@@1nvisible1, I have to disagree with you, and it is based upon my experience living through the real hippie days of the 1960s and 1970s with the birth of Earth Day and the artwork from Height Ash-berry and the psychedelic poster art that drove most contemporary artists and their work. There is very little doubt that one of the previous comments was probably correct in estimating that it took someone at least 10 days of fairly steady work to complete and I also concur that I doubt that anyone with any brained would be willing to carry it in/overland as a completed project when they could bring the tools and have an actual “Love In”!

I really like your videos. I am part Apache and Pueblo Indian. My dad grew up in New Mexico near Pie Town on the Criswell Ranch. I am George Criswell's grandson. My dad told me stories about growing up on the ranch and how he would ride to the hills and explore the canyons, He said he found several of what he called cliff dweller ruins. He said they were well intact with whole pottery, arrowheads everywhere corn cobs, and burnt corn cobs still in the fireplaces. I never went to the ruins because my Grandfather sold the ranch which was over 46000 acres long before I was born. Anyway, I wanted to tell you this because I thought you might want to research it and maybe you could find the ruins my dad spoke about. The Criswell ranch is on the internet today as it is being sold off in chunks. I hope this becomes one of your videos. Thank you again for letting me relive a memory of the stories my father told me.

I think if there were only a few ruins out there that I would probably be more upset, but they're scattered all over the place and more are discovered every day, so yeah, that's pretty amazing. Broken legs, what the procedure? ☎️ a friend?
@michaelmoore79756 ай бұрын
This is the best advice to give. The buddy system can be applied to many types of activities. 1 person is fine until it's not. Then it's too late. Adding just 1 more person opens the options and possibilities _infinitely._
@Mindsi6 ай бұрын
@@michaelmoore7975 but how would u be got out of the area and by whom?
@michaelmoore79756 ай бұрын
@@Mindsi 1st thing is you need to have emergency numbers from that area plugged into both phones. Next, plot out and discuss the intended route from when you leave the car to the destination. Just a general direction from the car. And distance in a direct line to the destination. This is to simplify and reduce wasted searching. For instance, if one person can't be moved and the other gets out, to tell rescuers "he is North Northwest from where we parked, about 3 miles as the crow flies" or "East Southeast from where we parked 3 and 3/4 miles as the crow flies.' Whatever the case may be. It will help immensely just by knowing a general distance and direction. While hiking, always keep some distance between the both of them. Not a lot, just keep each other in sight. This way, if something happens to 1 person, it won't likely happen to the other, leaving them to seek help if necessary. Now IF something happens....say 1 person slips, falls and breaks their back. Hopefully, you can call rescuers and tell the direction and distance from where your car is located. Then just keep the injured person from moving, provide shade if possible, and keep them hydrated. When you hear voices yell to get their attention. If you hear a helicopter, get to a clear area, take off the brightest, biggest piece of clothing and wave it in great big circles to be seen. But if there is no cell service, then the uninjured person provides shade, leave the injured with some water, and hike back out to the car as fast as safe as you can. Then either drive or find cell service to call emergency. Then everyone go back to where the car was parked and give the distance and direction and go along to help locate the injured.
@danayneal44096 ай бұрын
@@michaelmoore7975 is correct. The buddy system is best. I would add that smoke is also good at getting attention if you don't have brightly colored fabric. Also, phone a friend (or two) before you go so that if you both end up in trouble, your friends can notify emergency services for you. I love these channels but I worry for our host. Climbing these steep canyons, with no safety gear, all alone?

