This might be a silly question but have you heard of the 3rd hand tool? Its an extendable stick that works just like a quick clamp. I use it to put up cabinets, create plastic drapes for painting, and for holding stuff to ceilings. One of the most useful tools I’ve bought.
@robertbamford8266 Жыл бұрын
I thought of that, too. Then I thought of spending hundreds of dollars when a 1x or 2x will work.
@timothydu9415 Жыл бұрын
@@robertbamford8266 not even close… its $80 for two of them. they go up to 12 ft long. the ability to precisely adjust the length with a trigger. You’d actually save time and money if you do it alot. Plus, it fit in my van vertically in the corner not being 12 ft long.

Your client has good tastes in what image they want their home to project. I'm with you on the 1/2" drop on these beams. The shadow lines make their own statement in this highly figured wooden design. Using the third hand is truly a time saver while installing blocking. Another advantage is it allows you to work the framing to the line when the lumber yard includes material that isn't straight.

Hey! Curious, on the side panels, on the long runs where you couldnt use a single board, how did you join the two boards? Are they mitered or square? Doing beams on a job right now.

Looks awesome. Did one of these for a very indecisive customer that had a difficult time picturing it from just snapped lines so we had to completely finish the room with trim and crown 4 times. They were zillionares though so we were paid for every attempt and I actually learned quite a bit about different coffered ceiling patterns. What you call the 'dropped overhang' we call a 'reverse reveal'.

I am so sorry to ask you this because I know you are not doing coffered ceilings right now but I just watched a video you did three years ago and I am following your instructions for making a coffered ceiling in my family room. I will be nailing to bare floor joists (no ceiling drywall) and I want to know why you used the 2 X 6 boards in the inside of the room? Would I be able to use 2 X 4s to span the room and 2 X 4 drops. The reason I want to do this is because I feel the ceiling is too low and the room too small to accommodate 2 X 6 rails (?). My goal is to make access to plumbing and electrical much easier to access if needed. I intend to leave the panels loose if at all possible. Thank you very much for your help.

You obviously had alot of input from the construction of the ceiling making sure you had blocking and making sure the ceiling was level. What about a ceiling on a home that is not 100 percent level and out of level? What tricks do you do in that case? Thanks

What’s going on with all the chains on your tools?
@TheEricj1337 Жыл бұрын
okay..as someone who does beams at work, how do you deal with the ceiling being totally f'ed up, besides scribing every cut. sometimes we use a jack (for a car) and push it up into our blocking and nail it off. is there a better way besides getting the beam to fit, then scribing, then taking it down, then cutting your scribe line, then putting it back up? Cause my boss is NOT interested in that process lol. he just tells the builders to float some drywall mud in the gaps. aka - it's not my house.

@@FinishCarpentryTV What are the dimensions of that room, like 40'x40'? Is it like a banquet room or dance studio or something? In rooms that size you definitely need something to break the monotony of the vast empty ceiling. I think the beams look pretty cool, even if not "functional". Don't they add some acoustic benefit as well?
