The roof turned out so great! I'm so dang impressed. We got a Little Giant Ladder at Costco and it's been awesome for us. Nice and sturdy. Also, Tom Silva from This Old House would have been very happy about you using a template. Nice!

@@tshirt4086 Still gets cold in Texas, I would have covered the bottom of the floor with 1/2 or 3/8 plywood and filled each bay with fiberglass. That floor is going to be so cold in winter with nothing.

I think that's why they are sticking with the square footage that they are, because there isn't a permit required for building a tiny home... At least that's what I've been told from other tiny home builder videos that I've watched. I could be wrong, it's happened before lol

You need blocking between every stud and a 45 degree brace in every wall or plywood sheeting to keep every stud wall square. You should be reinforcing every wall before installing rafters. Top plates should be connected to keep walls plumb

I don’t know building codes in the area where you are working. This is a tip for your future when you put up drywall. On the ceilings do not have 4 corners of sheetrock meet. Stagger your layout. In some areas, that is part of the code to pass inspection. However, regardless of codes, it's a good idea so that shifting doesn't crack your ceiling. Applause for taking it on.

If you're really worried about hurricanes, you might want to invest in actual hurricane ties/straps. They're little metal strips that go from one section of the framing to the next (i.e. floor tied to the walls that are then tied to the roof.

I saw you nailing the wall frame to the bottom plate, did you put the screws bolts you need to connect the wall to bottom plate ? Bolts are needed to connect the bottom hoard to the cement of be footer?

Fun vlog. Hope you have treated the wood for termites.. you don't want it eaten away in a few years! Those sloped beams should rest on something, not just be attached on the side of the vertical beams. They have to carry the roof. Ps. Maybe add Simpson hurricane clips to your roof beams.

Hello Allison and Eric. I am reading comments about building codes. I mentioned that here in UK you would need planning permission in last comments. I made sure I worked with friends who were tradesmen or I paid professionals on my house and I was just renovating.

So watching this one today I'm thinking how cool and competent the two of you are, as I often do. Then my next thought is, it's awesome, and fortunate, that you two have the confidence that you won't get hurt out in, what seems a bit like, the middle of nowhere in case one of you falls or gets hurt. It occured to me, thinking about falling off of one of the ladders, right before the part where Allison says, "tell them what happened..." Hope your ankle is fine again, Eric. Brings back memories of building my house on acreage in the woods. I learned my chain saw became my new friend when it came to the ridge beam 28 feet off the ground. Good luck, it will all be worth it.

@@kate-kate I live in the UK so not very extreme temps, but I still used a Multi Foil Insulation for an outdoor shed, R value 0.910 m².K/W - then boarded the whole thing. Keeps the internal temperature extremely consistent all year round.

No, most jurisdictions have adopted a recent version of the building code, which has provisions for tiny houses nowadays.
