I think Riccardo had the most underrated race this weekend (still terrible in qualifying). He had great pace and was constantly gaining on the cars in front, when in clean air he had similar pace to most of the top 10.

You guys need to keep yourselves up to date - Zhou did not have any upgrades. In fact, he reverted back to his old chassis which he was more comfortable with back in early May, so the car is effectively 'downgraded'. Just shows how undriveable the 'upgrades' made his car.

Well they are fans not specialized journalists, it's entertainment For accurate analysis I follow Juliane Cerasoli, brazilian journalist that is on every race since 2011 and is a pool of knowledge about F1, portuguese only but maybe there is subtitles

The bias against some drivers is warping some of these ratings. If Yuki and Danny had each others race Danny Ric would have received a 2 or a 3 for only beating Sargeant while Yuki probably receives at least a 7 and is praised for beating drivers in faster cars/ Likewise Magnussen gets a 5 from Matt for a nothing race with a jump start, but Stroll somehow gets a 4 for a nothing race, not getting a penalty and beating Magnussen in a car that is about equal on pace, or slightly slower.

Yeah bad call from them. Danny out drove Yuki and the car on all tyres. He had good speed while maintaining tyre deg. Literally nothing more he could have done. Yuki just went backwards all race. And yet they basically give them the same rating. Under the circumstances it was a very important performance for Danny. It's weird they can't separate that from the overall lack of pace from the car.

@@diangara3298 Yuki outqualified him and was in 15th at the start, but had floor problem and they turned his race in to a car test. RB said that he had a damaged floor mounting bracket.

@andriusbruzas9211 both cars were testing, neither were getting points. and yuki only outqualified from getting a tow. Daniel was the faster car in q1 and q2 and 2 out of 3 practice sessions. yuki definitely could've had better race if he didn't cook his tyres and speed in pitlane

Daniel did drive a 10/10 race. He made multiple overtakes on Sargeant, Bottas, Kmag and was the only driver who managed his tyres to a point they had NEGATIVE degradation on two of his three stints. Yuki meanwhile had very bad degradation on hards that he had to switch to 3 stopper. How is daniel only 5 when yuki got 4 for dropping out from penalty thats his fault and not managing his tyres? Not to mention Daniel was clearly the faster driver all weekend, including Q1 and Q2, and Yuki only outqualified because he got a tow from Checo.

I feel that for a lot of the backmarkers you guys don't actually understand what's happening or even following what they're doing in the races. If you're going to rate drivers you need to understand each one and how they performed not just look at where they ended up. Zhou had the old car and did terrifically well. Danny outperformed the car, Tsunoda couldn't hook up at all and Danny was overtaking and near the end lapping at very similar laptimes to the leaders in the low 1:19s. It was arguably the slowest if not the second slowest car on the grid. He did a very good job of making his way through the field. It was not a Mid performance a 5 is laughable. Alpine had a good car this weekend so you give them a 10/10. You don't seem to take into consideration if the car is bad and how well they've driven considering. Please do some more research.

Oscar in a fastest car: quali 10 (his own mistake), started 9, finished 7. Had a best strategy, his teammate is second, 2 sec from Max. Oscars grade - 6. Perez in a second fastest car: quali 8, started 11, finished 8. had a mediocre strategy. His grade - 3. I also like Oscar but that grade is too biased. It cannot be so much higher than Checo's.

What the finishing position doesn't tell you is that Perez finished 26 seconds behind Oscar. I agree that a 6 does still sound a bit high in comparison, more like a 5 maybe, but there is merit to Oscar being given a higher rating.

F1’s fanbase is now flooded with people who don’t understand the sport. They still see McLaren as midfield underdogs & Oscar as a rookie. Qualifying P10 and finishing P7 in the fastest car as a 2nd year driver is not good enough. Checo gets slaughtered for the same thing. Has to be 4 out of 10 for me

Carlos wasn't given a bad strategy. He cooked his softs behind a Hamilton with no DRS and then did a mediocre medium stint. His only option was hards and that wasn't the team doing a bad call, that was bad tyre management from him and it's not the first time doing this. He always cooks his tyres trying to overtake and then falls back 10+ seconds to his teammate.

this is because perez should be doing better with that car, hislast few results has been super poor, crashed on his own in Canada which he then drove dangerously to the pits. He was never gonna get a good score this weekend with that grid penal unless he was on the podium. Should be doing way with that car, it is embarrasing.

