Guys - please, please, please don’t forget the safety gear. Construction sites demand protective gear for a reason - protection for your feet (toes and soles), your eyes, your lungs and your heads. And if you need to be found quickly should something bad happen, HI-VIS! We don’t want to be nannies - but, seriously, we want you to get through this build without major injuries - we really do! Even archaeologists put construction helmets on when the digger comes in! I only go onto construction sites to take photos - but I’m not allowed in without the full hat/hi-vis/boots combo. Better to look slightly ridiculous than hospitalised.

Scorpions, snakes, foxes, armadillos, raccoons, skunks, etc. It is critter city where they are. I would attach heavy-duty, galvanized hardware cloth around exterior joints and dim a trench at least a foot & half deep around perimeter to bury other side.

I've read some of the comments about not having rebar in the footings. I agree with them. I'm not a construction expert but my brother has a masonry background so I know a little by helping him out. Hopefully as you continue on you consult experts when it comes to electric and plumbing issues. A house is different from an RV.

Always tape glass before moving it like that. I use painters tape on both sides if you can access them which you could. Years ago I was working out in a GYM and some guy's were moving a large mirror and it broke while they were carrying it out and when it fell to the ground a long jagged protrusion of glass cut through one of the guys stomach on the way down and his guts were hanging out. He had a very very bad day.

@CalvinSehrt
@CalvinSehrt 4 ай бұрын
I could be wrong but I don’t think the hangers are attached. I think they just stuck them on each joist for later installation. Maybe we’ll see for sure in the next video though.
@Anberel
@Anberel 4 ай бұрын
Yes, the hanger is supposed to support the joist from the bottom. That what that little bit that cups the wood is for. I am not sure how you even make that mistake, but hopefully they figure it out before they do any framing. I also didn’t see if they were checking the wood for which direction it’s bowing. The bow goes up so that weight from the top straightens it out rather than causing it to sag further.

It doesn’t look like you used Pressure Treated Wood for the Subfloor! You should have! If you didn’t then use a Sealer of some sort, like Thomason Water Sealer, put a couple coats on it. The Joist hangers are upside down, but it will be Ok! When putting down the Plywood just make sure you glue it down as well as screw it. I’m taking it that you are not doing this with Permits! An inspector would have caught these things! If I remember correctly Texas is a little lacks on that. Also I would use a 3/4 inch plywood at least on the subfloor!

I double taked at the joist hangers. I was always confused when ive seen this because you would think common sense would tell you the board rests in the u to support it from the bottom. Not that big of a deal in their situation but still funny nevertheless.

OMG YES. Also, if they have natural gas lines anywhere on that property they should have called the utility company to come out and mark where all the pipes are.
