This goat farming makes me very comfortable to watch and learn a lot. She is very efficient , and know how to make us tentative while she is busy milking. I like her idea of goat keeping not to move around while milking and let the girl eat minerals. Kudo !!! ( Bonus- she has great helpers including her hubby and kids. )

You have so many adorable pets and such a beautiful lifestyle. It takes quite a lot of maturity to appreciate such lifestyle. I know about some immature idiots who look down upon truckers , but , shamelessly go to the groceries and feed their families and don't think deep enough on how the stores get their stock. i am planning on getting about 10 acres land in Texas and grow some grains( millets ) , some vegetables, few chickens for eggs and two goats for milk. for personal consumption. Thank you so much for making this video.

We will close on our 10.75 acres in a few days! We purchased the three resident goats, one buck named Abraham ( the father of many generations 😁) , Ms Blue and Ms Brown, who are both with kid 😳🎉 I do believe I’ve found the right place to learn....and quickly. P.S. we love Young Living. Can’t wait to hear how you use with your lucky goats.

I am in the Philippines . I did get two small goats and I want more . We have 4,000 square meters of coconut trees for them to feed under. I want to expand the purpose of the goats. Thanks for the video. I am impressed that you can milk for an hour straight every day! However, I can tell you from experience, that your wrists, elbows and even your shoulders will not put up with it forever. The goat milking machines are pretty reasonable on Amazon, probably less than the cost of one visit to the orthopedic. You may want to consider this as an option.

Thank you for showing the real deal. With my physical limitations, I was very interested to see the entire process, to see if I could take it on, or if I need to put it out of my head. Judging by your video, I think I can hack it, and that makes me so happy! There's only two of us here, with 3 kids on the weekends and school breaks, so I think we'll only need a pair of Nigerian dwarves. Chick a Woof Ranch what a cute name it makes me smile 😊 I would adore living on a ranch even if its hard work and sometimes very stressful it just seems so nafural bringjng people back close to the land and bringing people awareness that food just doesn't apppear magically at their local grocery stores . I also am an avocate that its especially important to educate young children about where their food comes from and how much blood sweat and tears goes into raising and growing the food that ends up in their cupboards and fridges . Cheers 😊

Hey guys! I am a mom a grandma and a nurse. They're are 2 tricks I have learned that work like magic. Let me share them with you. 1. For stings... Put bleach on it. If it's a bee Sting, scrape out the stinger with a credit card or drivers license, then put bleach on it. The bleach doesn't have to stay on long. Maybe 20 seconds. Once the Sting has stopped rinse it off. Works like magic. I promise. We have used this for about 35 years. 2. For head bumps If your child falls and hits their head or face, grab a pat or piece of butter and rub it on. The kid won't fight it like they do ice. Ice hurts, its too cold. Rub it in for 30 to 60 seconds. It makes a huge difference. No bruising or tiny bruises when their eyes should be black. This works miracles too. Please share and please try ......

We got up to milking 20 twice a day with 2 people milking. Ee liked to filter each goat into the filter on the storage vessel in the barn so any contaminants were removed as soon as possible. Eventually we were able to get a stainless milk can that could be kept in running cold water so the milk was also cooled as quickly as possible. Our goal was to to produce grade A raw milk. The indication of our success was that the DHIA tester that would weigh and test the milk for butterfat would only drink the milk from three of the herds he tested and ours was one of them and we were the only goat herd. H bought a gallon of milk to take home with him each time.

I would be interested to get your opinion. Thanks for stopping by!!!

Things like vaseline and chapstick will suck the oils out of your skin and make it dryer. Has to do with solubility parameters, i.e. like dissolves like. Udder balm works great on human skin. I'd stick with the udder balm.

Great video, my only question is do you strip the teats out before going into the bucket? I used to milk Saanens and used a strip cup each time.. always had good milk, goats are amazing and the milk is delicious for those who have not tried
@ChickaWoofRanch
@ChickaWoofRanch 2 жыл бұрын
We used to use a strip cup and would give it to the barn cats after milking was done but the cup turned into a big mess and now we just give the cats a portion of the “good” milk. So we usually just shoot the first couple of squirts on the barn floor now. It’s just easier. Good question.

@ChickaWoofRanch

It did not take long for the goats to accept the dogs. The dogs a very submissive to the goats so they do not see them as a threat. Once in a while the dogs will jump up and bark at something they hear and that will startle the goat in the milk stand but other than that... no problems. Great question!

Goat meat is yummy if sales slow... as far as udder health we recommend soap and water which is nice but in our area, if milking in winter, can cause the nipples to freeze (can we say ‘nipple’ in this public forum😜! But we wipe with Dawn soap in water then dry then milk but ALWAYS finish with ‘Bag Balm or Udder Cream daily to keep from dry cracking, cold exposure to dry skin. (And i typed all that before you mentioned the Utter Balm! We just like the antiseptic qualities of Bag Balm)

Chick-a-Woof Ranch >I know it’s nice to use ‘natural’ products but coconut oil is non-sustainably farmed. Farming the oil palms strips tens of thousands of acres of lush jungle and the trees don’t produce for 3-5 years and require burning off every 25-30 years causing chocking pollution and greenhouse gases. It is extended through corrupt government annexing of private farmers’ property and then sold to giant corporations. The final point is that, like canola oil, peanut oil and even lard and at one time cigarettes it is currently being promoted as ‘healthy’ and ‘organic’. I’ve been to Indonesia and seen the biggest farms and heard the farmers who have been displaced and left with nothing. I know it works for many things but there are moral issues as well.