​@@martinsgriva5081 Difference is, Perez was the reason that he got knocked out in Q1 and DNF'd. Leclerc and Sainz actually drove the car to the best it could do, Leclerc was in a fight for points with an engine issue before Ferrari tried something different then retired the car. And Sainz was doing a fine enough job until his mistake, apart from that the Ferrari was just slow. You can't downgrade drivers for having a bad car.

Perez on the otherhand, was poor all weekend. He had a qualifying result that reflected his pace, not a singluar mistake that he made on one lap (like Piastri's did). Then was burning through his tyres so quickly he put in an extra pit stop, and even then didnt take fastest lap with an extra set of tyres to his name. Perez was just plain shit all weekend. Piastri just had one mistake which meant his race was ruined, similar to how Lando had one mistake which meant he lost the win

For everyone yelling about Russell's tire management, here's what actually happened. Tires were fine, Hamilton was about 0.05 - 0.1s faster on equal mediums, Russell lost \~4 seconds on the slow stop, and the team just chose to go to plan B with Russell, likely because of that to make up time. 40:30-41:30 Engineer: "Very happy with tire management at the moment" Russell: "Personally I feel I'm pushing a little bit too hard in high speed" Engineer: "We are happy, the numbers we're seeing, we are happy with what you're doing on the tires.... traction metrics look very good too" 43:55 Russell: "I'm still pushing hard in the high speed I feel... remind me target lap?" Engineer:" Currently target minus 5, we are happy with the pushing level in the high speed." 49:13 Engineer: "Target minus 5" 50:30 Engineer: "So George, this will be Plan B" Lando passed Hamilton seconds after the Plan B message. His tyres were therefore fine when he got the message to got Plan B, which apparently was go on hards earlier, so he was able to use up his tyres since he was going to pit anyway. Also notable there was never a message or discussion from the pit wall about considering putting Lewis in his DRS to keep Norris behind. Also no message to let Norris by while losing minimum time which you could argue he should have known but still the pit wall should be on top of these things. Merc strategy and race management dept need an overhaul.

I was wondering if maybe a full recap including a rating at the end of the season would be a better format for keeping themselves interested? I like watching these, simply to "check" how I would rate vs their ratings but I do agree, they seem to be kinda over it. And I cant blame them, what is there to say about half the drivers anyway? We all know they have basically no chance at winning in their cars unless magic happens or its chaos for some reason. So a recap at the end of the season would allow for a bit more "storytelling" and an analysis of how a driver/team evolved over the year.

The Piastri rating is generous. A 5 or lower would be better. Bottled q3. Wasn’t on Lando’s pace the whole weekend. Only finished P7 in the fastest car. This coming from a mcl fan. Not a great weekend for Oscar. I would go for same rating as Checo for me

Man I love the ratings videos but their bias when it comes to Daniel and Yuki is insane. Daniel dominated Yuki all weekend except for one lap in qualy where Yuki got a double tow, and ended way higher than him in the race. How you end up with a 5 for Daniel and a 4 for Yuki is beyond me

As a Lewis fan, you guys are completely wrong. Lewis was about to overtake russel before russel pit for new hards. He ate through his tyres and meant he was anyways gonna be overtaken(constantly pitting significantly before lewis), he would have also had to do 30 laps on the soft, which was maybe not viable. Lewis also mentioned the hard was never an option for him, so Lewis was never gone have the “bad” strategy, which means it wasn’t a luck thing, it was capability and knowledge. Lewis was able to make SMS work goerge couldn’t, or didn’t want to. Giving goerge a 9 is therefor completely wrong and apart from Lewis start(where he lost one spot which he got back again) he couldn’t have done better.

At the end Merc told Goerge he would race lewis at the End of the race what was obviously way wrong. Goerge lost all his advantage because he tryed to fight Norris which should have help them both for a potential p2. They literally pitted him right after that to undercut Norris potentially again.

You have slipped back into scoring the car performance rather than the driver. As Alonso said, all the cars finished in pace order - no reason at all to give Ocon more points than Ricciardo for example.

