It's that time of year - bulb ordering time. And since we've decided to share our garden journey with you... I'm forcing you to join me as I make up my mind about what bulbs to order 😅
From tulips to hyacinth flowers, we've got a short list of must-haves for our newly created middle flowerbed.

I ordered lots of different Alliums as the display I had this year was lovely and I want to add to it.. Even my next door neighbour liked the big purple ones which I think were Christophii. The seed heads looked great after flowering. I've also ordered lots of tulips. One variety is called "Double Angelique" which is described as looking like an old fashioned rose and a peony. I get my bulbs from Brookside Nursery and am never disappointed. My difficulty is going to be holding off from planting as I gather that Tulips must go in around November time.@@perennial-garden

@@wendybartlett6717 Just looked up that tulip variety... gorgeous! I'm sure it'll look great in your space, too. And 100% agree with your neighbors! What we like about them is how good they look even when they go to seed. We had some milleniums this year... smaller alliums near the edge of the border... we really liked them.

Love your choices! The Avignon is beautiful. I usually buy forced tulips because they’re so difficult to grow here. Our crocus sprout in late January or early February. It seems they handle our clay soil better. I can’t wait to see the tulips next year!

Isn’t it?! I think that mango color is really going to pop. And I wish we had crocus already that early - snowdrops, sure 😅 but nature can keep those. 😂

Loved this. Your growing season resembles mine in my part of Canada. I have the botanical tulips in my garden, I'd say 7 years now, and they are fantastic. They come back faithfully, which can't be said for all tulips. What about daffodils? You have inspired me to add more bulbs this year. Maybe that fabulous red hyacinth because I also have new flower beds that need early spring colour. That one is a wow!!!! You and Lars have inspired me a lot this year. Thank you. My experience with the short nights in Iceland was a disaster, came home exhausted. A couple years later I thought I was prepared for a trip to Scandinavia... I was wrong 😂😂😂

Oooooo. Good to know about the botanical tulips! I’ll hope for similar success. And those short nights STILL get me (Allen). And just when you kinda get used to them, it turns… and the endless darkness rolls in 😂.

Love your choices. I ordered mine- (Monet's tulip mix) pinks/purples/whites. Bella Blush tulip & even getting the Queen of Night tulip(black) But getting different alliums that I don't have so they will consistently grow with no gaps. One is 2 months with blooming constantly Love Serendipity. Your garden would look amazing with alliums in different areas

I love Tulips. I have to put mine in the fridge for weeks as it is so warm here but it seems to work well. How many bulbs do you order per colour ? Like 25 ? or less or more ? Will you keep adding tulips every year ..I heard some re bloom and some do not. I treat mine like annuals and grow them in pots. My special yearly garden treat 😍

What a wonderful treat you get each year! :) We've ordered around from 7-25 of each. Nothing crazy ;) And that way we can order more next year, too... it's a treat for us, too. And you're right... some have to be treated like annuals. But fortunately for us, most come back year after year. (And sorry it took so long to reply... somehow your comment didn't show up until now!)
