One simple change and we have had a change of luck finding morels mushrooms this year. We try cooking them in butter and olive oil to see what method is our favorite.

About Life In Farmland: Our family strives to be as self-sufficient as we can be. We grow a lot of food in the garden, raise or hunt for our meat, cut and use firewood to heat our house in the cold Minnesota winters. We want to know where our food comes from, what goes into it. We strive to live a slower and sustainable lifestyle with family being our first priority. On this channel, you will find a lot of how-tos, shared experiences, recipes, and videos of things we are trying and learning more about.

I like to clean them with a soft brush. If you want to collect spores, place them in a paper bag until they dry and the inside of the bag will contain the dust-like spores. You can then use the dried mushrooms to add to other mushrooms to hugely enhance the flavour of any dish.

when hunting morels the first thing a good hunter needs is a mushroom stick to put in the ground when you find the first one and then look for it's(the mushroom) friends; every morel will have a buddy!

As wet as it has been everywhere, it seems like you should have found quite a few. My wife says saltwater is the best to help take care of bugs. Butter, flour, salt and pepper.

You can go online find a recipe and grow your own morel mushrooms. Either use some of the mushrooms you find or buy them online. Just another tool to help in self sufficiency. Awesome videos.

My country boy Daddy used to call it "gettin' your eye in". Once you learn to see the mushrooms... suddenly they are all over the place.

Great job on the trellis’. They looked great Eric. They say when harvesting morels to just cut them just above the base and carrying them in the woods in a fishnet type bag similar to what onions come in so you spread the spores for the following years growth. While there’s many ways to cook them sliced and cooked like you would cook fish are very tasty. Thanks for sharing and ATB Mike

in Kentucky we roll them in cornmeal and fry in lard. Our signal to go hunt is when the tulips start dropping their petals.

I don't know if there are different kinds of Morrells or not. It seems like everyone east of the Rockies looks for morrels near the base of trees, but out here in Washington state, Burned over areas are the best places to look for morrels.

Great video as always. This was our third year searching for morels, but the first two years we had no clue when to search or where to look, and found none. This year we found one along side our driveway, and then the search was full-on. We ended up finding 47 black (snakehead) morels over the following two weeks, most along our remote dirt road. We were so stoked. We cooked most of them in butter just like you did and loved 'em! Can't wait to hunt again next year. I might try drying and storing some next year if we have as good a bounty.

Make sure you really pat the morels really dry before adding to the pan .< stops the spitting of oil > See how the butter pan turned brown quickly , well thats the butter solids starting to burn , basically the butter brakes down and losses its frying ability . < use that ability to your advantage its a timing thing > Start them in hot veg oil , turn them ONCE then add the butter . If the butter starts to brown and they are not cooked add a little more butter and turn don heat . Right before you think they are done add , some supper finally chopped onion dice , then a small amount of garlic , possibly flat leaf parsley if you have some , finish with a squirt of lemon . You are very luck having morels , they can get a little gritty and get maggots , that is the main reason for soaking lightly as it drops the grit .

I think you might have scored them a bit...the way I've done ours is to cut away the stem and slice it into little "rounds" (i.e. slicing perpendicular to the length of the stem) and then I cut the top in half just like you did but then slice those halves down the length into strips. It cooks more completely quicker. I use olive oil but that's personal preference. ENjoy!

Flour them and deep fry. Those are yellow morels. Grays come up before the yellows. You shouldve been looking a week earlier. Not much better eating than morels!

I hunted some down a couple year's ago...they're alright in my book but not great enough to anticipate their appearance with gusto; kinda limp and chewy.
