Very helpful video, thank you, the exploded bb examples was great. I'm looking at avoiding press fit and sticking with threaded, maybe the newish T47.

After watching so many videos this one is the best explanation for noobs like me. So I just dismantled my budget bike, weak ball bearing housing inside, crushed. Would these be upgradable to sealed bearings so I don't have to replaced again in 6 months!

Hi and thatnks for your comment. That's great to hear that you found the video to be the best explanation for beginners like yourself! As for upgrading your bottom bracket, yes that will be possible and would more likely avoid having to replace it every six months.Cartridge bearings are generally low maintenance and perform better overall. Just make sure that your cartridge bottom bracket is compatible. I made a video taht might be of help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3jYepyGrLCLmc0. If you have any further questions or need assistance with your bike upgrade, feel free to ask. Good luck with the improvements!🙂

hello I know I need a 118mm Lenght sealed bearing cartridge bottom bracket, because I will install a Double crankset. BUT.. why are they all 68mm, bc when I measure my shell on the frame, I have 74mm Will I fit on my frame ?
@cyclemaintenanceacademyАй бұрын
Hi, thank you for your question, and I apologise for not responding sooner. It’s great that you know the length of the axle! Yes, some frames do have wider bottom bracket shells. You’ll need to find a bottom bracket that is 73x118; unfortunately, a 68mm bottom bracket won’t work. I hope this helps!🙂

I have an old trek navigator and the bottom bracket measures out to be 73x116mm cant seem to find any that size. Any suggestions.

Hi Steven, thanks for the comment and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Sorry to hear that you struggle to find the correct axle length replacement bottom bracket. Are there simmilar lengths available for example 73x118? That's ony 2 mm difference which shouldn't have a much impact on your gears. Let me know if you managed to find the correct replacement or if you decided to use a slightly diffrent size and how this works for you.

Do these numbers ring a bell? BB 2421 and 35-50Nm L BSA
@cyclemaintenanceacademy8 ай бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your question. I'm not aware of BB (bottom bracket) 2421. 35-50Nm is the torque recomendation (how much you should tighten it), L stands for left side and BSA is a british thread.

I found a new bike someone threw out missing the berring crank and pedals. How do I know which berring type I have?
@cyclemaintenanceacademy Жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, thanks for your question. First check if there is a thread in the bottom bracket shell. If there is you can use threaded bottom brackets. If there isn't you will need to fit a press fit bottom bracket. To determine the specific type of threaded or threadless bottom bracket you need, you'll have to take into account the crankset you plan to install. Bottom brackets are designed to be compatible with certain cranksets, so it's important to make sure they match up.Once you've decided on the crankset you want to use, refer to the manufacturer's recommendations to find out which bottom bracket is compatible with it. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Good luck with your bike project!🙂

Why do people say that a square tapered crankset/chainset/bottom bracket is bad? (and why are they called those three different things?)
@cyclemaintenanceacademyАй бұрын
Hi! Thank you for your question, and I apologise for the delayed response. You're correct that the square taper system is quite reliable; in fact, it’s one of the most dependable options available. However, advancements in bottom bracket design are focused on reducing weight and enhancing performance.

Hi, and thanks for the comment. I absolutely understand, there are many types of bottom brackets, and some of them are quite similar. If you still struggle then it may be a good idea to visit your LBS to ask them for advice. Let me know once you find out which bottom bracket you need. Good luck!👍

absolutely ridiculous how many standards there are
@dawn_rider Жыл бұрын
More than a dozen. There seems to be a trend of increasing incompatibility in the modern cycling market. Some of it is incremental 'improvements' but I think there is also an element of vendor 'lock in'. Edit 13Nov2023 : Search for " wheelsmfg Bottom Bracket Standards " for a list.
