Our 4 children raised chickens and turkeys for 4-H years ago. The first year we did it, we didn't get an appt to have them butchered until the last day that was available. One thing we learned was to place things in their daytime area to climb on, to strengthen their legs. We were told that turkeys can get too big, and end up breaking their legs, because they got so heavy. Having things to climb on really helps strengthen their legs. We had 3 chickens that ended up being the size of turkeys, dressed out they weighed 20+ pounds!! The turkeys, dressed out, weighed appx 36-38 pounds!! I had to cut the turkeys in half to cook them, because of their size!

My mother asked my sister to raise a turkey for Thanksgiving, so for several years she did. One in particular was so big it barely fit in the oven. My parents got a new stove oven, and the next years was even bigger. Thanksgiving was the holiday we had relatives over, so over 30 at times. Very good memories

@@tireddad6541 we have great memories, and the photos of our young son, holding a frozen turkey, that I wanted to show my grandmother, who had been visiting. She raised my dad and his siblings, on a farm, and always raised chickens, but she said she never raised one that big!

May the LORD bless all your animals and may they be prolific. ❤ Sarah, I have for years admired your beautiful silver streaks in your hair. I know you look so elegant when your hair is "fluffed" whether loose or updo. I know, our looks are not what God looks at, but you are so lovely. God bless you all!

One of my favorite channels. You guys are awesome. As much excitement as the ducks in the morning huh, In the next life bud, In the next life. Amen. As well as no more killing, I hate to see any animal killed even if it is for food. I wouldn't make a very good Homesteader. I can't even kill a rat, I bought a live trap and take them up to the church and let them go so they can become a church mouse. That's great Watson gets to make some T-bones and Porterhouse for the future. God bless to you and yours, Amen.

Turkeys are funny! The day before Thanksgiving 2023, I got a msg from a friend. She said her daughter had a friend of a friend who knew a lady that was giving away a couple turkeys. I asked if they were still frozen. Well, it WAS Thanksgiving!! 🙃 I went and got the two turkeys, LIVE, and named them Tom and Jerry. Now, theyre on my farm. They follow me around like the dogs, and 'talk' to me the whole time. I even learned to speak Turklish!! 🥰🥰 I love watching YOUR animals as much as I do MINE!! I have 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 turkeys, 4 roos, and 13 hens. Plus, I have 4, 2-month old chicklets, that arent sexed yet, as I hatched them out, and I have 8, 1-month old chicklets that I hatched out, but are not sexed yet. They make me HAPPY!!!

We love watching your videos and all the various, interesting topics you cover on your homestead. But we especially watching all the fowl coming out of their coops in Waddlesville. We see how you two get so much enjoyment out of just watching them play and interact! I don’t recall any video of you putting them away in their coops at night. Are they as excited to go to bed at night, or is it a chore to corral them into their respective coops? Thanks for your continued healthy, interesting, family-friendly content!
