Digging Science

3 жыл бұрын

We go to Wyoming every year to collect fish fossils and this was one of our best trips to date. The area we were digging is part of the Green River Formation and each of these fossils is approximately 52 Million Years Old.
The specific quarry we were in is the Warfield Fossil Quarry just outside of Kemmerer, Wyoming. This year's trip returned some of the most incredible fish fossils we have ever found. Including fossil stingrays, a fossil palm frond, a fossil turtle, and a diversity of other fossil fish. Joe spent many hours preparing these fossils and we were happy to share some of the results of his fossil fish preparation at the end of the video.
If you want to hunt here yourself make sure to check out the link below:
www.fossilsafari.com
Email Joe to buy some fossil fish:
Joescoinsandfossils@verizon.net
Through exploring, fossil hunting, and arrowhead collecting, we can make a physical connection to the history around us. We are passionate about that connection and want to share it with others. If you value this content, consider supporting us on Patreon so we can help others “dig science.”
/ diggingscience
We plan on hunting for a diversity of fossils all throughout the US this year with other fossil hunters such as Paleocris, Wildkyle, Ancient Artworks, Shark Teeth and Fossils and Bone Valley Collections. We hope to find beautiful Megalodon teeth, gems and minerals, great white shark teeth, artifacts, arrowheads, and megafauna creatures like mammoths and mastodons. We will also include videos on how to find shark teeth and explore discussions on some of our favorite topics in paleontology, archaeology, and geology!

As a kid my father and uncle worked in construction, leveling land for homes to be built on, and one day he took us on a field trip to Pacific Palisades, where he and my uncle were working. There were fossils everywhere in the rock. They looked just like this! We brought home several pieces but my uncle gave them to a friend, it made me sick because he said he wanted them for his fireplace, then he sold them!

What a cool wrap-up of the fossil dig! You and Joe did yourselves proud with the haul. I reckon you are branching out on your fossil-finding ventures quite nicely; Diving the rivers, driving those backroads, and now, digging in on a fossil site, there can't be too many more exciting ways to find cool fossil stuff, BUT having said that, I now expect you to say "Hold my beer, challenge accepted!" I LOVE the turtle & the palm leaf... If I wasn't living hand to mouth, on a monthly pension, I'd make an offer. As Joe said, everything has a price. Stay well and I'll see you in the next video. Cheers!