I’ve done a lot of research on the New Mexico Indians and the Mexico and Central American Indians. I was born on a huge ranch that was open-range land gained in the war with Mexico. I grew up way back when 90% of NM was inhabited by European settlers (the early Spanish families and new settlers predominantly from western and N Western Europe. In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s there was a deep desire to document the remnants of native Indigenous people. My public school year saw many of the early archeologist and explorers building close relationship with the Pueblo and Navajo Apache peoples. Almost every year we went on a week long school trip to visit Santa Fe and the Northern indigenous cities and ruins. We also went on exploration field trios where students were tasked with just looking for arrowheads, flint tools, broken pottery. Our ranch was where the Guadalupe and Rocky mountain collide. The closest river to our land was the Penasco River, a little over 22 miles away by road. Up until the 1930’s, 40’s there was sufficient yearly rain to allow small groups of indians to travel to our ranch and set up hunting camp sites. There was also a lot of flint in our area so we believe a lot of people would travel to these flint outcroppings and live for a few months while mining flint and making flint tools. In several areas on the ranch, where now dry creeks use to run, we found large piles of broken flint and tools that were discarded after one mistake in their making, lots of partial arrow heads, partial knife and broken pottery. The pottery is quite a bit different than in Arizona or New Mexico. The dark decorative patterns were large patterns vs the fine line patterns seen in other areas. Anyway about 10 years ago I join ancestry. Its been a long arrurous bit of research. The data bases keep growing and ancestry has become amazingly useful. I had heard from both sets of grandparents that we had native ancestry. When we first ran our DNA, I had made it back to about 1550 on both sides of my family tree. I couldn't find any indication of a native American except one old tin type picture from the 1860’s on my mothers side. The Mitchell / Smith branch had a picture of a very handsome, very blond Scottish farmer with a tall dark haired dark skin wife. We have her name but no tree past her. We know at that time there werent near enough women for eligible young men. We believe she may have been a mixed Creek Tribe and European. Her facial features were very strong, long face with long medium nose. Anyway then I found that my grandmother in paternal sides family were and still are important family in Mexico. We were able to track her family back to the 1700’s near Pueblo Mexico. Then in the late 1700’s the area near LasCruces NM. Through DNA we know we are of Basque origin with a small percentage of indigenous American indians. The map shows similar dna from Guatemala to southern Texas, New Mexico and Arizona with a higher concentration of matching DNA in the traditional territories of the Apache. Whats amazing when people start digging is how vast our ancestors are. My 2nd great grandfather fought in Sam Houstons army. One of my fourth great grandfather's fought in indian wars from Florida Al the way to New Mexico with medals and awards received for combat in each war. Ironically, we find that we have other ancestors who were killed in ambushes by indian raiding parties and then we have ancestors who were members of the tribes killing and being killed by my Euroean ancestors. Its mind boggling to think of all the pain, suffering caused by leaders and fear on all sides and yet here I and my sister are products of both sides…. I am grateful that people are taking time to explore and document these remnants of the past. My fear is they all need to be protected somehow but know that it is impractical to do so. I want to encourage people who are interested to try researching their ancestry. I've found it to be quite the adventure.

As physics plays out, this is what happens. From the most distant galaxies in wavelengths we can't even see with our human eyes to the microscopic life only resolved with technology like electron microscopes, all truly wonders to behold. We're so glad to meet Mrs. Drifter. My wife was a rock climber, ice climber and mountaineer. I was a sea kayaker, now we are mostly sailors. I first discovered the Trek Planner and then your channel. I shared your video's with my wife and now we look forward to watching every new video together. Thank you so much for sharing Mrs. Drifter (Evelyn) with us, she seems great! We look forward to seeing you both again, and again, and.....

When i was 18 years old (1998) i went to the Smoky Mountains to camp, it was my first time in nature, I am from Chicago, and it was a good time! At that time i’ve never heard of the phrase “Leave No Trace” or anything about outdoor ethics! I remember my friends and I started driving away you could see our mess (cups, paper towels, paper plates) it just stood out like a sore thumb! I forced them to go back and we cleaned up put everything in bags or just inside our car and took it to the visitor center and threw it away. That experience changed the way i looked at things and even now i go out of my way to clean up whenever i go hiking or camping!

I’m glad you understood that instinctively. Having grown up during the national anti littering campaign I just assumed that was part of everyone’s upbringing now, but if the understanding comes from within that is even better.

Imagine spending time in that stunning beautiful place carving that visage on the rock. Solitude, art. Wonderful. Thx for the video.

As an Artist myself stuck in a wheelchair the past few years, I love watching your hikes and garner some inspiration for new paintings. Thank you for all the inspiration your hikes bless me with, but this video..., WOW! LOVE that sculpture you found in the middle of all that natural beauty. Nice to see your wife out there enjoying your adventures with you. God bless the two of you.

My husband and I loved getting to see Evelyn. Her personality shined through. We can tell shes a real character. Please have her on more adventures. As for this hike we both think it's your best one yet. It was so beautiful with the red earth, green trees and stream. The sculpture was really interesting.

Sure, having someone to share the day with is excellent. As an old man, I vote bring your wife along. If you were a couple that fought all the time, leave her at home, but that is not the case. Take her with you. Build memories!
