on the tongue and groove and the beams as well
@mikedruce1701 Жыл бұрын
I’m sure you’re done the ceiling now - but I saw an opportunity for you to build a jig to hold your quick grip to your cutting surface so it says in the same place between cuts - all you’d have to do is tighten the grip. Good work! The details absolutely matter and it’s not crazy.

Very impressive work. I wish more craftsmen showed this attention to detail. But wouldn't the dark voids between the v-grooves (vs seeing the beam in the notch) actually mimic building a tongue & groove roof deck on top of beams better? That would not only be more representative of the real thing, but I would think it would go up quicker & be easier to paint too. Just my opinion. It's fantastic either way!
@josbc448 Жыл бұрын
Looks great but historically the t and g represents the subfloor right? So if it was functionally the floor above you would not be able to see the wood through the notch. Still looks great though.