Ok maybe I’m just a Sargeant fan boy or I’m rooting for the only American on the grid but I don’t think it’s all his fault. That car is terrible and it looked like his strategy was also horrible. He is quick, and yea sure he makes a lot of mistakes but I think he’s getting shafted from the team

@P14tinumGaming Logan's car is also significantly less upgraded and heavier than Albon's. Albon got a new floor in Imola that greatly reduced the weight, Sargeant still hasn't got it. Albon got a new, better performing rear wing from Monaco onwards, and yet again, Logan hasn't got it yet. Most fans and pundits don't bother to go that much into the weeds to find this stuff out.

Sainz eventually settled back but should never have made that overtake, him not knowing his place in a team is why Redbull and Merc don’t want him. He’s been a number 2 driver for 4 years and still hasn’t accepted it (partially Ferrari’s fault for not having the backbone to enforce it)

Can’t agree with the Russell comments about how he would have beaten Hamilton with the different strategy. Hamilton was on the back of him before he pit and would have overtaken him next lap. Hamilton also made that strategy work by being able to make his mediums last.

georges tyres were fine as well, team even told him he was doing too much managing at times. they made the decision to split strategy before his battle with lando so he knew he could use up his tyres.

I see lots of debate here about if McLaren is the fastest car or still RB. My take (as a mcl fan) is that pace wise they seem quite similar but in terms of tire management the McLaren is superior. It also looks like McLaren uses lower tyre pressures than their competitors which is the reason their stints start relatively slow but when others struggle they can still push and have a big advantage there. Also Lando seems to better understand how to drive his car to save tires which is the reason Oscar has much worse Racepace. It's also way harder than we think to know which car is fastest because only in special occations the drivers push the limits of the cars pace (e.g. Max and Lando for the last laps of Imola) out of strategy reasons.

George a 9 out of 10? He burned up his mediums not knowing how to handle tyres and that's why he had to used the hards. So it's literally his fault he had to use the hards instead of softs.

That's not what happened. His engineer said that the tyres were fine but they wanted to go on the hards anyway. People just go to tyres with george but this week it wasn't an issue. Go back and listen to his radio or look at the data if you're not convinced.

I am mclarens fan but I also feel that people are being too lenient about the pairs. We got the marginally quickest car this week, and oscar only finished 7th due to his own mistake. No way he deserve a score higher than 5. If it were checo, people would have given him a 4. Lando drive descently, but he cost himself the win by his own calloff of a earlier first pit stop for the mediums. If it were max, people would have given him a 7.

i think you need to take the car performance more in to consideration when rating the drivers. When you are in an aston martin or some other car that doensn't score well, it's impossible to score a 8-10. Sometimes it's an amazing achievement for a bottas (or something) to finish 15th or something.

I’m a bit confused as to the Squarespace commercial. You see it all over the place, and I’m sure youtubers are glad of it. But I never felt the need for my own domain. Being dutch i often have hear about how good max is, but is feels good to finally hear people again saying max out performed the car like he did in 2020 and before. (i know you guys see talent when its deserved). But the dominant RB 19 let people believe that the redbull the was unbeatable. This was not the case, yes the RB 19 was the fastest car but you don’t see Max make mistakes when when he drives it! I am not saying Lando makes mistakes but he is not driving on the same level that Max is. For example if you check the Canada sector 1 times of Max compared to Lando you can see that Lando is faster but Max is driving every sector the same and tho the maximum. Max deserved driver of the day! I am not saying Lando had a bad race but max showed again how good he is!

Someone explain to me how Perez gets a 3 while Oscar gets a 6, when McLaren was likely to be the fastest, and Red Bull on par. IMO they should both be a 4 and I like both of them. Both were fighting the same cars, Perez made up 3 places while Oscar made up 2. And Perez DID outqualify piastri, which again was the fastest car. Just seems very inconsistent unless someone explain to me what causes the difference.

How is anyone giving a higher score to hamilton than russell, or even the same score? Yes he finished in front but not from his own skill. I agree that he had a good race, even a great race, but definitely not better than george. In terms of race pace they were basically dead even but george had that amazing start and did a better job defending from norris. He was just unlucky to have a crap pitstop and be put on the worse of the split strategies which is obviously from no fault of his own.