I never use a soap as harsh as dawn or with chemicals it contains on my goats teats or udder and where our food is made or if kids have to nurse and get it in their mouths! I use a few drops of a VERY milk biodegradable unscented soap in half litre (just over 1/2 quart) or water, a few drops of shaklee basic H, (different name for it now I think). Then I add a small squirt of my homemade yarrow tincture or I steep the yarrow in apple cider vinegar now which keeps the teats and udder healthy and is naturally antibacterial and antiviral and organisms can not get resistant to plants like they can to commercial chemicals. Even with that I still WIPE OR RINSE THE SOAPY LAYER OFF with plain clean warm/hot water. Even in the winter I take hot water in a thermos to use or have a kettle I can use to heat water. The skin of my does has been amazing ever since I added the yarrow extraction. The previous year the does got some staph pimples. Since the yarrow not one goat has had even one, and the skin is soft and healthy.

Hi just found your channel and subscribed! We are getting 2 pet goats and several hens... I have 2 questions really, firstly will the hens and the goats be OK mixing together when out in our paddock and secondly how often do you feed your goats? Ours will have grass and straw/hay to munch on but how often should they get goat food during the day? Many thanks.... Off to watch more of your videos. Great seeing a woman run the homestead. A woman can achieve anything as long as she believes she can. X

Yes, absolutely the goats and chickens can hang out together. We have one hen that has moved out of the coop and into the goat shelter by choice. LOL Just keep in mind that it's okay for chickens to clean up feed from the goats, but not the other way around. If your goats are getting plenty of roughage and are not "in milk" then graining them once a day is just fine. If they are milkers then twice a day to supplement the calories to support their milk supply. I recommend goat specific grain, not all stock feed to make sure they're getting the nutrients they need. A video to watch is about a couple of supplements to give to your goats to keep them healthy and prevent a worm overload. Titled: Dairy Goat Vitamin & Mineral Supplement and Copper Bolus for Goats. Thank you for watching.

Loved your video. I made a long comment and it disappeared. Did you get it? I'll repeat it and am so sorry if it's a duplicate. First I love your video. Can't wait to view others. You are pleasant and educational and the time you spent making the video is really appreciated. My question is about my 7 yr old Nubian. I've never bred her. She is in season/cycling now and this cycle seems shorter than 21 days. But it's louder too. Normal? Other causes? Maybe it's just cause I'm noticing it more because I'm home more (just retired) or maybe I'm just worrying about more stuff now that I'm home. Your thoughts? Thanks! Look forward to your answers.
@ChickaWoofRanch
@ChickaWoofRanch 7 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't be anything to be concerned about. Sometimes they are louder from one month to the next. I have noticed that from my own goats. Also they can be thrown into heat earlier by the presence of a buck. That may not be the case for you, but do you have any other male animals around? Maybe a donkey or a ram? I don't know just a guess. Their cycles can vary though like humans and aren't always clock work. I will say this is a first for us this year that most of ours have been on schedule, however there's always that one that I have trouble with figuring out her cycle. As far as the retirement aspect, yes you're right, being home more and noticing. Most of my does start their cycle in the early mornining and last for about 48 hours. I even have one that goes into heat in the wee hours of the morning and then sometimes by afternoon she's not interested anymore. Go figure?! Thank you for the complements, we enjoy making the videos, most of the time..... hahaha..... there's always some glitches!

I got to you via dogs, big dogs. My last two were Newfoundlands. But goats, wow, very interesting and you do it well. Two questions; do you and your family use the milk as those who purchase cows milk at the store do? (I live in Rhode Island where there is so much pressure on farmers to sell their land for development that farms? vanish at an alarming rate, particularly dairy farms) So what happens if Daisy, for instance, is not first to be milked......ie the the milking/pecking order gets thrown for a loop? I admire what you do and Thx!
@ChickaWoofRanch
@ChickaWoofRanch 6 жыл бұрын
We use the milk just like you would use it from the store except it's so much better for you. If daisy is not the first to be milked there will be yelling and head butting and just a general ciaos. So sad to hear about the loss of all the farms. We to see the small family farms selling to big ag. The small farms are still around but they are getting tougher to find. Glad you found us! Thank you

So glad you found us! Our dogs bark at all visitors before they get through the gate. They are fine after we let the visitors in. I’m not sure what they would if we weren’t here. The Anatolian mix can be even more aggressive to strangers and farm threats ( that is a total generalization so please do your homework before you get one... they can be difficult but well worth the peace of mind when you are away)

Thanks so much for your reply. We finally built on some land we owned, about 20 acres and still need to get pastured in and whatnot before we get any animals. Thought about goats, sheep, chickens, etc. We've got about 8 more acres down the road and access to a few more. Not sure about beef cattle or not. Not too worried about cattle but not sure about leaving goats in a remote pasture without some type of security. The biggest threats around here are coyotes and the two-legged variety. Do you think a Great Pyrenees or mix would be okay left alone with a herd? We'd still check on them daily and water and feed so there'd still be care and daily contact with them but I didn't know if they are that trustworthy or independent enough to be able to handle protecting livestock without having their owner nearby. It wouldn't be permanent either. Just while livestock were on that particular pasture.
