Children of Paradise is from the 1940's and part of it was shot during the Nazi occupation of France. The story of how the movie was made is just as fascinating as the movie itself.

Glad you got the Three Colors Trilogy! I already loved Kieslowski's Double Life of Veronique before going in, but Three Colors cemented him for me as one of the greatest filmmakers in Cinema. Out of the trilogy, Blue is gut-wrenching and starkly gorgeous, but the vibrant capstone Red remains my favorite of the saga.

Hey, at least it went into the Maybe's 😂 Allright, The Human Condition is a Trilogy of Three Films so you can watch it one by one instead of 9 hours as a whole. Each film has an average Letterboxd score of 4.4 ! The next haul is coming… Oh, and if you want to get into some of director Kobayashi’s other work, I strongly recommend Hara-Kiri. It also has the same lead actor in Tatsuja Nakadai. It has a Letterboxd score of 4.6 ( Top 20 Highest Rated ).

The Human Condition Trilogy is easily one of the best trilogies out there that nobody ever talks about!!! Seriously it is a must watch. Also nice haul as usual. I've recently picked up Code Unknown and Love & Basketball on Amazon. I seriously wish Criterion would put more animated films in the collection like Angel's Egg, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, The Wolf House, and Isle of Dogs. Granted I already own all these films in my collection but a Criterion update would be neat.

The Human Condition is 100% An Absolute Must Buy. It is a World War II Epic and is a masterpiece Yes, it is a 10 hour long film, but it is broken into three separate parts. With each film essentially acting as Acts 1,2,3 for the overarching story that is The Human Condition. It is without a doubt one of the best films in the entirety of the Criterion Collection. Do not skip out on this epic. You would not regret blind buying it. But in case if you wanted to know, it's from the same director (Masaki Kobayashi) responsible for Harakiri, Kwaidan, and several other films in the collection in some form or another.

Fassbinder was incredibly prolific. He directed a ton of movies and TV shows even though he died in his 30s. Ali Fear Eats the Soul is probably my favorite of his. Bitter Tears of Petra Kant is close though. The BRD trilogy is good as is Fox. He made a 15 or so hour TV series called Berlin Alexanderplatz that is also great.

"Children of Paradise" ("Les Enfants du Paradis") was actually released in 1945, and was filmed in France during the Nazi occupation. One of the actors who plays an informer was ACTUALLY a Nazi informer and had to be re-cast. It was also rumored that star Arletty had an affair with a high-ranking Nazi.
